So I have a knight now that I need to assemble and I picked out the Beaumaris color scheme way back when GW released the plastic kit. In a twist of fate, BassWave began painting his knight in the same scheme. So after some light brainstorming we decided to make a plog to keep each other motivated.

To start things out, BassWave pointed out the old logo is a bit dated. Very 80's is how I believe he referred to it.

So after some work in photoshop & paint, I came up with this for a badge:

That is currently all I have since I need to get some superglue to get started but photos should be up from both of us soon.

I finally picked up some super glue & after getting frustrated with another project I got started.

This is how far I got. I think I'll try magnetizing this before I go further.

Finally got a build day in & since I'm still waiting on my Judge Dredd helmets I continued work on this guy. Hopefully I get some more time on him.

Magnetized the legs but need to add greenstuff to make sure the magnet stays.

He takes shape.

A shot of the helmet WIP.

@Kierdale Hope we don't disappoint you. Any ideas what classic house strikes your fancy?

@WarriorFish Here's the best I can do for now. I have the torso largely completed so only the top down view is visible. I chopped off the nub on the dome & replaced it with a magnet, which is visible on the first pic of my previous post. Didn't have my file at the time so I just got it as close to flat as possible. If I had smaller magnets I could've just drilled in order to put it in the nub but I work with what I have.

Inside the torso the two magnets are separated by some styrene and it is floating on a small layer of greenstuff, which isn't visible due to the angle. I surround the magnets with a ring of greenstuff to add some extra anchor points but I haven't gotten to that step yet. Hopefully tomorrow. Whenever I do the next Knight I'll take a step by step for that part.

There's been a couple of snow days over in Texas this past week so I had some time to work on the arms. I've decided to make my next Knight an Errant. I want to have a powerfist on that Knight so this guy will be a Paladin instead.

So with the new codex, why not a bit of an update as well as a simple tutorial.

Don't know if anyone else went through the trouble of doing this but here's how to make the gun arm movable with the pistons attached:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v120/trex238/Knight09_zpsdf5qxpfd.jpg

You'll need the arm pistons & a rod to connect the two as well as a pin vice & clippers. I used a fairly thick paperclip as the pin vise diameter is slightly smaller so it fits in snuggly.

Clip the peg that would go in the arm. Your connecting rod will be replacing it so using the peg stump as a guide drill a hole about 2/3s or 3/4 of the way through the piston. Do this process for the other piston as well.

Be careful not to drill too much or you will punch clean through. A bit of greenstuff will seal the breach if that happens.

Next drill through the holes that the peg would've gone through. Thread your rod to see the length you will need. You don't want too much or it won't fit. Note if this is the first time you're cutting paper clips USE WIRE CUTTERS. They're typically steel & will ruin the GW clippers.

Try dry fitting the rod to make sure you have the length you need. If it works then glue the rod into the two pistons.

It should look like any glued pistons. My advice is glue one side & let it dry before doing the other.

The key difference is you can move the arms. Gives you options on posing.

So nearly have my first knight finished.

Just need to add details like handholds & he's off to be painted. Also the blue one here is BassWave's knight.

Where did you get that face?

It is indeed the Magaera. Also a player here as offered to sell me the heads & armor plates of his Knights (he only wanted the weapons he tells me) so I'll have all of them looking like this guy. Anyways I present Gordon Freeblade:

Now he silently awaits a fresh paint job.

  • 4 weeks later...

I did want to paint him orange & black but after some discussion with my fellow Baron as well as some friends I've decided that Gordon will have something special done for him so I reassigned the machine to Samus Armored. Her steed, Phazon Strider, had its color scheme loosely based on this. I had planned on posting the last 3 days of progress but instead of posting I would get home & just jump into bed without uploading so here's everything:

Day one: Phazon Strider gets some outline work done. Rumors that the pauldrons where forgotten and unprimed could not be independently verified.

Day two: The main phase is complete but her arms remain unfinished. Two work details were summarily executed for this failure.

Day three: Completion. Celebrations were postponed following discovery that two Squire Striders were awaiting construction. Detail leader was fired. From a rapid fire battle cannon.
