I don't know how you'd Fire that from a mobile platform but you have my attention

With extreme prejudice. This beast will need massive heatsinks and coolant tanks to not fry in midair.

It might be more akin to the WWII monoplanes that had a (40mm?) cannon

The cannon fire would slow the plane and drop it a bit every time it fired from the recoil however.

Well, assuming the Neutron Laser acts like a normal laser, it's beam would travel at the speed of light, so as long as you have something in your cross-hairs, it's getting vaporized. That said, you'd need super accurate targeting systems to make it effective 'cause I'd imagine each shot would be a pretty big drain on the reactor - hence why I added the sensor arrays from the Glaive's turret to the rear of the airframe

I can see it having a sort of beam effect. I.e. It hits everything in a straight line 1mm wide that the Fire Raptor passed over during the movement phase?

Fraid it's just gonna act like the Neutron Laser from the Sicaran Venator - this ain't no Volkite Carronade :P

Yeah, that too - I'd imagine they'd be on the underside of the fuselage, considering that on the normal Fire Raptor the detailing for the Avengers is there too

Actually, those sorts of issues wouldn't really occur due to the Neutron laser not being a projectile weapon - it doesn't produce recoil because it's a laser, so firing should have negligible impact on the Raptor's flight, except perhaps some kind of electrical feedback due to the draw on the reactor, although that'd probably be insulated against.

Love the Sicaran transport option, though it might seem a bit weird for it to only have access doors on the sides rather than front or back as well. Could it be a good idea to give it firing ports as well?

However, I'm sorry but I'm not a great fan of your Fire Raptor, I just think the esthetics look off, and that the added weight to the front would make it even more unstable than it already is. I'd probably put the canon on the belly of the plane (though you run the risk of making it look like a male appendage, and that it would mess with landing gear), or on its back, like the Thunderhawk main weapon. Also, to make it lighter on the power generators, you might want to replace the lascannons with heavy bolters, or even just taking tge turret weapons off all together.

Great idea though !

Turn the wings into giant cooling vents by running the coolant through them? Makes for an interesting modelling challenge too.

While this is a cool idea, I think considering that there doesn't really seem to be any evidence on major cooling systems on the Sicararn Venator or Cerberus, so that might be a tad unnecessary :P

My MO when it comes to these designs is always 'less is more' - making fewer drastic changes to existing vehicles helps make them more plausible in the setting, easier to convert if anyone is insane enough to attempt doing so and much closer in line to the way variants of Imperial vehicles are currently designed.

In terms of the doors on the Sicaran Advancer, I wanted to maintain the existing hull design as much as possible, plus the Land Raider Proteus only has side doors & seems to be pretty effective. In terms of firing ports, they don't really seem to be a feature when it comes to Legion transports, and don't seem to suit the vehicles purpose to be honest.

You lot are all crazy :tongue.:

Just dropped in to say that I've done a fluff blurb for the Fire Raptor Destroyer, which is edited into the earlier post, as well as to show you the Caelus Air-Defense Tank mock-up:

Caelus Air-Defence Tank:

Designed in the latter days of the Great Crusade, the Caelus was produced to address re-supply issues which had begun to emerge as the Expeditionary Fleets pushed further out into the far reaches of the Galaxy. Prior to its deployment, most Legion anit-aircraft assets relied upon specialised missile munitions, which were complex to manufacture and often in short supply with Legion deployments away from the major Expeditionary Fleets. By fitting a Rhino chassis with an Avenger Bolt Cannon variant, Legions were provided with anti-aircraft firepower that made use of the ubiquitous and easy to manufacture heavy bolter shell. Despite its practicality, the Caelus was controversial within the ranks of the Mechanicum, its turret assembly being developed an undisclosed prototype obtained from a rival Forge World via 'unorthodox' means.

Following the release of the Deimos-pattern Damocles Command tank, would a Sicaran Command Tank be an easy enough concept to produce?

That's exactly the purpose of the Sicaran Advancer - have a look at its little fluff blurb on the last page :P
