ContemptuousAngel
I wanted to share my travails and victories as a new Space Wolves player. Please give feedback and advice as it occurs to you! What I'm going for: I don't do cheese, unless I can eat it. I don't buy models I don't like. I hate TWC and the models for the Stormwolf/Stormtalon are awful, so I won't buy those. I'd rather spend the points and get an allied detachment for a flyer that looks decent than one I can't stand looking at. Also, I fancy myself a sound tactical player. That doesn't work in this edition! With Knights, etc flying around like pies at a clown party, I'm having to adjust to more and more non tactical cheese. So my response is to harden my self and lose with grace. I'll get a knight eventually, and a Sicaran is incoming. IA V.2.2 really helps me not have to use cheese to win. My force so far: Wolf lord, (Krom Dragongaze model) Wolf Lord on BIke (in box still) 30 Grey Hunters 10 Blood claws 8 WG in power armor *various stuff 5 WG Bikers Kitbashed Lukas the Trickster 5 WG CCW terminators 4 razorbacks, 2 vindicators, 1 Whirlwind/Whirlwind hyperios 1 rhino 1 Landraider Redeemer (which I think I'm going to give over to my Flesh Tearers) 1 Storm Eagle gun ship I don't have anything fully painted, but here are some of my WIP. I'll be completing the first few for my vow, I hope. I don't get a lot of time to paint, but I'll try my hardest to complete my vow. Frater Cornelius
Why not build your own TWC and StormGrrr? Plenty of third party retailers and plenty of other ideas out there. Either way, a fine amount of dudes there, buddy. Fine job ;) I find it rather funny that you mentioned non-cheese and Sicaran in one sentence. The Sicaran is criminally undercosted for that he does, especially if you slap a good Legacy on it. That is Wave Serpent level of performance we are talking about here. In some areas even superior :P I disagree about being non-tactical though. There is a reason I am not scared of Knights and why I laugh when someone brings a Baneblade or even a Warhound. Those things are rather easy to deal with, if you know what to do about it ;) There is also a reason why my army never has more than 30 models. It gives me greater tactical flexibility. Being a good tactician does not mean being able to apply real battle field tactics while playing table top, it is being able to react to every situation accordingly and exploit your advantages. Hell, most tactics I use on TT could be classified as real tactics (if the real world ever gets to that level of tech), so what do I know :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299624-cold-days/#findComment-3869514 Share on other sites
FenrisWolf
Immersturm, your statement underscores why we need a tactica from you explaining "how to deal with" them! Frater Cornelius
You mean dealing with Knights or super-heavies in general? I know my list can deal with them, but then again, my list is not a soft one and probably not very suited for friendly games. There is no universal truth against Knights. Every list has their own ways. I have found the one that suits me best. You have to find your own. What does it help you if I talk about my list for half an hour if you play a different one. ContemptuousAngel
Well for me the Sicaran is fighting cheese with cheese. Also a cool model. My answer for knights is probably as expensive as a knight. Get a knight. Get two. Or failing that, get a couple of Storm Eagles or similar stuff. I have wolf guard bikers that are nearly as expensive as a knight in points that if they get close will murder them. So will my Death Company if I take BA allies. Speaking of, something found its way to me today... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299624-cold-days/#findComment-3870152 Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
Well, I have the combined fire of melta TDA, grav cents, long fangs and sicaran with tank hunters for ranged and TWC with psychic support for melee. None of those cost as much as a Knight. In the end, positioning does the trick. All you need is to attack from multiple directions. He can only have his shield on one side. ContemptuousAngel
I have a really fun game coming up with a buddy who runs Dark Angels. We're going to war at 3,000 points. He's got a Mortis pattern deadnought and an assault ram, I've got my Storm Eagle and some other craziness. It'll be a lot of fun. ContemptuousAngel
Ok, I broke down and got a Stormwolf for quite a bit less than market value on ebay. Making aesthetic compromises for competitive play. ugh. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299624-cold-days/#findComment-3872496 Share on other sites
