Space wolves armored core. List is posted

Don't panic they are not gone for good but I find I spend to much time building my army around that one unit and most games only go high enough to get one unit in... As such I am going to bench them for the time being and focus my army as more of an armored core with drop pod infantry support at my disposal are 2 rhinos a razorback a land raider Phobos pattern ATM and a predator with twin las turret 3 dreads rounds out my vehicle pool I could steal a vindi from my blood angels also. Given that list and a desire for mechanized armor what should I look to next I already have 2 drop pods so I will need more but my group allows drop cup proxy :p

I have a game tomorrow that I am planning to unleash the armored might of Russ upon the foul tyranid horde that has felled my cavalry many times over. I think I have a good list to handle what he is going to throw at me,

The game was crusader dawn of war deployment at 2000 points I was just shy

Okay now that I have my laptop up and running I am ready to share with you the saga of Ulfringir Blood-Fist and how he came to be Bjorn the Fell-handed's brother in death.

 

After Hearing of the crushing defeat of the Void-Wolf's great company at the hands of a tyranid splinter fleet, the greatwolf declared he would not lose another company chasing after vengeance on a tyranid infested world where they had cemented the hive minds hold and begun harvesting the biomass. In one of the rare times that Bjorn was awoken due to great cries of outrage amongst the chapter for this supposedly unacceptable act he declared his intent to go and claim vengeance for the wolves of Fenris, taking with him the remains of the Void-Wolves numbering only two blood claw packs and the Ogrim Glacier-Heart's pack of wolf guard he made ready to depart for war, swayed by the venerable Bjorn's calm declaration Njal Stormcaller and the rune priest known only as Stormborn for his name was lost to him as a child joined this mission of vengeance.

 

my opponent was playing 2000 points of tyranid I will try to remember the list

 

Formation of hive tyrant 3 tyrant guard and venomthrope brood (tyrant had bone sword and lash whip with heavy venom cannon and adrenal glands Tyrand guard were similarly equipped and 2 venomthropes

 

Swarmlord with 3 tyrant guard

 

Flyrant with strangelthorn cannon and thorax flamer

2000 of bugs making a whooping 11 warp charges a turn

 

he won roll of for deployment and was deployed centrally trying to bubblewrap his Venoms from a drop pod I didn't have but he expects it from me all the time now,The table was set up like the outskirts of a city with low ruined buildings on 2/3 and a large 2 story structure and essentially a ruined rotunda on the remaining space, I was deployed on my right corner to make use of the large structure to block LOS from his zoanthropes with one blood claw pack riding in the land raider and the other hoofing it with my rune priest, Bjorn and Ulfringir were deployed on my left flank beyween my two large buildings and the land raider was to my right flank with the terminators running alongside Bjorn.

 

after deployment I roll to steal the initiative and with Bjorn's help a D6 of 5 is successful, this ut my opponent on the back foot at first before realizing I wouldn't be in range until turn 2

 

SW turn 1

I moved my whole force forward with my dreads sticking to cover the terminators ran forwards to claim an objective rolling a 4 for the mysterious (reroll 1s shooting) not helpful but it put me in possession of 3 objectives with my blood claws on foot slacking in some runs stayed within 3 of the one they started on and my land raider moved onto a third rolling the grave wave generator. they psychic phase was uneventful with nothing in range of any witchfires and no blessings to cast, I used the shooting phase to run my terminators forwards and into cover and the blood claws moved up a lovely inch (they were fatties all game until charging the swarm lord)

 

Bugs turn 1

the tyranid horde moved forwards to get LOS on my dreads and termagants screened all the big critters from charges as nothing was in range for him to make. the psychic phase saw him cast catalyst on his two tyrants and many warp blasts were denyed by Njals 3+ deny rolls (psyker adamantium will and ML 3 versus ML 2) shooting was equally ineffective with me making all my saves and Bjorn's invuln tanking a heavy venom cannon shot

 

I will post turn 2 once I sort out the notes I took while playing  

Okay so some sorting was done today between work and I an post turn 2

 

SW turn 2

The blood claws on foot with the rune priest moved forwards through cover a "glorious" inch and glared at the building they were in. Dreads both advanced I get good LOS for helfrost cannon shots the terminators moved up the building there were in to force a difficult charge range for the hive tyrant with bone sword lash whips. Psychic phase saw his venomthropes take a wound to living lightning, and his carnifex took a wound from the other priest. Shooting was largely in eventful the crusader wiped a gant squad and a tyrant guard bit it to helfrost!!! Otherwise not much else some units ran and no assaults in good ranges

 

Bugs turn 2

Everything moved up and into charge range (first mistake was I let him engage on his terms) psychic phase was shut down by Njal again except catalyst on his tyrant and swarm lord ( did suffer perils of the warp). The flyrant showed up and did a lot of nothing, shooting caused a glance on Bjorn to go through but that's all. Assault phase his hive tyrant charged bjorn and glanced him to death 7 glances only 5 saves made ( still really happy with those rolls all things considered) swarm lord and carnifex charged and wrecked te land raider.

 

SW turn 3

Movement was just setting up charges and getting the storm wolf a good angle on his flyrant. Psychic phase was living lightnig at anything big and a thunderclap from Njal put the hurt on the other gant squad. Shooting put wounds onto the carnifex and swarm lords unit. Charged the terminators into the tyrant with sword and whip, battle leader challenged an bit it before swinging but takes all the wounds out of the tyrants assault allowing Njal and his unit to wipe the tyrant squad down to one wound on the tyrant. Blood claws charged the swarm lord to tie him up whole support moved in venerable dread charged the carnifex ( they both fluff attacks all but one dread lost his cannon) claws took swarm lords guard down to one wound and caused one on him.

 

Bugs turn 3 zoanthropes moved to avoid the storm wolf and everything else was stationary

Psychic phase saw his tyrant kill itself with perils ending combat there and getting catalyst onto the swarm lord again. Shooting was all put into the storm wolf suffered one pen lost a sky hammer sponson. Assaults swarm lord chewed up more bloodclaws but thy held and delt a wound back. Carnifex and the dread fluff Another round of attacks
