To be fair, I'd say pretty much anything Chris Wraight puts out is worthwhile...but Torghun is a particularly interesting character. Never_born
Hi folks. It's the 24th day of the Black Library advent calendar, which means the short stories and audios are now over - the final instalment is The Watcher, an audio drama involving the Knights Errant, some Space Wolves and an ill-advised attempt to follow orders regarding Konrad Curze. The Watcher by CZ Dunn - http://trackofwords.wordpress.com/2014/12/24/quick-review-the-watcher-cz-dunn/ Just tomorrow's novel to go now Surprisingly enough, chances are I won't be posting a review of that tomorrow! I'll see if I can't write something though Thanks to everyone who's been reading these! Tymell
Hi folks. I'll see if I can't write something though Thanks to everyone who's been reading these! NB I certainly enjoyed this one, and this last drama has me curious as to the legion of the Knight-Errant we see. Apart from Garro mentioning him in Shield of Lies (just when listing names of Knights-Errant) I don't recall any word of him elsewhere. I'm guessing Thousand Sons. He mentions detesting his primarch, which suggests a traitor legion. The description on the BL website tells us he was a librarian in his former legion, which likely rules out Death Guard and Emperor's Children as they didn't have them. He mentions fighting alongside the Night Lords as "another legion", so they're out, and he also says his first time fighting alongside the Space Wolves was before his primarch had been found, so Luna Wolves also unlikely just since Horus was found so early on. Lastly, he mentions seeing the Space Wolf's blood staining his plain armour red, and that reminding him of being apart from his legion now. While it's possible he's referring to the plainness of the armour itself, I'd guess this is a hint at his legion's colours being red, suggesting Word Bearers or Thousand Sons. I'm guessing the latter since librarians were so common among them, and the Word Bearers only took on red colours late on. Chaeron
Reckon that you won't get the Khârn eBook if you don't order now? Wondering if best to get my order in before midnight... Conn Eremon
They've done post-advent bundles in the years previous, I don't see why they wouldn't do that again. Chaeron
Aye, I just wondered if the 'exclusive' eBook would be for that or not! Just weighing up if it's worth it for all of them... Hmm, I've added all that I think I'd want, basically all the Heresy and a few extras - and it's only £33.86. I doubt the 'exclusive eBook' would retail for £32! But, perhaps the completionist in me... Phoebus
I'm probably going to get Khârn, but this needs to be said: the cover art is amateur hour. A year or two ago, the standard for pretty much any artwork for a Black Library novel was impressive. That, unfortunately, is no longer the case. Chaeron
Some are deliberately stylised like that. I wouldn't get a print of it personally... Phoebus
It's only covers by one or two artists, and their work is generally reserved for "up and coming" Black Library authors. Hence why I was surprised to see a cover of this caliber for Reynolds. He's an established writer, and has written broadly popular material for the setting. Never_born
Hi all. I didn't (unsurprisingly) manage to read Khârn and get my review up on the day it was published, but I was only a day late! So... On the twenty-fifth day of Christmas, Black Library gave to us... Khârn: Eater of Worlds - Anthony Reynolds - http://trackofwords.wordpress.com/2014/12/26/Khârn-eater-of-worlds-anthony-reynolds/ One *major* thing to be aware of is that this is a decidedly short novel. At a very rough guess I'm saying about 80k words. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I'm not convinced BL should be selling it for £9.99... Very interested to see what everyone elselse thinks of this! NB PS I'm in total agreement with Phoebus - shockingly poor cover art for this one! DarkChaplain
The most shocking part about Khârn's cover art, for me, is that the artist is Nacho Molina. You know, this guy: http://nachomolina.deviantart.com/gallery/ He did the covers for the Sanctus Reach campaign books and novellas, as well as The Eternal Crusader (which had an incredible amount of skulls in it). Considering his past work for BL, I cannot fathom why this one is so poor. DarKnight
No way I would've paid $15 US for this if I realized how short it was. Great story but I was so surprised when it ended.
