For the Indomitus Crusade!

Please enjoy my revamped Ultramarine blog/thread. Guilliman has awoken to a lot of change, and most of it isn't good.... We take on this challenge with the invention of the Primaris units, and the awakening of the Primarch. Chaos pushes us back, but yet we will prevail. This revamped blog turns the page into a new era, of painting, Primaris, battle reports and general Ultra coverage. Thank you for checking it out....

Thanks for looking.

Some boring progress shots.... Simultaneously working on my old Crimson Slaughter, so they're mixed in here.

med_gallery_2760_10008_598332.jpg

Half a squad of marines about 80% done. Awaiting a third, fine level highlight, some base work and decals.

med_gallery_2760_10008_543721.jpg

This has been consuming a chunk of time as well. ;)

The marines look good. I like your style. That blasphemy that looks like a hyena looks very good.

LOL. Thanks. It works like a Hyena, probably sounds like one too, and lasts about as long as a hyena would in the 40K universe.

I have really enjoyed the way Nick Kyme writes Ultramarines, so I thought it was a good time to do a quick review on the audio short Strategem: http://www.blacklibrary.com/horus-heresy/stratagem-mp3.html

med_gallery_2760_10216_25680.jpg

In theme with the somewhat rebellious nature of the main character, Sergeant Aeonid Thiel, Guilliman wants to talk to him in person about some of his unorthodox methodology. Aeonid is cautious, and thoughtful as always.

You can guess where the conversation goes from here. I will warn that this audio piece, although short, is bound to cause some controversy over a subject I see kicked around a lot in the Ultra forums.

Without giving anything away, I can on one hand understand the way some people will react to this story. I was somewhat torn myself at the conversation that transpires between Aeonid and Guiliman.

Not much of a spoiler here, but this is a rare, non-combat related story so don't expect any bolter porn here. It doesn't need it though and the story is as much about Roboute's way of thinking and how Calth has affected him as much as it is about any 'strategem'.

The audio background of the novel is up to the normal standard however it is slightly unnecessary as this novel has no real action sequence in it. As a side note there is a quiet 'clock tick' in the background during a large portion of the story that I found annoying as a distraction after a while, but it was a minor nuissance and I found it quite odd in a way, unless Guilliman is a fan of old Terran grandfather clocks!

Although the story might raise more questions about the validity of the 'Strategem', I still think it's a very worth listen, as Nick Kyme once again captures the Ultramarine 'feel' in his writing. Aeonid is a great character, and this story could act as a springboard to pushing him on to bigger and greater things. I give it a thumbs up. It's not on the level of 'Censure' but it's not meant to be and is a nice, cheap way to get a little bit of Ultra-Audio in your life.

Here we go, some new painting content in the thread:

Finally finished my first full Tactical squad. I realized I mixed some weapons up but that's okay, I'll get it on the next batch of 10.

Something a bit large for detail:

Hi fellow Ultramariners!

Finally finished a very tedious painting project... my Ultramarines Gravitron Centurions are done! Very detailed models with lots of bling and I know most of the new kits are like this now, however, I have to admit about 3 weeks into painting these guys I was getting quite ready to move on to another project.

But since they are a staple in my games, I wanted to do them justice and am very happy with how they turned out. These are just crappy, unedited, phone pics and the hues are off a bit, but enough excuses... here they are, in all their Ultramar bullet pumping glory:

And super blown up:

Time for an UPDATE!

First let's see what I got way over my head with.....

gallery_2760_10216_214980.jpg

Now believe it or not I knew somewhat that this 'formation' kind of stunk but I really wanted the limited captain dude so I went crazy, and got the box.

Over a month went by before I finished the captain, and added the 5 guys for a start. I'm really happy with how he turned out:

med_gallery_2760_10216_38830.jpg

I'm glad with the whole squad but they did take a little longer than I hoped. I'm just now putting together the Stormraven, and hoping the next 15 termies won't take as long!

I'm going to start cataloging my batreps in this thread...

This week I posted a fairly complete batrep of my Ultramarines versus an Ork Biker Army (Maelstrom) with some pictures: HERE

Let me know (in that thread) if you have any feedback. Thanks!

Stormraven is a great flyer, you'll enjoy using it.

I use it more as a gunship than a transport. Imo the Hurricane Bolters are mandatory.

Your Centurions look identical to mine :-D

I've used the Stormraven once... it went well. I happened to use it with the Termies who got smoked by an Ork Warboss on a bike... but whatever...

Centurions! They certainly do look similar... just killing machines with giant guns strapped to wrists!

Really nice work so far. Super clean

Thank you. A mountain of work to go still, but one squad at a time. ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

That is very kind of you.

I look towards this project perhaps to get the Ultra's rolling again. I made a post here called being in an 'ultra-rut'. I tired of playing the same core over and over and have bounced around a few of my other armies since. But you know what I discovered? They're ALL like that right now. VERY few codexes have the luxury of looking really different from game to game while retaining a competitive nature.

I don't like the Tigurius model so my next model maybe the 'counts as Tigurius' since he is always featured in my armies.

Use the old Tigurius model instead ;)

I've seen one of the best local tournament players using an UM list built around Marneus Calgar recently, with Flesh Tearers as allies with Centurions in a drop pod. Seems to be very effective but I don't know exactly what he is running in the list, I didn't have the misfortune of playing against him :D

Use the old Tigurius model instead

Seems to be very effective but I don't know exactly what he is running in the list, I didn't have the misfortune of playing against him :biggrin.:

Old Tigurius... I have the metal one. I just simply can't use metal anymore. I'm sorry if this offends anyone, I just can't do it! lol

Okay I hear about these mythical 'Marneus' lists and I've absolutely trounced anyone using him. Before you throw your mouse at the screen, let me explain by saying I realize that I'm probably missing something. Or my opponents are most definitely missing something.

Trust me I've wanted to build a strong Marneus list since day one, but I have his box, stacked on other Ultra boxes instead. Untouched. I haven't even tried him because of the games I've had against Marneus have been so one sided in my favour, I haven't dug into it myself.

That being said, I know this sounds prudish but the idea of my Ultra's Allying with those border line Chaotic goofballs is not happening! Plus let's be honest, half of the reason is just to put our centurions into THEIR drop pods. I find in ridiculous that Ultramarines cut the bulkheads too low on our drop pods, and Blood Angels make their's with more head room so a Centurion fits? Please.

Next codex update we'll have all the various transports in Fast Attack so we won't need to ally with anyone.

Marneus for me is just a very pretty model that I might field in large (2.5k at least), friendly games. His biggest strength is boosting tactical marines... But tactical marines aren't really that competitive anyways.

I have a strong feeling knowing GW they never realized the 'broken' facet of Ultra Cents in BA drop Pods... just like they never foresaw GK Cent-Gate.

Now when they redo Ultra's they'll specify the Cent's can't go in a pod, but yea, ours will go fast attack too, but it will be too late. :)

But hey, Capt America build will probably still be valid.

  • 1 month later...

I love the bright highlights, they have a very stylized look!! Well done.

I am building up an Ultra force around Calgar, I hope he does not loose his God of War ability in this rumored new book.

The Cents look ace as well. I didn't like the models at first, but you certainly helped change that opinion with your painting!!

Looking forward to more!!

End of Line

The new upgrade kits from FW are amazing. They are the reason I decided to build up a UM army on top of my wolves. Plus the primarch model is one of the best ones released yet!!

End of Line

  • 1 month later...

Okay, finally I have finished this captain.

I truly love the fig, and find it an easy counts as for Sicarius however, that being said I have been using Sicarius more and more in my Demi-Co's/Gladius'.... so I just got him as well.

Anyway, without further delay:

med_gallery_2760_10216_76981.jpg

Unfortunately my phone camera is just... not showing the highlight work very well right now (might be time to clean the lens. lol)

But, as an added bonus to myself, I have also decided to finish up this Librarian model. He's pretty stock but I swapped the head, and really like how he turned out.

I've been playing Lib-Con builds a lot, so it felt way over due to finally complete this guy as I work on a 'proper' Tigurius:
