CV gets his wife to paint things.

So, after getting all my hobby stuff out of a storage shed, my wife has shown interest in the hobby for the first time ever. Suffice to say I'm not going to pass up the opportunity to get her hooked. She decides on a color scheme that unfortunately turned out to be Ultramarines exactly. This is what we've got!

Most of the paints were ruined in the freezing/thawing process, but I just bought $35 worth of new stuff, so we'll see how it goes. Just basic stuff probably for now, since its her first mini, I'm betting we'll have a brighter blue and some flesh tones tomorrow.

Wish is could get my girlfriend interested in the hobby but to no avail so jealous on that account :) Anyway on topic pretty good for a first timer at painting am mini so cool but shame its a smurf hehe! Look forward to some more updates is this going to be a collaboration thread between yours are your wife's army? should keep an eye on this either way :)

And argrax earthshade? Or maybe I made that up. I one time made up a rule for space wolves enter able dreadnaughts, but I absolutly swear that I thought I read it.

Agrax Earthshade sounds familiar at least, so does Nuln Oil. I'll take a look regardless, didn't have time to really browse when I was last at the LGS. Haven't had much time to paint recently, but I did have her play around with the SM painter, after which she came up with this:

Which is notably not Ultramarines, and was fairly similar to the planned scheme of my DA successor I was going to repaint everything as:

Mostly she just doesn't like quartered schemes. Not exactly the same, but close enough that I'm going to go with it, probably. Still probably going to finish the Ultra first though.

That purple scheme looks really nice. Nuln oil is the black for sure and Agrax does sound familiar, but I don't use that one. Speaking of washes a series of purple washes over a bright silver mithril like base coat would make are really cool metallic glossy armor, kind of like candy coating a car. Might be worth playing with.

Actually had a few minutes of painting today! She started on the backpack and had a bit of an accident with the old flesh wash on his face, so now he looks like a burn victim. Hopefully tomorrow that'll get fixed. Shame though since she had done a really nice job with the eyes.

Hopefully tomorrow will see some work with the arm and the next couple days will see some purple go on a mini.

Anybody that's done a fair amount of painting knows that you tend to spend more time cleaning things up than anything else. The eyes will have to be redone, but just go forward with this as a the normal shade wash. Paint the high areas back in with the base color and continue on. :)

Ah. With the accident/burn victim remark I thought the whole wash thing had gone awry, and it wasn't just the eyes being covered that was the problem.

Well! This is what we're at now. Backpack is basically done and the arm at least is basecoated.

I also had opportunity to do a quick test mini to see if we liked the scheme and, well, we don't.

It's fidly to paint and, disregarding the quick ten minute paint job, the colors don't mesh terribly well in real life. So she came up with an entirely different scheme, after noting while looking at a primed mini that they look pretty good in black.

I'm not so sure about the red soft armor but we'll give it a shot.
