Actually, it's hollow.

What's the average wall thickness?

About 5-10 mil. It's built around a newspaper armature about the size of my head. Guestimated. Probably won't be able to fit it over my head though. ^^;

A few weeks ago, I did make a crashed aquila, but I think it broke during firing or something since I haven't seen it since I put it to cook. ^^;

You say that, but it's taken me what, three weeks to finish? Probably about twelve hours work time, all told. Still have to get it fired and glaze it, Need to figure out how to do Blood Red using glazes... ^^;

I hope it doesn't blow up in the kiln. When I was younger, my mom was all into ceramics and for my 10th birthday, she got me this huge ceramic dragon coiled around a castle tower. I spent a week cleaning it up, rebuilding some of the scales where the mold lines were, etc, and then very carefully took it back to the shop to get fired. No one told me it wasn't properly vented and blew up in the kiln.

Quite the way to go out, though.

  • 2 weeks later...

Unforseen setbacks in that I need to do test tiles before I can glaze it - I just don't have a dark enough red - but to prove it survived the firing process and our lack of ability to get to the studio for a week and a half...
