Vazzy - thanks very much man :)

Marshal - seen and replied to, several times ;) Getting my hands on some Destroyers soon hopefully so will be giving your idea a go.

And a little update to show that I actually do paint on occasion and will have more than one painted model in this army....

You can tell they are Blood Angels, as they are red. BAse for the armour laid down, another 4 or 5 stages to go yet though. And the plan over the next week or so is to get a tester for the Jetbikes assembled. Fun times.

Looking really good, definitely upping the high level you set with the previous plog!

If you are going the Mk IV destroyer -> breacher some of the poses don't work well without some serious converting, they are facing the wrong way and the legs look odd with the shields. I ended up cutting them at the waist and mixing a few MkIII Boarder pieces in. You cant really use the destroyer arms either - all pointing to the sides.

Awesome Blood Angels! I love your red, how did you do it? The BA are my favourite legion for the Heresy, but the project was on hold, because I wanted to wait for their book to be released. But as it seems, it will be one of the last books in line, so I'm thinking of starting early. And up til now, i didn't think that the GW Blood Angels range would fit into the heresy, armour pattern wise, but your minis taught me different! :) So you think, fluff wise the GW bits are ok for a late heresy army, say around the fall of Terra? I'm not the most fluff fit person around :)

Keep up the great work and the cool stories!

Evening again people smile.png Small update tonight to show that I am actually painting stuff.

Marshal2Crusader - that was only the base coat of Mechrite red mate, the finished red is below...really need to get some better pics done during daylight I think.

Demon2027 - hopefully the finished red below looks nicer ;) That's kinda the rough idea, but I'm not planning to use the big tower shields, I think they're a bit too bulky for Mark IV armour and the elegant Angels.

Strongbow - thanks man, glad you're enjoying it so far.

Muggs - cheers fella, hopefully I can keep things up to this level.... I'm not too worried about having my Breachers in the classic 'brace' pose, so the more open Destroyers shouldn't be too much of an issue. Thanks for the heads up on the waist cutting though, definitely something I will look at.

Ceadus - cheers buddy, glad to hear you like them. The Blood Angel plastic bits work pretty well - the Angels are supposed to be artisans and artists, so having special shoulder pads or a greave or chestplate that isn't 'HH canon' isn't too much of an issue, for me at least. The trick is to use the pieces sparingly and stay away from the obvious mark VII heads and arms. And to be honest, anyone who is going to give you crap about soem of your Heresy era Angels having a mark VII arm or backpack probably isn't someone you want to be playing. The red is pretty simple:

Basecoat of Charadon Granite

Basecoat of Mechrite Red

Basecoat of Blood Red

Highlight with about a 60/30 mix of Blood Red and Tausept Ochre

Quick Edge highlight with Tausept Ochre

Wash with 75/25 mix of Baal Red and Agrax Earthshade

Wash with very thin Asurmen Blue

So, the painting. Fire-team Secundus have been undercoated and the power armour pretty much finished aside from detailing. Painting this much red is strange, my colour palette usually runs to colder, bleaker colours but I'm very happy with how my own method of painting red is turning out. I've done pics with and without flash - the ones without flash give a better idea of how the red looks in real life, while the flash pics are useful to show you how loose and 'Blanchey' I am with the highlights. As they are Tactical Astartes, I'm debating keeping them a little simpler than the Veterans like Afio, so the amount of gold on them will probably be fairly minimal - I might even swap it out for a dull steel instead. Anyways, pics:

I'll get some better pics tomorrow during the day to show off the red properly. I'm waiting on some bits to finish off a few other Astartes, as well as tossing around a few ideas to make some Breachers in mark IV armour - cue another test model soon I think. Really should do a tester for the Jetbikes as well....

That's it for now folks,

Jack

Daylight pictures. Woot.

Very happy with how the red has turned out. Will be cracking on with the rest of the painting over the next few days, as well as assembling a few more random testers for the Assault, Jetbike and hopefully Breacher squads.

Will try and get some more storyline stuff and pics up tonight if everyone is amenable to seeing more?

regards,

Jack

Aaaand goodbye, post ETL painting burnout.

I saw this thread, and now have the very strong urge to get paintin' again. laugh.png

There's some seriously cool stuff in this thread, both story and model-wise.

Somehow I didn't catch on that those models were Palatine Blades at all until it was pointed out - they're a very natural fit for the sons of Sanguinius! happy.png

Evening chaps, thanks for your continued support.

Demon2027 - more story and pics inbound. And I like the red as well, been a while since I painted something that vibrant on that large a scale.

Darth Potato - hah I think 'something epic' might be a slight overstatement but I will try to live up to it msn-wink.gif More models coming up as well.

Marshal2Crusader - Amenablest? Amenatron?

Mikhail - damn, must have done something right with the Three Hives then, thanks man.

The Chaplain - more of both coming up fella.

Ace Debonair - ha glad you got some inspiration mate. And thanks very much, glad to hear you like how my sons of the Ninth look. The Palatines are gorgeous models, much more flexible than they look and perfect for Blood Angels.

Right, lets get some more of the Ninth Legion shown off....

On Fury's Wings

"The Sons of the Ninth have always loved the heavens. In that, we are truly our Father's sons, yearning to escape the burning sands of Baal and take to the clean air above. It is from the skies that our Father's fury falls, the skies that deliver us to the heart of our enemy. We are rage and judgement and discipline incarnate, the Angels of Blood made inviolate by the Imperial Truth, and our blades fall so quickly.

Leopard-5 were our blades, our fury, the vengeance of Seraph made manifest. Where they walked, the Eaters fell."

More excellent fiction and equally excellent models.  I love the blend of plastic and FW parts you are using.  They go together perfectly to make very distinctive and unique looking Blood Angels.

You did an excellent job with The Three Hives Rebellion.  The presentation was innovative and interesting.  If I didn't have so many projects going already I would be making some Iron Talons myself.
