Moving on to vow #3 I've started getting the base color down on the Landraider. This one is in a lot worse shape then the last one I did. Other then the rough shape of the hull in general it's missing several bits including the Multimelta and assault cannon but also the some smaller stuff like the headlamps which I'm working on figuring out a replacement option for and the lower front assault door which I've pieced some scraps together to replace. 

 

 

 

 

To differentiate this one from my previous LRC I've decided to go with a red scheme. 

 

 

Since I was missing the multimelta and assault cannon bits I had to procure some replacements. The assault cannon I had a spare of so that wasn't an issue, but the multimelta was another story. Rather then fight it out on ebay I talked to the guys at my flgs and we agreed that a MM from the devastator sprue would look pretty awesome. Here I took a left over turret base from my Razorback build and used that along with the Tech marine torso and pauldrons to work up this guy as a replacement. I've also tried my hand at press molding a little green stuff chapter badge, it's pretty rough but not too bad in person even if the picture here looks like poo! It's still along way from done, but I'm hopeful that I can have this done by week's end so I can break in the real meat of this vow and get to work on my Chaplain and Thunderfire cannon! So I started on the TFC! What a piece of :cuss model. Of course it's "fine"crap so it's full of pin holes and has more flash then anything I've ever seen before, but the real kicker is that the marine is monopose. I can't even choose to point the head the other direction GW? Seriously?! golly gee. This is the worst model I've ever put together from any manufacturer. That's just ridiculous for how much the model was. Grr.

TFC is done! I still have to knock out the Techmarine, but I figured I'd toss these pics up before I get cracking on him.

 

 

 

 

So funny story, my wife was stuck on what to get me for our anniversary this year since the gifts this year were wool or copper... (I got her the new Microwave she wanted, copper wire and all that :D) Anyway long story short, she asked what I wanted and I said to get the TFC that had been sitting at the flags and I'd paint it copper. Now here we are. :D

Techmarine gunner is completed. Now I just need to work up the Zeal to finish my Chaplain and wrap up this vow! The clear coat hasn't dried completly so I've got a bit of a shine on some parts of the model in these pics, it's matte though so that will clear up once it's completely dried.

Well I've gotten the Chaplain together... It's more green work then I'd like (I've decided I suck at it!), but I think it will do. Paint covers a multitude of sins after all!

I just realized I left off his holstered pistol too so I'll have to correct that. And yes, when your entire Librarius comes up missing you tend to chain down whatever books you manage to come across. Now to wait for this all to dry so I can start the painting!

So it's been a while since I added anything here... :D

 

I'm playing around with a little something different to add as an allied force for my Templars and thought I should put up the wip to get some feedback from you fine folks.

I wanted to try something that would push me a bit further then the basic black and white I've bwen painting for so long now and stumbled upon these guys. Not only do they have a connection to my main force, but their back story is wicked awesome and the color scheme is also very nice looking. So yeah, I'm going to try and paint up a couple wips to get a feel for them and then go from there. Thanks for looking!

Very nice, you went lighter on the blue than I did with mine though.

If you give the gold a very light overbrush from above, of 50/50 light gold and whatever Mithrill Silver is called now, the shinyness would be accentuated that bit more :)

On the blue I saw most people went dark on theirs, but I wanted to try and get it closer to the (admittedly limited) artwork for them like this:

I tried out the highlights you suggested and it looks good! No so good in the pictures, but for the table top I like it.

 

I'm really going to need a new gold though. The GW stuff I have is really lumpy even with thinning and it shows badly up close. Does anyone have any suggestions for a different brand? Especially if anyone has a good airbrush option! I don't look forward to doing some rhinos by hand! :D

If i may suggest putting alittle agrax earthshade into the joints on the gold armor and maybe nuln oil for the edges of the pauldrons? that'd help define the edges better and create a deeper shadow effect on the whole model.

Just a little update on the current situation. So I stopped buy the hobby shop today and grabbed some Vallijo gold and Createx air gold based off some recommendations. I was planning on getting the bodies for the rest of the first tac squad sprayed tonight, but the captain (Morgan) decided I didn't feel like being able to see straight (or spell well, thank goodness for spell checker!)

 

I did get the bodies cleaned up and primed though (might not be the best cleaning job, but it's done). Hopefully tomorrow after work I'll have a chance to get these started and maybe get a feel for this air paint. If it works out well I'll add a rhino for them once the squad is complete, then maybe a scout squad and an HQ of some sort... Maybe a captain, hard to decide given their background after armageddon. As always thanks for taking a look!

You really have to be thorough on the clean up and removal of mold lines 'cause they'll show like you wouldn't believe with metallic colors.

Yeah, I'm hoping once they're sprayed anything I missed will stand out so I can give them another pass with the file.

 

This group (and the first lion I did) were part of an ebay lot I picked up that was already assembled. I was able to strip them down to the legs and torsos to start from scratch with them, but for some reason it seems like no one ever cleans the mould lines...

 

Hopefully tonight I'll be able to get the base coats down at least and see how we look going from there.

Well between BFG Armada and work I haven't been doing much painting, but I did get the first combat squad done. Switched over to 4th co on these and I picked up some grass tufts to finish the bases from Shadow Dance Designs, they're just getting started up with these tufts and they're really nice so check them out and send some support their way if you're looking for large grass tufts. ;)

... :/ I'm undecided at the moment. Considering this is just getting starting off I would really like to expand the Lions, but I'm still trying to decide on how to proceed with them and I have very few models already purchased for the project. My Templars have a ton of backlog, but... well I'm really sick of black. I guess I need to get off the pot and figure out how I want to run these guys so I can decide either way and it doesn't help that with Tank Shock events on the horizon that will eat into some of my time. Maybe it will coincide with ETL though... :D that would be nice ;). indecisiveness at its best, seems to be what I excel at!

Hear ya on the back log . I have 13 Tac squads  of different Successors ready for the ETL.
