Tenebris
A few questions more: - GW is not even remotely clear in what they are selling, so my question is, the GK Terminator kit is the one for the Paladins too? - The "new" Strike Squad kit comes with all the options for Purifier, Purgator, Interceptor and Strike Squads? - The GK Stormraven kit does exist or is simply the classic one with just the GK paint job? - Which GW colors are needed for the GK? - How are the Finecast Character models for GK? - The GK Dreadnought is FW only? - 2x Terminators and 2x Strike Squad is enough to cover all my infantry needs? - 2x Dreadknight and 1x Stromraven is enough to cover my "armour" needs? - The GK librarian is the SM Terminator kit or a special one? - Have you found the GK "psychic and objective" cards useful? - Land Raider yay or nay? BetterOffShred
Yeah the GK stuff basically comes in two kits. There is a 10 or 5 man power armor kit, and a 5 man terminator kit. Each kit has all the stuff for the various builds. The terminator sprue comes with the different heads for Paladins and the armor crests etc. The Power armor sprue comes with all the weapon options and the interceptor backpacks etc and 12 heads. As for the other questions, I have only purchased one finecast out of the space marine line and it was the librarian model, and mine unfortunately was crap. Holes everywhere, terrible casting. Fixable, but crap. This answers your other question about it too. There is no GK librarian model, just the space marine line one. The colors I'm using are quick color primer from home depot (99 cents for a flat black, yes plz, it works great) leadbelcher dry brush over, wash entire model with asuremen blue (old blue wash) re-dry brush with leadbelcher leaving some blue in the creases etc, really dry brush edges of armor with mithril silver. Ceramite white for purifier heads, rune..something copper for lettering, khorne and mechatite red for purity seals with bleached bone for parchment. Khorne/Mechatite red for the weapons. I can't say for sure about the landraider, but after talking with the chaps here, it seems the Stormraven is a better choice. Yeah the venerable dreadnaught kit has some little bits that you could add to a GK paint scheme to make it look more proper, but Forgeworld has the only actual torso with GK markings etc. I am going to build 4 boxes of terminators and 2 boxes of purifiers personally (halfway there!) and 2 dreadknights and a stormravern to start. My plan was originally to play sisters as a main force with GK as in your face support allies, but I ended up getting the GK first since there seems to be semi-solid rumors of plastic sisters this summer. Thats all I can answer -Brett Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303434-grey-knights-army-need-advice/page/2/#findComment-3955025 Share on other sites
ChaoticEric
How many points are you going for? What you need in terms of infantry and armour is of course depending on this :) Infantry; unless you have specific reasons it seems no one is using strike squads at all. However, depending on points you might want to go for 10 interceptors and 10 purifiers to provide some options for variety in your lists. If you have a clear preference for either, go with that one to begin with. 10 terminators is minimum what you need I'd say but it's a good starting point. Same with dreadknights, 2 is a good starting point and then keep adding until no one wants to play with you any more :) Forum-consensus seem to be against land raiders. I have one as a transport and a source for 2 tl lascannons and one multi melta. It tends to die rather quickly though. Tenebris
The points I am after is the standard of 1850 with a Knight Errant included in there, so in truth not many models or units in general. I just want to know what to expect from the kits since the options are a myriad and all needs to be done tip top and WYSWYG since this will hopefully shape up into a tournament range army and a campaign army. Said that the information you have provided were very helpful and you have my thanks for that. The reasoning I have behind this army is that well, it is a secondary army, so I am not that invested... yet (but I will knowing myself) and needs to be portable. The list I am about to follow is the one I have posted a few posts above with perhaps some fine tuning as I do learn how to play and learn my preferences for this army. BetterOffShred
Yeah you should have no problem modelling any of the GK force entries from the sprues. They are super complete and come with everything, and I mean everything. I was pretty impressed with all the options. Painting GK is actually pretty fun I think. You're going to use a whole pot of leadbelcher and probably blue wash painting up 40 dudes. -Brett Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303434-grey-knights-army-need-advice/page/2/#findComment-3955707 Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
GW is not even remotely clear in what they are selling, so my question is, the GK Terminator kit is the one for the Paladins too? Yeah it has all the bits for both. Hence you can easily kit-bash Librarians or Grand Masters out of it. - The "new" Strike Squad kit comes with all the options for Purifier, Purgator, Interceptor and Strike Squads? Yep. Also, its a 10-man box, so you save money (slightly). - The GK Stormraven kit does exist or is simply the classic one with just the GK paint job? Just a different paint job. - How are the Finecast Character models for GK? >Failcast Draigo you kinda have to bite the bullet (as you need the model to use him). Don't bother with the rest. - The GK Dreadnought is FW only? No we have our own kit. Not that you'll ever need it :( - 2x Terminators and 2x Strike Squad is enough to cover all my infantry needs? I'd get another box of Terminators, but yeah basically. We're a very low model count army. - 2x Dreadknight and 1x Stromraven is enough to cover my "armour" needs? Yeah, plus psycannon spam on your infantry. - Have you found the GK "psychic and objective" cards useful? Psychic cards yes (very helpful for remembering powers you've generated, especially which ones belong to which psyker). Objective cards are only for Maelstrom, which is auto-lose for our army so I see no point in getting them. - Land Raider yay or nay? Meltaguns still exist, so nay. jeffersonian000
You can build every TDA unit in the army from the GKT kit, with the exception of Draigo (no Strom Shield). All of the PA units are covered by either of the PAGK kits. Land Raiders, Stormravens, Rhinos, and Razorbacks are all generic Space Marine kits, painted and decal'd as you see fit. Dreadnoughts are an oddity in that there are no good GK kits outside of the FW resin parts, which is sad; thankfully, no one plays GK Dreadnoughts anymore, unless they already kit-bashed them back in 5th when Dreadnoughts reigned supreme. DreadKnights are our only new kit, and it came out years ago. /sad face. So ... get a good Storm Shield you like for your Draigo, either from bits or scratch, get 4-6 boxes of GKT, 2 of the 10-man PAGK boxes, 2 DreadKnight boxes, and maybe a Stormraven (or 2). That will net you a core for almost any GK army you come up with.
