Anyone Ever Attempt to Remove Glued Side Doors From LR?

Question is in the title... I just put together my first of two Land Raiders... it is unpainted / unprimed. After the fact I decided I would like to use the Forgeworld World Eaters Land Raider doors. Since the front hatch is glued shot I figure I can cut out the top of the front assault ramp and put the World Eaters piece in its place since it won't need to be able to open or close but the side doors pose a much bigger problem as you can't simply cut them out. I used the standard thick Games Workshop glue... I was wondering if anyone had a technique to remove them.

I figured another possible solution would be to sand the raised edges off of the doors and then glue the World Eaters doors over them which would cause them to stick out a bit and I am curious if anyone has tried that and if it looks alright.

If you don't care about the survival of the original doors, I'd suggest drilling a hole in the centre of the door, and using a knife/clippers to cut the door away, using the hole as a starting point. Since you used GW glue, I don't think you can use any of the methods that work for superglue, ie freezing/heating.

Looks like you'll need some tactical application of BFI... (Brute force and/or ignorance)

Good luck, and I hope this is of some use to you.

Dallo

You can either do as Brother Dallo suggested and drill, then cut them out, or you can get a pair of needle nose pliers, grab firmly onto one of the protruding numbs on the top or bottom of the ramp, and give a great, big yank. That's what I did in reclaiming a pair of Templar LRCs and repainting them for my Ultramarines.

There's pretty much no way you're getting those things off there intact.

It may work out well that you used GW brand glue. I've never found it to be the most 'enthusiastic' product for sticking stuff together. Much cheaper and better glues out there. Definitely agree about drilling a central hole and then cutting away. Done it myself a couple of times.

so thats plastic glue not super glue right? think youll have to pick, save the land raider or salvage the doors...  if you used cyro glue I'd say just use debonder, but it doesnt work on plastic glue(tried it yesterday)

do you have a dremel with cutting blades? might work depending on the angle/overlap

Yeah it is official Games Workshop plastic glue... and at least when it comes to Failcast that :cuss can't hold anything together. Failcast Daemon Prince's chest split open when I shoved his arms in the holes after letting the glue dry for a week.

Not sure what a dremel is but my dad probably has one. I'll let you guys know if I am able to remove the doors... Won't be doing it until I do my next Forge World order this summer though. The possibilty of being able to remove the doors just means I won't be glueing the vanilla doors on the second one. Which I will be putting together this Friday.

GW plastic glue does NOT work on finecast (actually yet to have a failcast!)

As as said (i have ripped on my plastic doors for WE dors myself) The glue failed on one and popped out and the other had to be cut out. I messed up and slapped some extra armour over the sides to cover it up and fitted the doors to that!
