Millicant's Horus Heresy (Blood in the Void - 28Jun)

Oh for sure! We have been cooking up home brew ways to use the hangar in games. So far it has just been cosmetic, which is awesome enough frankly, but we want to also add to the specific boarding missions.

Blood in the Void is a great system and we're going to try the various missions there with some extra flair. The one where you actually attack the outer hull? Yeah we're going to play on the outside and top of the wall. For the initial boarding we want to use my Battlefleet Gothic table on the other end (stars and whatnot) so various aircraft can battle their way to the ships outer hull, from Thunderbolt to Caestus Assault Ram, all while the ship's defenses fire back. Once they arrive, my friend suggested that based on how well the void battle goes for the attacker might determine how many tiles into the hulk they can deploy. I dunno, there's so many choices! I'm very, very excited. :)

Just a quick update from the past few March of the Legions entries that I've submitted. As a hold-over until I can showcase some more Zone Mortalis and new Imperial Fists stuff!

And the Word Bearer, with a sneak peak at my latest completion...

Well, I'm starting my Imperial Fists, based on the Battle of Phall.

I chose a metallic yellow because of this excellent thread by Corai. I've modified it to suit my needs, but he was the inspiration.

And here is my first Breacher with this scheme. I haven't finalized it yet, as the decals still need to go on the pauldrons and I'm still toying with either metal or gold for the trim around the shield. The black is a little "blah" to me. I'm also not finished with the varnish, as it will be more satin than gloss when complete. I apologize for the crappy photo - this is really just to get it out there and see what people think before I continue to the rest.

Comments/suggestions always welcome.

Good I like that your thinking along the lines of no crosses, my issue is the templar brethren are one facet of the fists why is everything over zealous.

I like where your heading and im hoping that we get some more power fist goodness

Definitely fits the golden yellow color told about in the books :) it's a good start!

Thanks!

I had to get some new clear coats but I should be able to finish off the first two soon. I'm still debating between black, metal, or gold for the edge of the shield (currently black). I ordered a few more colors of Vallejo Liquid Gold so I'll probably try it out when those get here.

I have wanted to build and paint one of these for a long time. The Thunderbolt is probably my favorite Forgeworld model, only matched by the Warhound Titan (stay tuned....). I decided to go for a Solar Auxilia paint scheme since it is cool. I made a mask for the Solar Auxilia Pilot badge - I think it turned out okay! Let me know what you think!

The Thunderbolt will be used for games occasionally, but will more often be a centerpiece of terrain for my Zone Mortalis docking bay.

Looks damn cool!

While I agree with you on Titans being Baller models, my fav FW plane has to be the Marauder Destroyer/Bomber Super-Heavy.

Also, not sure if you mentioned it but, hows the Hangar Bay board coming along?

Thanks! It's... coming. I've been distracted by the Thunderbolt and my first Imperial Fists, along with the new 32mm Zone Mortalis bases of which I'll be making molds later this week...

Love that model, and you did it great justice! Super clean lines. I think it could be a tad more weathered, but that really comes down to personal choice smile.png

Thanks man! There is actually a good bit of weathering on this thing, but it's rather subtle. Looking at the pics now, I'm realizing that you really can't see it at all! I'll have to get some close-ups so you can see. Personally I don't like aircraft to be overly weathered - it's unrealistic! Either way - thanks for the comments. thumbsup.gif

Looking really good especially with the fighter on the deck.

The weathering is subtle on the thunderbolt and just right for a ship based fighter. In my head the fighters which are based on the ground will have much more weathering on them than the ones used in the void.

Thanks man! I totally agree, this is intended to be a void-based fighter out of my launch bay. Like I said, I'll put up a few more close-ups to display the weathering a little better.

I also received a package today... Alexis Polux and an Arvus Lighter! I plan to use a very similar scheme for the lighter, though likely with more weathering and damage since it is a crusty transport and not a sexy fighter.

I've completed my first batch of Imperial Fists!

To begin with, I've built a small force for Zone Mortalis. It includes Alexis Polux, a Breacher Siege squad including a Sergeant with Artificer Armour and a Thunder Hammer, and a Contemptor Dreadnought with Kheres Assault Cannon and Heavy Flamer. Next plan to add a squad of Cataphractii Terminators and another Breacher Siege squad with MkIII armour and the large square shields instead of the ones below. Variety is the spice of life...

I went for a metallic yellow, based originally on Corai's excellent scheme. Well worth a look - he's done a fantastic job. I'll add a photo of Polux's base soon - it turned out pretty well.

Small nitpick: the Golden Wings on the Contemptors Chest and the Lateral Slats on the Breacher shields dont really stick out all that much from the Yellow. maybe give them a light purple wash to get some contrast in there?

Everything else looks amazeballs.

Thanks man! So full disclosure - I may have forgotten to do the gold on the Contemptor's chest! Whoops, I'll do that tonight. Thanks for pointing it out!

For the rest, it stands out a little better in person. I did that specifically to emulate the gold seen in HH3: Extermination, like THIS.

Millicant as always living your dedication to this hobby, great stuff and hope we get more from your ZM and Fists.

Btw great to here you get a mention on the eye of horus podcast

Haha thanks man! Yeah my progress is slow, partly because I'm not a fast painter and partly because I have to adult most days. *sigh* I often look longingly at my "to-paint" pile and think to myself "I don't wanna adult today!"

Yeah that was cool to be on the podcast - figured I would write-in since they did a thing on Zone Mortalis. smile.png

Those Imperial Fists are lovley. Going back I really like the Thunderbolt. The Spartan style paint job looks really good on it.

Thanks! I need to get a few more close-up shots so show off the weathering. I appreciate the kind words - it's a gorgeous model. One of my favorite, right behind the Warhound Titan I think... which I really need to keep working on.

Excellent! They look noticeably different but still are easily identifiable as fists.

I remember them being described as "clad in gold" rather than yellow once in I believe "shadows of treachery" (its obviously just a Romanticists description of yellow) and your colour does that justice!
