WIP: 75th Karshaki Dragoons (25 March) Basilisk Complete

Recommended Posts

I added my entries from the latest painting challenge All of One and Blood and Glory to keep all of my stuff in one thread.

  Karshaki Dragoons

The Karshaki Dragoons hail from the agri-world of Karshak located in the Ultima Segmentum near the border of the Ghoul Stars. Most within the Imperium consider this to be a frontier world and a stepping stone to explore deep space beyond the Imperium's established borders. Karshak breeds a hardy people and they have been providing tithes to fight for the Emperor since their world was rejoined with the Imperium over two centuries ago. Although relatively young in the eyes of Terra, the people of Karshak developed a strong martial system as they defended themselves from the numerous xenos factions that have attacked the world throughout its history. The Karshaki employ a combined arms force and this is evident from their structure from the brigade level down to company level. It is not uncommon for a company commander to have infantry, armor and artillery organic to his or her organization. In some instances even air assets are under the direct control of a company level ground force commander.

What follows are a few offerings from a single troop from the 75th Dragoon Regiment. Kilo Troop or "Killer" troop as they are more commonly known are a combined arms organization featuring mechanized infantry, dismounted infantry, artillery and air assets. They are currently led by Captain Jakob Longknife.

Captain Longknife is relatively new to troop command having previously served as the assistant tactical officer on the regimental commander's personal staff. The previous commander was killed during the Pietros V incident fighting against a Necron decurion. Longknife is a veteran soldier but untried in troop command. His superiors and soldiers are eager to see what he can do.

VSGT Lysell is a tough old bastard who has served on the frontier for more than 10 years. He has survived up to this point through a combination of street smarts, ruthlessness, stubborn tenacity and being just plain mean. He is a tough and demanding NCO but looks out for his boys the best he can. He can often be found in the thick of the fighting to inspire his squad by his personal example. He currently leads a veteran mechanized squad as the troop completes refit and prepares to rotate back into active combat duty once again.

These guys are really smashing! Those bases look great, too. How'd you do them?

Would you mind putting their histories up so we can read about them (they're already in the Challenge but, come on, it's your thread!)?

The bases are super easy. I mix sand, rock and grass filler in a tub, shake it up and then dip a glue covered base in the mixture after I'be painted it. After that I just blow off the excess and done! Takes about 20 seconds.

I added the regimental back story and character histories.

Thanks for the motivation!

Father Josiah

http://i602.photobucket.com/albums/tt103/crouching_lictor/DSCF1039.jpg

Father Josiah is a man of deep faith in the Emperor and the Imperial Creed. Although slight in stature, in battle he becomes a veritable beast as he flings himself and his flock into the crucible of battle. He guides the newly initiated troopers into battle to baptize them in fire and blood into the Emperor's service. He is known to incite the new recruits into a near frenzied state with his fiery rhetoric and unshakable zeal. To the truly faithful, no foe is too terrible and no sacrifice is too great. The Emperor's Mercy awaits.

Apologies for the lack of progress. I picked up new students on Monday and I have been busy with them as well as my own continuing education. My goal for the weekend is to finish a third infantry squad and assemble the wyvern.

That kind of looks like  hagrid..... and is the eviscerator blade supposed to be at that angle?

Finished up the infantry squads today. I also started on one of the wyverns. I will paint it in pieces and then assemble it. There is a lot of detail on the kit!

It's been a busy week but I've managed to get some work done on the wyvern. I still need to finish the guns and crew but the hull is mostly complete. I still need to add weathering to the crew compartment as well.

The weathering does look very nice. It's very tempting to not say this, but, I fear it must be said: where's the mud laugh.png? That's a little joke every tank gets.

The tracks look suitably worn as does the rest of the model. Is that Typhus Corrosion you're using or something else?

Keep it up thumbsup.gif!

I have thought about mixing some sand with a suitably mud-colored paint and dabbing it on. I'll have to experiment with it. I use Typhus Corrosion around the rivets and on some machine parts. Mostly I use a cheap black craft paint, watered down slightly and then I stippled on with a brush that I cut down for just that purpose. I stipple the black all over and then paint inside with a metal color followed by a glaze of Argax Earthshade. I then do the same with a cheap craft paint brown. It turns out good and its super easy.

  • 2 weeks later...

It's been another busy week. I did participate in the Bataan Death March Military Heavy Division with a completion time of 8 hours, 12 minutes. Not bad for not having trained for it. Anyways, here is the first completed Wyvern. I have acquired a second Wyvern which will complete the battery known as "The Reapers".

I have a Basilisk on my painting table now. I primed it this evening so as soon as it dries I will start the preliminary work on it. I'm trying to get my 1250 list painted in time for the tournament on Saturday but I don't know if it'll happen.
