Provocation
Posted the basic conversion here a wee while ago and was waiting for some inspiration to finish it off. Enter the Stormfang and here come the wolves! http://i1118.photobucket.com/albums/k614/Provocation88/IMG_5426.jpg http://i1118.photobucket.com/albums/k614/Provocation88/IMG_5430.jpg http://i1118.photobucket.com/albums/k614/Provocation88/IMG_5434.jpg http://i1118.photobucket.com/albums/k614/Provocation88/IMG_5440.jpg http://i1118.photobucket.com/albums/k614/Provocation88/IMG_5448.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294693-stormfang-gunship-conversion/ Share on other sites

Quixus
Wow that looks better than either of the models whose bits you used. Minor nitpick, the ailerons and wings are mounted backwards, but mounting them correctly would probably look weird. Haakon_Stormbrow
he should just sand the wings so the flaps can't be seen then cut the wings with a saw from the other side making to insertions, then score the top and bottom using a ruler so the flaps are now on the correct side. i love the wings on the way you did it, GW has no clue about aerodynamics. Leif Bearclaw
Any chance you could give us a step by step of how you did it? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294693-stormfang-gunship-conversion/#findComment-3767555 Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
Interesting. I like it. However, there's 2 problems I see: a.) the costs to create this are pretty darn high, especially if you are going for multiples b.) it can not be used in official tourneys because of great modelling advantage given the new gun placement Other than that, very well done ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294693-stormfang-gunship-conversion/#findComment-3767591 Share on other sites
Leif Bearclaw
How is the gun being higher up give a gameplay advantage? If anything it would limit line of fire as you only get 45 degree depression. If anything it would limit line of fire as you only get 45 degree depression. The las cannons have a much better field of view. The Helfrost cannon is higher, thus can draw better line of sight. The MM up front should be sponsons. Totally fine in friendly games, relax ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294693-stormfang-gunship-conversion/#findComment-3767666 Share on other sites
Provocation
This conversion was definitely more for the 'rule of cool'. After doing a stormtalon conversion I wanted another one and the cool box set came out with a stormraven and 2 talons, which meant I had a 'spare' talon to muck around with. Which then lead to this stormfang conversion. It's a slippery slope . With my conversions it tends to be frantic clipping and chopping when I get a light bulb moment so I don't have pics with a step by step. But I'll try and explain it as best I can and let me know if I can add any pics from the finished one if it helps, here goes: The basic rectangular fuselage stays the same. The major bit of the conversion was bringing the wings that usually fit on the back forward. This required some serious glueing and pinning (two on each wing) to stabalize them. I also wedged one of the directional thrusters from the stormtalon into the underside V of the wing to give it another contact point to pin/ glue it to, but you could use any bit that can fit in the space. Just up from the wing add the stormtalon engines where the doors/ hurricane bolters would usually go. Add the stormtalon wings to the back engines. Instead of adding the tail section to the rear end of the stormraven, I've put it between the rear engines. I cut a tail piece and added the top of the tail (as spotted) back to front. The helfrost destructor was just taking the four or five pieces that make it up and scraping and cutting until it fitted. I also had to cut a piece here or there on the roof to make a snug fit. Hope this helps Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294693-stormfang-gunship-conversion/#findComment-3768123 Share on other sites
Leif Bearclaw
So three different flyer kits went into that? You're certainly mad, but can't argue with the results . Could you post a picture showing the back? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294693-stormfang-gunship-conversion/#findComment-3768192 Share on other sites
Provocation
Here's the pic from the back. I've left the area where the tail usually attaches open (it's an afterburner or something suitably insane that the Wolves would use to go faster), but it would be pretty straight forward to cover up. http://i1118.photobucket.com/albums/k614/Provocation88/IMG_5458.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294693-stormfang-gunship-conversion/#findComment-3768293 Share on other sites
Provocation
@Immersturm, admittedly the cost is definitely higher but the only kit that you are sacrificing is the stormtalon as you can still get a complete Stormwolf from what's left Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294693-stormfang-gunship-conversion/#findComment-3768742 Share on other sites
