DIY: Phoenix Knights (take 2)

So I visit the 40Kfanon wikia after an extended hiatus, only to find out that my articles were deleted. Gone.

Apparently some admin didn't like the heading I was using for my chapter article and deleted it, which in turn deleted all the splinter articles too. So now I have to write it from scratch. Almost. I salvaged the chapter stuff, but it remains to be seen if I can salvage the characters (which is a far bigger loss IMHO).

So, given that I'm going over everything anyway, I want some opinions.

Firstly I'm trying to done down things that stand out too much, possibly play the grudge with the Dark Angels angle more.

Secondly..the names. I can't decide on the names. Since I'm re-writing everything, I might as well go over the names.

Fist things first.

Chapter Master - Arturian Draco. Obvious reference to Arthur Pendragon. To obvious. I have to dress it up differently.

Cheif Librarian - Avernus sidh. Avernus is a potent sounding name, it kinda invokes the image of a mage. Sidhe is a play on Sidhe, the fay beings from arturian legends. Kinda works for the whole Avernus being Merlin angle.

Captain 1st company - Uriel Ignis. Uriel is the Archangel of Fire. Called the sword of God or Fire of god. Ignis is latin for fire. Maybe too obvious. And I already had peoeple confusing him with Uriel Ventris.

So...what to do with those names.

I'm a sucker for elvish and names with meaning, so I have a few ideas I'm mulling over.

Now these are the possible words to use as a basis for a lastname:

blessed             almaarea, herenya, maana
brilliance          alkar(e), rilya, rille
craftsman           tano
cunning             finie
dagger-minded       sikahonda
Daybringer          Aryante
daylight            aure
dragon              fenume, amlug, angulooke, looke
eagle               sorne\sorni, soron\sorni
Phoenix, firebird   soronarr(o)
exalted             varda
faithfu             voronda
fallen              talant
fiery sun           uur-anor
flame N             naar(e)
foundation          talma
gleam,silvery       silda
glorious            alkarinqua, alkarin
hero                kallo
holy                aina, aire
illuminate          kalya
immortal            ilfirin
immoveable          tulka
king                haran\harni
king (of whole tribe)   taar
lion                  raa\raavi
prominent             minda
proper                vanima
prosperous            alya
radiant               alkarinqua, ankalima
sagacious             finwa
sanctuary             yaana
scholar               istyar
shepherd              mavar
shadow                loomin, lumbe, mordo
silver                  telempe, ilsa, telpe, telemna, telpina, tinda
silver (archaic/poetic)   silme
starlight             ilma, silme
tongue                lambe, quetil
tower,isolated          mindo
valiant               astaldo
valiant A               astaldo

Or I could do anagrams? Or combos (silver-tongue?).. I dunno.

I hate it that I'm practically stuck on such a simple thing, and yet the devil is in the details.

So advice? Ideas?

Dude names are my bane but I like the list you put there.

best of luck.

Im also currently with a crisis on my hands cant go with the theme of the chapter.

Death reapers, samurais, knights, or vampires.

Again best of luck!

Why not vampire death knights with katanas?

but seriously, my person recommendation - don't go with the samurai. I don't see them working well and the tau already have the weabos covered.

Hm.." illuminated dragon"? Not bad...

I could go for silmelamb, telempequetil, or ilsaquet, ilsalamb(ar) .. silver-tounged. Nice ring for a diplomat.

anklimindo - radiant tower?

otharkaleo - warrior of light

rilyatano  - brilliant craftsman? nah.

vardataar - exhalted king?

ankalimavar - radiant shepard?

Hm..looking into the entymology yiels little:

The meaning of this name is unknown. It could be derived from the Celtic elements artos "bear" combined with viros "man" or rigos "king". Alternatively it could be related to an obscure Roman family name Artorius.

OTHER LANGUAGES: Artur (Czech), Artturi, Arto, Arttu (Finnish), Artur (Galician), Artúr (Hungarian), Arturo (Italian), Tuur (Limburgish), Artūras (Lithuanian), Artur (Polish), Artur (Portuguese), Artur (Romanian), Artur (Russian), Artair (Scottish), Artur (Slovene), Arturo (Spanish)

hm..bear-king?

Hmm going into name meanings like that is a completly different game and can be very time consuming.

I usually avoid to delve so deeply in names meanings.

My Chapter Master is Vitus Corr which is a mock of my own name.

I would use my own name, Vitor due to its cool meaning.

But it feels a bit weird.

Since phoenix come from greek I think, maybe some greek names?

If you want to keep it celtic search irish mithology.

I think the Elven names are a cool idea. (Being a tolkien fan).

So... thinking this:

Chapter Master:

- Artair (scottish for arthur)  Vardataar (exhalted king)

- Arturian  Kalyalooke (illuminated dragon)

Chaplain: Istar for name.

- Ankalimavar - radiant shepard

- Ilfirinamar - immortal shepard (chaplain take on the skull mask, seemingly immortal)

- Mindamar - prominent shepard

- Maanamar - blessed shepard

Captain: Uriel for name

- Soronarr (phoenix)

- Aryante (day/light bringer)

Librarian:

 Averus Sidh Ur-Annor

Hmmm... I'll wait for some more opinions. I find selecting names the most difficult decision to make.

Silly, I know, and yet I can't help myself.

Also, any criticism in general about my chapter and characters is welcome. Will update this when I re-do the character articles.
