Forté
Hello. I've been thinking ove future projects and thanks to seeing some excellent metallic AL schemes here I'm thinking of making a tiny step into the HH, starting with a Legion Centurion that could lead a small starting force. Now, I like the idea of the Consuls but which would work as an Alpha Legion leader? I'll likely magnetise a few weapon options too but it'll be MkVI armour done with the current GW plastics. Cheers for looking :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295047-alpha-legion-centurion/ Share on other sites
Kol Saresk
Hmm, well technically anything could do. It would mostly depend on what is the primary theme of your army? Is it going to be air cav? Maybe a Moritat woul be a good choice. Is it going to focus on stealth, recon and black ops? Vigilator. So in a way, the question isn't "Which Centurion upgrade fits the Alpha Legion the best", its "which upgrade will compliment your army the best?" Hyaenidae
Kol pretty much nailed it. The Centurion needs to compliment how you imagine your force fighting, not the other way around. And welcome to the Heresy, brother. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295047-alpha-legion-centurion/#findComment-3774827 Share on other sites
Slips
As Kol said. Remember that the Alphas are probably THE most flexible legion out there. So get a theme and choose a Consul to complement it. Though if you were to go Stereotypical AL (not a bad thing - gives more direction) then a Vigilator and Seeker / Recon Squads would be the go to here. Forté
Kind of question wise. Only issue with the Moritat is it can't be the compulsory HQ choice (same with the saboteur). Though Vigilator is very characterful for an AL cell. Slips
You could also use a force led by a Primus Medicae. The idea behind them being a force sent out to gather genetic material of fallen Space Marines from other Legions for infiltration purposes. A Forge Lord sent out to gather scrap and data from destroyed enemy vehicles, etc. Things like that; Use your consul as the focus of your force or use them as a Complement to your force. Daemon2027
They also have their own special Consul, the Saboteur. I always liked the idea of a Librarian leading my Kill Teams. Forté
Well, that is an option too. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295047-alpha-legion-centurion/#findComment-3775484 Share on other sites
Fire Golem
I've heard the Saboteur isn't that great though, if that kinda thing is important to you. Forté
Well he can't be a compulsory so he's kind of off the list of options initially ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295047-alpha-legion-centurion/#findComment-3775541 Share on other sites
Fire Golem
No problems there then ;) but yeah as said before, any of the consuls fit with the AL. How do you envisage the rest of the force? Forté
Likely more thinking along the lines of the use of Cells with a small core frontal group with Tactical Squads and normal deployment units, and plenty of infiltrators (Seekers, Headhunters, and Recon squads). Fire Golem
I think Vigilator fits well with that, no? :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295047-alpha-legion-centurion/#findComment-3775585 Share on other sites

Baby steps A journey of a thousand miles starts with a small step ;) And I add my vote to the vigilator, seems to fit snugly with the ideas you're playing around with Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295047-alpha-legion-centurion/#findComment-3775594 Share on other sites
Forté
So then. Say I go with a Vigilator which comes with Camelioline and the Seeker Bolter. Is there other wargear suited to the role? And is the AL exclusive gear worth it (power knife & venom spheres)? Fire Golem
The power dagger (I have been told) is mainly there to get extra attacks from another specialist weapon (cos if you have two specialist weapons, you get an extra attack, right?) Forté
So not much use for a Vigilator then. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295047-alpha-legion-centurion/#findComment-3775615 Share on other sites
Fire Golem
Probably not. I gave one to a Praetor with a paragon blade in my list to get an extra attack with it. I think that's how it works, that's what I was told :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295047-alpha-legion-centurion/#findComment-3775618 Share on other sites
Daemon2027
Banestrike ammo may be worth it. Always gutted that a vigilator couldn't take a sniper rifle. Seemed odd.l to me. I never thought of that before... I now have the urge to go assemble a AL praetor with a rapier and main gauche. Hyaenidae
The image in my head of a Alpha Legion Champion with two power daggers, ash-black armour, and a silenced bolter across his chest is almost overpowering.... I never pick up nuances like that in the rules. It's a cool image thiugh, if you do build one post some pics ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295047-alpha-legion-centurion/#findComment-3777626 Share on other sites
