Sanct
Photonic blade also doesn't have specialist weapon so most characters are getting a 2 ccw weapon bonus attack that the paragon blade is paying 20-25 points for. Barbaran Thurible is chem-munitions weapon dream. Deathshroud now wound on 4+ with reroll vs marines. Heavy flamer heavy support squads are 2+ with reroll. Can you imagine trying to charge those units? Even Castallex are now wounded on a 2+ by meltabombs Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299991-relics/page/3/#findComment-3987959 Share on other sites
spu00sed
The other advantage of the photonics blade is it has lost murderous strike. When book one first dropped murderous strike was a cool idea, being able to ID models at initiative. However eternal warrior has slowly been creeping into the system, so it is becoming less useful. PastelAvenger
It's not an advantage that it doesn't have the rule. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299991-relics/page/3/#findComment-3989284 Share on other sites
spu00sed
It's an advantage that it is not paying for a rule that characters can escape from. The draw of the paragon blade was the AP2 at initiative with the chance to instant kill. That chance has been reduced making the weapon less appealing. Thus the fact the the photonics blade doesn't pay for a very situational ability is an advantage. Hesh Kadesh
That isn't how advantages work. And really, Paragon Blade isn't for taking down Characters, it is for taking on Multiwound creatures like Thallax or Ogryns which are becoming more and more popular. Paying for Murderous Strike wasn't the point, you were paying for a S5 AP2 weapon. I'm still not that sure considering the majority of threats a Paragon Blade faces (and now that Praetors aren't the beatsticks they used to be comparatively). Paragon Blade is cheap as chips and lets you slaughter opponents. Throw in a Rad Grenade Forge Lord like many dedicated combat blobs do and you're still 2+ to wound, and have up to 6-7 extra power weapon attacks to make for 100pts Depending on Legion. It isn't as bad as I first thought. But not as good as what many people make it out to be either. After all, taking a Combat Array gets you a guaranteed ID 1/battle. And if it has EW, you can still kill it in the fashion that ends most characters, ID or not. depthcharge12
So I'm thinking for that WB relic as you proposed, to take a a Forge lord on a bike with rad grenades, artificer armor, a power axe, and the relic along with a 5 man squad of plasma bikers. It's expensive, but when you get in that 12" bubble of death with the plasma guns, it's dasvadaniya Rodina to any TEQ unit or bodyguard.
