Is Dawn of War III Not Happening?

Porlbem is there is just to much content to shoehorn into one game. With blood ravens, sure you got to play as space marines but there were endless calls for the original legions to be displayed but thne the problem you get is not everyone likes  every original legion (loyalist or traitor) which always leads to people wanting to see other sm's showcased but we all know the rl implication of funding and game design takes alot of time and funding.

It wouldnt even just be the space marine elements, people would want to see guardsmen legion of all kinds with fluff thrown in, specific ork clans, eldar variations and even necron divisions. Overall there is just to much fluff in 30-40k to capture the whole genre.

I'd rather see a proper command and conquer style version of the game as, as dow1 through to soulstorm was ok, but when modded with the likes of firestorm over kaurava it became truly epic and fluff orientated.

While being slightly off subject, i just have to respond to this

and then of course the dismally boring hack'n'slash Ultrasmurfs "SPACE MARINE" which is now coming to a Buy-To-Play MMO near you this coming year, complete with it's own cash-for-pixels shop and buy-to-win business model. It seems the future of virtual 40K is about as dismal and shrewd as the table top...

And how so? It is in no way a Buy to Win model. I know this because i follow their updates regularly, and am also a long-time member. Mind justifying your statement?

Pretty much through experience. Neverwinter, Planetside 2, Guild Wars 2 (to an extent), and I contend even WoW is pay to win because Blizzard remarkably hasn't found a way to ban gold sellers. (probably because they're in those people's pockets) This MMO will be no different. They're doing the same cash-for-stuff model that Guild Wars 2 uses and when a game has a "founders pack", it's basically telling me that they don't have any funding on the game and need handouts to make something potable for players to want to spend more money on in their stores.

Oh, and I quote from the site...

As a Free to WAAAGH! Ork, you will have the full and complete access to the core of the Ork units: Loota, Shoota and Choppa boyz. In addition you will be able to spawn and use, on a daily basis, an Ork Warbike and an Ork Trukk. The rest of the Ork progression will be unlockable through the store at your discretion. You will be able to unlock the classes and vehicles you want according to your gameplay preferences.

Yeaaah... no, I'll pass.

Thats in-game money, not RL cash. Also, the Founders Pack provides you with nothing game-play wise. A fancier skin and early access isn't game-breaking.

That's not really much of a problem. A few gamers with incredibly unrealistic expectations might want it, but no developer with any experience would attempt to deliver it. It's been a very successful franchise with limited factions, I expect that would continue.

I would pay full price (not something I do often now, with Steam Sales!) for even a DoWII expansion.

One with a Dark Crusade style campaign would be amaze-balls. I'd love to be able to use my own colour schemes in the campaign too. Even if the guys are shouting about Blood Ravens, it'd add alot to the campaign for me if I could play them with Ultramarine colours, or whatever.

Also! We need a Chaplain.

Really suprised they didn't add a Chaplain for the Retribution campaign. Would've made way more sense to have a Chaplain running around investigating the chapters heresy than that douchebag Diomedes.

I'd rather not Bioware make Dawn of War III. I don't want second lieutenant Mira to come back with a jacket instead of combat armor to show off her latest breast job along with her new L'Oréal hairdo, an entire order of the Adepta Sororitas with their tits hanging out as they battle heretics, the camera to make a huge zoom on your female navigator's butt every times she talks, a whole race of bisexual space minxes with as much concept of personal space as the World Eaters have of mercy or a dating sim with tsundere dark eldars wearing nothing above their belts.

I Feel your pain. Bioware has made some pretty interesting decisions in their RPGs, many of which are pretty ridiculous.

But If they made Space Marine into the game you just described? I would buy that business day one and no one would see me for the first week at least biggrin.png

That sounds like my perfect game.

Sega didn't just acquire Relic, they also acquired all of the Warhammer licenses.

They handed the Warhammer Fantasy licenses to Creative Assembly (the Total War people...that probably means what you probably think it means). As for Relic...

Here's an old article where it was learned about the WH license acquisition as well as the asset purchase agreement it references (significantly more boring reading there). Sega's aware that Relic was THQ's strongest asset (the best thing they got out of that deal).

Speculation time: Sega would be dumb to not let Relic continue making WH40K games. It could be that they want to wait and see how Eternal Crusade does prior to allocating Relic assets to make another game (which would be a bummer as I don't think Relic's attached to that project). I think odds are non-zero that we'll see more DoW. (Not certain, of course; I mean, Sega might be dumb.)

On the other hand, the odds for a Space Marine sequel are pretty crap.

I am pretty sure DOW3 is being developed, pretty sure. I doubt relic returned to support both dow and dow2 (with dedicated forum and patches) if they did not plan on a third installment, also I remember I read they were already working on a dow3 before thq crashed, then I guess development halted for a while. But since COH2 seems in a good shape I am very confident we will see dow3 somewhere near, at least an announcement.

Also I know its not much and could be an error but If you look for game suggestions (the ones that appear when you type a few chars) in twitch directory, DOW3 is gonna pop up.

Titus is the only Ultramarine I like, sadly.

I like him quite a bit too, he follows Guillliman's words on using the Codex Astartes. But alas, if we see another space marine game (or maybe they'll call it Angel of Death?) Titus will likely not make an appearance.
