Surround him with hammernators, an ancient with the standard of sacrifice, and brother Corbulo and watch this unit never die!

 

I actually prefer:

-Combi-melta

Cataphractii Termies w/ LC

Brother Corbulo

Company Ancient

 

While TH/SS are hardier, the LC's benefit from Corb's buffs a bit more (+1S and exploding 6's) and the native 4++ from Cataphractii armor is still quite decent. It also lulls the enemy into thinking they can actually kill the unit :)

Did anyone ever listen to The Assasination of Gabriel Seth? It looks like it was probably released at some point and I'm actually sort of curious to hear what happened in it.

I listened to it a while back! It was alright, but then again I'm not the biggest fan of audio dramas... got me to paint my Gabriel Seth though!

 

IIRC it was more of a snapshot of his life, rather than moving any larger story along.

Everyone else seems a little too accepting, it's nice someone voices concern.

 

On a somewhat related note; I picked up a box of Blood Angels Aggressors. I've almost gone completely down the Primaris-rabbit hole, only missing the Repulsor, Reivers and Redemptor. To be honest I have no intention of including those models into my force, but I said that about Aggressors and here I am.

It's been a bad couple of days for my hobby. I tried to do a Dante conversion, made a mess with glue, I was trying to fix it for a good half day yesterday. I didn't like what I ended up with, so today I broke it apart and tried to save some of the parts. Im gonna order what got destroyed and ill start again. This is Dante we are talking about. I wont settle with something I half like.

Dante conversion is one of my great pie-in-the-sky hobby goals. Problem for me—and this is just personal taste—is that kitbashing wont really do. The Death Mask of Sanguinius is a one-of-a-kind piece of kit, so it simply will not do (IMHO) to simply kitbash one. It would have to be almost a complete greenstuff sculpting job. And I can barely sculpt a sandbag with green stuff, so my tastes are definitely far beyond my capabilities in that realm.

3) most importantly, I have not used this mask on any of my 10 sanguinary guards, so it will kinda stand out.

 

I was quite happy with what I was planning to do, but one of the shoulderpads didnt fit under the jump pack which resulted in me making a mess with the glue. Welp, next try.

Has anyone played DE since their codex dropped? I'm playing a guy this weekend and haven't played DE since 7th edition. Could use all the help I can get.

 

I have not played them in 8th...but there is a pretty good DE player at my club who haunts B&C from time to time.

 

Disclaimer: 8th, let alone the new Codex, undoubtedly shook up DE overall, but a couple notes from my past engagements with them:

 

  • They are fast and they hurt...the definition of glass cannons
  • ...except now they can get 4++ multi-wound Grotesques and such to mess up your small arms...
  • Pound-for-pound they tend to have the fastest units in each class and have some incredibly potent weaponry, both melee and shooting
  • Where they throw you off is that their speed often means that they are always attacking at the time and place of their choosing. Sure, they may go down easy to massed bolters and the such, but so often they can simply stay out of effective (massed) small arms fire and then be up in your grill blindingly fast
  • They are Eldar, so they can psychically rock your world if they want to (8th changed this, apparently)
  • They are "40k on hard mode." That can be your saving grace since they are an orchestra: you need to have so many components and elements working just right to really succeed. That will work against you because it means that someone who puts the time and effort into really getting to know DE is most likely a better player than you.
  • Cronos/Talos pain engines are scary: treat them live evil dreadnoughts
  • A big trick will be balancing anti-Deep Strike buffers like Scouts with the need to not give his Wyches/etc... springboards to get into your lines even quicker
  • They can pull off some incredible ambushes and feints...be very cautious extending your forces to polish off a unit or to go for the kill. If it looks too easy...then either your opponent is a noob or it is designed to look too easy
  • In summation, they play like pointy-eared Tyranids in the sense that their speed and lethality is never to be underestimated. Where DE are theoretically a bit more managable is that they have less Monstrous Creatures/equivalents (even their vehicles go down relatively quickly) and they don't have (good) Horde units to mess you up
  • Have a plan and stick to it, no matter what. Whether that's castling, going for objectives, or going Captain Insane-O balls-to-the-wall, just focus on your strategy and executing it as well as you can. Don't get distracted by all the flourishes
  • For counter-cheese, bring a CP-Miner IG detachment and keep baiting him into using the Agents of Vect Strategem. That way he's burning 3CP and you have a chance to earn CP at the same time! It's a battle of wits!

I second their speed. It's easy for them to be in your face turn 1 even without deep strike.

Assault Cannons would do some nasty work if you can keep it out of melee since it wounds their vehicles on 3s and their infantry on 2s.

In melee with a priest nearby even our regular attacks will wound their vehicles on 3s lol

It's probably a good idea to keep your army together to react to the DE players moves. He will definitely come towards you and if you have a unit too far out without support he can easily swarm and kill it.

It actually does seem like it could do quite well against the DE. All those autocannons and mortars will probably actually do some good work.

I'm already spending 1 CP to give the Angel's Wing relic after taking Kurov's Aquila. Not sure if I want to spend that many pregame CP :(
