I like Jorgmundr too, I hope they put rules in for him when book 7 comes out. There si a character who approaches Kasper Hawser in Prospero Burns. Jorgmundrdefends the dying Rune Priest and Kasper from Quietude constructs on the Quietude homeworld. He introduced himself as the twin blades & it kind of stuck with me

As for the Seekers, I wanted to do a special forces look to them. For the Vlka, completion is all. If they cannot kill something or it escapes, they must continue to hunt to seek completion of things. Hence almost all the seekers wear optic gear, as a record of their kills.

These are ice-cold killers who stand apart from the rout members, not quite scouts or recon marines, they nevertheless have a unique skillset which gets them close to their prey and in a position to make murder upon their intended targets...

Not too much to report over the lunch break, got the lenses glossed. Did some more red glazes to the quad lascannons & still trying to decide on the shields.

The grey shields look pinkish, because, I used some blazing orange in the highlight, which may or may not have have confused the printer a little

Not sure if it is te lighting or what, but the lascannons are a nice deep wine, blood red colour, not pink

Need to soot up the tops with  some black paint and maybe stipple some orange for rust and call the exhausts done.

 

So what do you think to the semi-straight stripes? They are actually straight, just the angle of the model in the picture.

I was thinking to do a simple design, like a wreath and a numeral 6, but not sure where to put it, or even if it will look messy because of the panels

 

Do I make a dragon head prow for the front of the spartan (either side of the front hatch) or will it be too comic-like and make the model look dumb?

My vote is finish the stripes and call it good. Im afraid if you add any more, it will be too much. Especially on the sides. Any more may take away from your knotwork.

Thanks Cody. Yes I did wonder if it would be going overboard a bit. I just wanted to try and convey that she was with the legion from the early days of the Long March from Terra. I might just put the numeral in & call it done.

 

So a slow night, made a few mistakes, but overall a little progress. Might put Geironul to one side soon and work to finish off Herja.

 

I redid the lascannon coils and barrels, as I got paint all over them.

Needs cleaning up. I was going to add just a hint of yellow, by staining th grill inside the head with sepia, but I foolishly tried a little gold and it is bright yellow. Going to take it back to leadbelcher and sepia wash to make the yellowing more subtle.

I have ideas to convert up a caestus to have a longship prow, so I can mount a dragon head on it, I think it would be more suiting to that, or a Stormwolf.

 

In the meantime, I am going with RT era legion symbols for my Space Wolves.

Utilitarian all the way. While I like the old school yellow fill, just red will fit in better with the direction FW is going.

The plain red is the safer bet. However I love the old school vibe the yellow infill gives.

 

Infact scrub that. The yellow gives a nice balance to the side of the model. With just the gold stuff at one end it looks a little empty on the other end. With the red unless you go bright red it will be lost behind the barrels. So go for the yellow and it'll balance up a bit more.

 

Was sorely tempted by the new box game at first but now I'm glad I gave it a miss. Still got 2 copies of Calth I've not done anything with plus a whole heap of lead and plastics I'm currently waiting to crack on with. If the rules of DW get released I'll convert some up. I traded the bulk of my DW pads but kept enough back to eventually do a few squads myself.

 

Mainly working on my brothers boards which should have more done on them tomorrow. ;)

I really like the oldschool symbol, but it may be a bit too cartoony and not be used by FW for their artworks (similiar to what happened with other Badab War chapter icons like the Minotaurs or Space Sharks Carcharodons)

Anyhoo, I have decided to call time on Geironul. She needs some tidy up work. I need to strip the magnets from the quad lascannons and replace it with 3mm rod so the sponsons can swivel properly and not keep popping out. Could be due to the3mm magnets in the lascannons being affected by the 5mm magnets holding the sponsons on.

 

I also need to find, paint and fit the guards which go over the lascannons too.

 

The main reason for calling quits now, is tat I am getting too involved. I want to paint every panel and do something different in each area. It will become overlaod and rather than looking Fenryka, as I envision it, it'll look like Liberacce got hold of it. (ie as gaudy as an Emperors Children)

 

Geironul is supposed to have been with the the legion since before leaving Terra, and I wanted to do some old school markings, transitioning to the knotwork and runic symbols more associated with Fenris. I have a feeling that I am reaching a tipping point.

SO next up is trying to finish off Herja! I have so many partially done models, it seems unfair. I should give each one it's time & get them done.

I haven't done too much thus far.

Changed the weapons from black to reed to match Geironuls, the mechanicum cogs and a bit of tidying here and theere. Still tons to do.

I want to add 2 symbols to the top hatches. one will be the legion symbol, the other will be the vehicle marking. The white stripes, I would like to keep unique to Geironul, I have been using Grey Hunter markings for the other tanks. I may go back to this and also replicate the markings on the blacked out sections at the front of Herja.

Geironul and Herja, side by side. Herja is a new breed of wolf, brought into the legion in the latter days of the crusade or even early heresy era. Her markings are more stylised and bold, Younger, showing the dynamic shift within the legion itself. She shows none of the markings of the old guard (th stripes on Geironul for example showing her Terran origins)

While sharing the knotwork as a common feature there are subtle differences, unifying and separating the vehicles.

The symbol below the wolfs head is the Futhark rune Hraethigaldur. It means Put fear in the enemy. Thought it was quite appropriate.

I did do the wolf head in red & yellow, but it didn't work, i darkened the yellow and it was worse, so I took it back to grey. The added complication with the grey is tat it was a custom mix, as at the time I didn't have any standard mech grey, so getting the colours to match has been a pain.

Using Khorne Red as a glaze over a Khorne Red, & Drakenhof Nightshade base. Final highlight was adding some evil suns scarlet to the mix.

Hate trying to do power weapon effects.

 

I am thinking the fists are too yellow, should I tone them back o, I was thinking to paint them black?

Also, each one has a shield which will go on te fore-arm of the combi weapon. Do I stick to doing the shields. If not I had an idea to put the design on the left leg of each terminator.

Well, after the pigs breakfast I had made of the armour, I think I may have redeemed myself.

 

The models are functionally done. As in they are tabletop ready, but to me they are 95% there. However I leave the rig tomorrow, so I need to pack up tonight.

 

So what is left to do?

 

Tidy the paint, Some has rubbed off where I have held the models, so re highlight afew patches, then matte varnish them to stop the paint coming off. The last big detail will be to do a personal design on the left leg of each suit of armour. 

 

Oh and Runfyre... I will paint the studs, I promise ;)

 

Each  model was destined to receive a shield with their personal mark, as they are Wolf Guard and entitled to display their symbol at arms. However in 30K this may not be legal. So until such time I will paint the design, or part of the design on the leg armour. When I get home I will look out the magnets and see if there is a way to attach the shields without ruining the models.

Squad leader. Unusually he bears no personal affectation on his gauntlet like his squad-mates, however what is also unusual is the gauntlet itself, which is of unknown configuration. Imbedded within seems to be the blade of a sword (possibly former weapon of the gauntlet bearer). Also a new symbol adorns the left shoulder which is usually reserved for the Legion symbol. Why has this been displaced? Does this represent a higher power?

Severl tings of note. Unusual use of Cataphractii helm with Tartaros plate, also the Ancient Norse symbol of the Valknut which adorns the fist... Another symbol within the squad of the Mythical Norse god Odin... Possible divergence from the Secular truth.... Does the squad require enlightenment

 

Other things to note.... The squad seems to lack squad markings or any other form of identifier (intentional?) PLus the use of the Imperiial Eagle on the chest of the armour. Tis is highly unusual and possibly a cause for investigation... Is it an outward symbol of fealty to the Imperium?

 

Addendum: Vehicles found working alongside the unknown squad which appear to originate from the 6th Legionnes Astartes.

Designated Herja, in Futhark... meaning: Devastation.

Newer Achilles class Land Raider. Runes on the flannk are denoted as a Ginfaxi, which is said to award courage in battle, the smaller rune on the front is siad to put fear into the enemy.

Designated: Geironul Meaning, Ancient Futhark Spear carrier or Spear thrower.This vehicle is of early crusade design and is likely used to bear the terminator squad to war. The name sems appropriate as by previous reports Geironul was used as the spear tip for many of Russ' legendary assaults as the 6th Legio fought to reclai the lost worlds of man.

Anyways back offshore and trying to get my half-done Wolves finished. They got pretty banged up, so while waiting for glue to arrive, I made a quick start on this bad boy!!

He has been intimidating me for ages and I keep promising to buy the FW paints, but never getting to it. 

 

I have 3 weeks on this tub, so thought, why not make a start?

 

Every Horus I have seen is pale grey of the Luna Wolves or Black because he has turned. I thought I would try something different. In False Gods, when Horus is considered to be arond the zenith of his powers, he goes to Davin to put down the insurrection there. He presents himself in the sea green plate of his legion with a regal purple cloak.

So that is what I am shooting for. Hopefully I can do the model justice.

My idea is that if I he can be both loyalist Horus or traitor Horus (early heresy, before putting on the black terminator suit gifted to him by the dark mechanicum).

I ended up taking 2 nights off as I was getting blurry vision. I also ended up rushing the end and not going for my normal blending techniques.
