Nakuth
Greetings, puny humans! I have wandered from my usual haunt in the Heresy sub-forums to put some questions to you, my non-genetically-enhanced (usually) brethren. A short time ago, I got my hands on IA:1 2nd ed. This was to assist with a couple of ideas I had for using some of the non-Bandeblade chassis super-heavy tanks in a 30k Legion army. However, this lit a spark. Like many of you, one of the things I love the most in 30/40k is the tanks. In 40k, I especially love the wide variety available to the Imperial Guard Astra Militarum (the Demolisher in particular). So it was no surprise that I found that the Armoured Company list at the back of the book got my creative juices flowing. My questions are thus: 1. Is this army as fun as it sounds, to collect as well as play? (The most important question) 2. I want to theme it as either an urban warefare or siege army. In particular, I want to include Medusae & Demolishers. Should I mix in a small amount of infanrty to complement this, or just go 100% tanks? 3. Any other thoughts/suggestions that I should know about? I thank you in advance. hendrik
It's definitely a fun list to play, but still needs infantry to work. You can get the infantry in the list itself as armoured fists,or allie in some normal imperial guard. One of the coolest things are the command vanquishers with beast Hunter shells! march10k
Demolishers are great. You definitely need infantry, but You can put them in chimeras to stay with the tank theme...AV12 with two heavy weapons for 65 points, and superscoring? Sold! "command vanquishers with beast hunter shells" is a FW thing, but it's fine if you're not mixing and matching the FW rules and the codex rules...that way lies perdition. Nakuth
@hendrik: When you say 'work', you mean for scoring purposes, right? I was actually considering running two or three veteran squads (Grenadiers upgrades), with at least one in a centaur/trojan (name escapes me right now), and one in a chimera, if I do have to run infantry. Maybe also have a heavy weapons squad for a bit of extra backline support for the heavy artillery. Really keen to use the DKoK models for this. @march10k: Is there a way to run the list using the new AM codex? I've not got it at the moment. I was referring solely to the FW book, which has rules for an armoured company and associated army list. Thoqqu
Not as such but building tank heavy lists out of current codex is very much possible. One foc can include up to 15 battle tank variants, add in hellhound variants in fast attack and any number (up to 30 if you go platoons) of armoured fist units. WarriorFish
Yeah, it can be a lot of fun (though your opponent may disagree!) but tanks need infantry support. The rules for it are a little old now so you can come across the odd problem, but as Thoqqu said you can do a nice armoured company style list in the new Guard codex (without using unbound).
