Operative
Hey Everyone As I was planning an army list I wanted to include some drop pods for my units and I have a few questions: 1. Is it true that the unit inside the drop pod does not have to disembark when they arrive? 2. Do you have to take more than 1 drop pod for there to be a chance that 1 of them doesn't arrive on the first turn? 3. Are there any ways to boost your reserve roles to get drop pods in earlier? 4. Can you field an empty drop pod? 5. Are drop pods effective cover? 6. What units work best in drop pods? Thanks to anyone who can help me out. Fire Golem
The only one I know is 1. The unit is not forced to disembark the pod the turn they arrive. An extra turn of protection is always nice :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302887-legion-drop-pods-quick-questions/#findComment-3937860 Share on other sites
Slips
1. Yes, Forgeworld has said so multiple times. 2. With Drop pod assault, half your drop pods come in turn one; the others later. If you have 1 pod, it comes in right away, etc. 3. Play Raven Guard with their RoW and Alvarex Maun. 4. Look up deathstorm Drop Pods. 5. If they obscure properly, yes. 6. Glass Cannon units; Seekers with Combi-Plasma/Flamer, etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302887-legion-drop-pods-quick-questions/#findComment-3937861 Share on other sites
Hesh Kadesh
To the question of empty drop pods. Yes and no. There are three 'empty' drop pods you can buy without being a Dedicated Transport; Charybdis, Anvillus and Deathstorm Drop Pods (note that the latter requires the purchase of the Drop Pod Assault special rule to be included within the tally of units eligible). If you take any other model with the Drop Pod Assault as a Dedicated Transport, you MUST have the unit it is purchased for deploy within. AFB but if you can take non Legion Allies then Solar Auxilia can take Aegis Defence Lines from Stronghold Assault which have Rerolls. You must be Sworn Brotherhood level of Allied with Imperial Army. Powerful Assault units dropped outside units lacking adequate AT. They're Assault vehicles IIRC, and as you can stay within the drop pod until the turn you need to assault. Disembark with the doors open, 6" move and assault gives you about 14-15" charge range. Operative
Thanks everyone, would putting a veteran tactical squad (say around 8 men and maybe with a centurion) inside a drop pod be a good idea? Slips
What would their Loadout be? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302887-legion-drop-pods-quick-questions/#findComment-3942533 Share on other sites
DuskRaider
A Land Raider Proteus would also help with Reserve Rolls (while hurting your enemy's). Operative
What would their Loadout be? I was thinking 4 power weapons (maybe even lances as they can bust tanks and infantry) and 1 meltagun in the veteran squad. depthcharge12
What drop pods are contemptors allowed to use without the rite of war? I wanted to get one to keep a contemptor in the first turn and assault out of it the second turn. Is the Anvillus the only pattern able to do so? Hesh Kadesh
What would their Loadout be? I was thinking 4 power weapons (maybe even lances as they can bust tanks and infantry) and 1 meltagun in the veteran squad. S5 AP3 can't bust tanks. And Lances are not an option for Legiones Astartes (LACAL, page 86, IIRC. The top of the wargear pages, anyway). Contemptor Dreads can take Dreadnought Drop Pods as before, but you can now take Talons up to maximum size rather than being limited to a single Dread, IIRC.
