Pigshead
Hi there, so I'm Pigshead, I normally lurk about on the Dark Angels forum since I got back into the hobby after a 20 year hiatus. My Dark Angels are here http://pigshead.imgur.com/ if anyone is interested...But now, after about 7000 points of Marines, I decided I wanted to try something else, some less power armoury. I was planning on an Imperial Guard army before the name change, so that's what I decided to go for. But since I'm getting married next year, and trying to save some cash, I decided to try and do it on the cheap, so decided to visit ebay a bit, and dig out some old models from 20 years ago that I never painted.I'm working on a back story for these guys too, why they are still around, where they've been, why they've teamed up with two inquisitors and the remnants of a shattered Space Marine chapter, all sorts of mystery involved...So here we go, the first unit of my Astra Squatarium, The 75th Zhufbarian Mechanized Regiment, 4th Company, 3rd Veteran Squad. http://i.imgur.com/KcIIGd3.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/L5RTtJe.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/Hq5g0RL.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297627-astra-squatarium/ Share on other sites

Many years ago I had a dwarf army too, unfortunately I seem to have misplaced it at some point in the last two decades. WarriorFish
No school like the old school, definitely a welcome blast from the past :D Great to see them and painted up so well - not to mention in a scheme reminiscent of the classics. Good stuff, I hope we'll get to see some more! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297627-astra-squatarium/#findComment-3826473 Share on other sites

Pigshead
Am I the only person who would find Squatgryns highly amusing? Great work on these, a real treat! I'm actually looking for a way to do this. I have a few ideas so far. I'm aiming for ridiculous/hilarious with them. One idea was normal Ogryns with the lower leg removed.... Pigshead
There's two more squads like this, a command squad, a lord commisar, a trio of psykers, and a pair of leman russ to do. After that I'm not sure yet. Oh, and Ogryns obviously Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297627-astra-squatarium/#findComment-3826879 Share on other sites

Pigshead
Excellent, when do we see them? As soon as they get a lick of paint. A friend and I are having a little slow grow campaign, starting with Kill Team and then onto 500 point games, 750, 1000 etc, as an incentive to get him painting his huge Eldar army. This is my kill team ready for the first game next weekend. After that I hope to get 250 points painted every 2 weeks or so. Then I'll start collecting some other tanks, "Squatgryns", flyers, whatever else takes my fancy. I think there will be a lot of non GW "counts as" models in the army. Any Ratlings planned? Quite possibly. Although they would be low down on the priority list. JaM_TW
Catachan heads, orc bodies can work. Ratlings... perhaps some snots from whfb, greenstuff,..? Or just a head with 2 feet underneat them. no bodies, just hands/head/feet/gun. But they do look nice! :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297627-astra-squatarium/#findComment-3827305 Share on other sites

Pigshead
It's Zandri Dust, Seraphim Sepia, then dry brushed Zandri Dust. Edged with a 50/50 mix of Zandi dust and some other colour I can't remember right now, then another little highlight of that same mystery colour. The squats uniforms are the same colour, but you can really only see the sleeves and body armour covers the rest, but this just helps denote them as veterans. The rank and file troopers (who aren't bought yet) will be mostly this colour. Pigshead
Ok, so it's taken a little longer than expected due to me suddenly deciding to go back and start edge highlighting some dark Angels, but here we go, a second astra squatarium squad and a leman russ...http://i.imgur.com/UZkYk29.jpgClose up of the Sarge and his trusty axe... http://i.imgur.com/twvoIFv.jpgThe Squads Chimera...http://i.imgur.com/xMoR6it.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/1Y51IxN.jpgGroup shot...http://i.imgur.com/1NWbHtG.jpgThe, as of yet, unnamed leman russ...http://i.imgur.com/qcsRHBr.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/21hNRZw.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Iapx1QW.jpgComing next... A chimera for this squad and a plasma cannon wielding sentinel that will never get used as anything other than a mascot for this army, due to my incredible bad luck with all things plasma. Pigshead
Thanks! The chances of me ever actually equipping him with a power axe in game are pretty slim, but he's a dwarf... He simply has to have an axe! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297627-astra-squatarium/#findComment-3866426 Share on other sites
