Pride of the Legion with Vet Tac Squads

Sniper only gives you precision shot and always wounds on 4s, it no longer gives you rending, the weapon itself has to be sniper to get a weaker form of rending now. At least that was how I perceived the wording. If having sniper really does make even your wound rolls of 6 become ap2 then that would be good, I'm just not sure.

The qualifier of each one says "If a weapon has the Sniper special rule, or is fired by a model with the Sniper special rule...."

5 Man recon squad does it better; Infiltrate, Scout Move and has acute senses if they outflank badly.

Of course, can't assault as well with only 1 attack, and shooting is slightly less, but you aren't taking such a cheap squad for their shooting prowess with 5 bolters.

As to that use of the squad? It will work maybe once. I wouldn't have thought it especially competitive.

60 bodies for 1700 points? If you really wanted that many bodies, tacticals get you there for just 750, leaving ~1000 to spend on more point effective units. Vets are better than tacticals, but they cost more and will die just the same.

It's not about the bodies but 60 melta bombs... Let that sink in. And they are fearless and have fleet and have some axes sprinkled into every squad.

Most armies I run into have easily half their points in tanks/castellax/dreads/knights/etc?

the flaw is having to get to melee. Consider the plethora of anti marine blast weapons in 30k (scorpius, medusa, vindicator, plasma deredeo, basilisk etc..) and then consider the best tanks have armoured ceramite

Armored Ceramite is a non-issue with Melta Bombs since they have Armorbane instead of Melta.

Wow.......

I'm pretty prideful on my knowledge of the rules, and somehow I never knew that. Thanks for educating me

No problemo!

I see what you're saying, but I'd still rather save the points and use them on ranged shooting instead. You're going to loose a lot of those bodies before they make it into melee and they cost a lot more than regular marines.
