Looks good to me, I didn't realise it was a custom facing until I read the paragraph above

Thats the idea

The giveaway is that there are no supports under the shelf (like the 3 little ones on the one above)

Getting the angles was a pain and theres a fair bit of filler in there. Thats why I sprayed it with primer before I took the shot.

It wasnt rough enough though so Ive hit it with some GW texture paint

Im going to make a blast door to go into the hillside below the bastion and I want to put the aquila onto it but to keep it in keeping with my guard logo Ive changed it slightly

Which of these two do you prefer?

or B

or are there any better ideas. I didnt want to do the classic aquila. The door will break down the centre of the skull

Another update

I thought I had better finish the Taurox as Ive been working on it for an age now

Here are the final pic. One thing I would say is the steps on the side are so fragile. I keep grabbing it to pick it up and naturally put my thumb at one side and finger at the other, then SNAP... its gone again! Ive glued it about 5 times. Id hate to use it in a game!

The only thing Ive not done which I might do later is dink it and scratch it with battle damage. Its a pretty busy design though so didnt want to break up the lines too much

The undercarriage shots are somewhere back up the thread.

EDIT: looking at the pictures Ive not painted the holes in the cannon end! I might drill them out

EDIT2: Ive missed the open close buttons under the doors..... I hate taking pictures

B for me. The skull reminds me of the Punishers logo.

Its a variation of it but the punisher logo isnt mirrored on both sides. This one is as the wings are identical

I just like the way they did the skull so Ive used it on all my vehicles throughout the guard army. Its become my adopted PDF logo but Im not painting that on 40 pads...

All your Paintjobs are awesome. Do you use your airbrush more then your brushes ? i still try to figure out the best way for me.

Hi, it depends on what Im painting

I use an airbrush for the base colour of any mini or vehicle (on top of halfords grey primer)

If its a mini I wash it with ink then blend up to highlight using brushes. The issue with my guard is they are equal green and brown so I tend to spray brown and block the armour in green. Problem with this is it takes a week to crank out a mini. Ive seen others do the same in 3 hours

If its a vehicle I do a bit of airbrush highlighting, hit it with purity seal and then oil wash it. I then seal it again and highlight by brush.

Hope that helps but if you want any pics of the stages let me know

Thanks for the tips. After sealing your models ! Is there realy a noteable difference when working with washes ?

I had time to saw up the ply wood Ive bought for my armies on parade 2017 board and dropped all my painted minis on it just to see what I need to paint next.

Clearly two tanks but a load of troops too.

What it also highlights is I cant buy anything else big. I was thinking a shadowsword centerpiece

Looks great! Can't wait for some more paint to go down.

I don't want to take away from your awesomely painted Knight, but what if instead of that you squeezed in something else IG.

Like some sentinels or baneblade or another tank/Valkyrie?

Just would really fit the theme of a last stand IG fortification.

Or maybe make some rock formation and put in some fox holes for HWTs or a sniper vet squad?

Thanks Duz

Im just getting an idea of placement and size.

The idea is to raise the bastion on a rock face and have a big bunker door in the wall then all the vehicles in front on a kind of slope downwards to the front line.

Im really happy with the paint job on the knight and I think it makes the army pop in what would otherwise be a sea of green. Ive seen some great krieg display boards but they just look washed out with mud and mud coloured minis so I want this to pop a bit. I might just move it elsewhere

I went with option B

I couldnt think of a way to transfer it to the plasticard but then had an idea

I printed it on paper, cut it out and then used a glue stick (kids Prit stick paper glue) to stick it to the card.

All I had to do then was cut around it

Its all ready to go on the door (and to be cut in two)

IT just needs a bit more sanding on the edge

Ive finished another 5 troops. There are even a couple of standard unmodified ones there!

Up next... a bit of motivation

After seeing the great tanks from P3RKHOUR I thought Id get on with one of mine and had a go at a bit of weathering

This is after a straight airbrush of dark green/light green

Wash with green and black oils

Purity seal

sponge dab damage with brown/orange/black

careful wash;/placement of brown/orange/black oils

purity seal

Vallejo pigments

Purity seal (got some frosting too grrrr)

Highlight with brush

Your weathering and chipping is such an inspiration to me, though I don't even try to replicate your results.  The areas where the paint has cracked and peeled away in large patches have so much depth.  Really really impressive.

Thanks

Im starting to understand the "less is more" process to weathering.

Some of my old rhinos look like they have the pox!

The only issue with this (which is why I like your colour scheme for weathering more than mine) is that if you are not up close you miss all the detail as its bland. I could paint it in comic book colours using brighter greens but its not real.

I'll take another shot this weekend once the turrets done

Yeah I'm definitely still on a steep learning curve with it, my first attempt with weathering powders was hugely overdone because I didn't realize how much brighter they get when they dry.  I still think I err on the side of too much weathering, but it's definitely my favourite part of painting so ill keep at it.
