Trying to come up with a name for my Order

I’m trying to come up with a name for my order of sisters. What do you think of these:

 

Order of the Flight of Flame

Order of the Sacred Flames

Order of the Emperor’s Mercy

Order of Reclamation

Order of Righteous Reclamation

Order of Ecclesiastical Reclamation

Order of Reliquary Reclamation

 

I think I’m going to go with the order being one that reclaims lost relics and the like. They are a small order that employ Seraphim and Penitent engines mostly with flames a-plenty, but rely heavily on Imperial Guard allies for numbers.

 

Colour wise I think I’m going to go for white armour and dark blue robes – so that kinda rules out the flame names.

The existing Orders typically have names that refer to a symbolic object, rather than an action, usually coupled with either a colour that's reflected in their livery (sometimes a heraldic tincture e.g. "argent" rather than silver/white), or other adjective.

 

So something like "the Order of the Azure Reliquary" might be more appropriate than anything including the word "reclamation".

 

Incidentally, an Order tasked as you describe would be one of the minor Orders Pronatus. The others that have been named are the Order of the August Vigil, the Order of the Eternal Gate and the Order of the Blessed Enquiry. The August Vigil wear essentially the reverse of your scheme (cobalt blue power armour, ermine robes).

That said, the missions you describe would fall to the Orders Pronatus. I like Lucien's suggestion of the Azure Reliquary, though.

To expound upon Lucien's commentary, not only do they commonly refer to symbolic widgets, but they're usually in the form of "The Order of the [Adjectived] [Noun]". To take your last selection I think it'd fit the pattern better as "The Order of the Reclaimed Reliquary", I'd consider mutating your first one as "The Order of the Flying Flame".

 

The colour of the flame depends on the energy released in the change in energy states that goes to form the photons.

If you are going to swap out Blue for Cobalt... you might want to consider a little more colorful form of Fire than just Flame.

Good choice on Cobalt btw.

 

You could also seek out other languages, there are a lot of cool sounding words in other languages that mean fire.

 

Just off the top I would pick Brand, simply because it is another name for a torch, which of course every great treasure hunter will have.

White armor and dark blue robes could look really cool.

Have you thought of the color you plan to use for your weapons?

Bronze with dark grey or black touches might work better than say silver and blue.

Then if you wanted you could do small touches with a bright red (wax on the purity seals, ropes and tassels), so it calls attention to key models.

Like westerners getting tattoos in Japanese/Chinese for a single word.

 

I'd say stick to Cobalt Flame. It's simple, but has a nice ring to it and it's not overly pretentious.

Yeah I thesaurus-ed the living daylights out of flame and fire and their ilk, but couldn't come up with anything that I liked. Pyre was on the shortlist, but didn't really represent the order, they aren't so much heretic burners as they are space collectors.

 

As far as colours go, Bronze will fit really nicely, I'm hoping for a darker blue and dark grey wings that get lighter down their length.

 

As for spot colour, red would be perfect, but they allies to these ladies are imperial guard with dark grey/blue uniforms with orange trim. I think the red would look slightly out of place next to that, so I'll probably stick to orange for spot colours.

Thanks again guys, I'll put pictures up once I've done a test paint (though don't hold your breath on that front, Nagash has consumed all of my inspiration at the moment - such an incredible book.)

Naw the red won't be out of place with the orange trim on your allies, because you are not talking about that much red.

I wouldn't put the 2 colors on the same model... but next to each other isn't to bad... plus it will show a distinction.

 

The way I tied my sisters and =I= together was with the secondary colors.

It is clear that the Blue robe guys are not sisters who have red robes.

But they both have bronze and silver weapons, the same brown leather, and similar bases.

 

Plus it made it simpler for me to get them painted... as I was using a "paint by number style."

Order of the Emperor's Royal Privy?

 

LoL...mine's "Order of the Mourning Rose" [OMR], colors being dark blue and white (white as the heraldic color representing the metal silver), with unpainted (so, boltgun metal) armor.  

 

Themes of flame, martyrdom, and wrath are all good.
