House Rackham

“Al Somnia di Magia”

Long since lost to history with the Fall of Madrigal, the Psi-Knights of House Rackham once stood vigil over the Vassal worlds of Akira, and later the Imperial worlds of the Sphere. Mistrusted by the wider Imperium, this Psychic knight Household found sanctuary within the Lightning Bearers Domain and served alongside their expeditions during the Great Crusade.. During the Fall, they fought and died valiantly in the defense of this noble but doomed Legion.

(Psi-Lancer Cervus Renescor, Scion of House Rackham)

I figured that It might be a good Idea to break this topic off from my master II Legion Project Thread in the WIP Subforum.

This is something that I have wanted to build for a long time. Ever since I entered this hobby I have been infatuated with titans but more specifically the Mysterious Psi-Titans of the Astra Telepathica.

House Rackham (as I've decided to call them) will by an ally for my II Legion LIghtning Bearers project.

I decided to take the opportunity of modeling a missing legion to include of the the other great unknow mythes of 4ok, and to create a Psi-Knight Titan House to Rackham this area of the lore.

Above is a WIP of my first Knight. The armor is covered in psycho frames to transmit the Pilots Telepathic commands to his mount. The head and Psychic hood were inspired by the work of Dave Taylor on his knight Paladin.

And now a few of the more interesting details:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is the current state of my Psi-Lancer. Please let me know what you think as I loath painting vehicles, I just never seem to do them justice. That is also why there is such sparse armor in the Lightning Bearers tongue.png .

I'm also very interested to hear your thoughts on the Unicorn Crest I decided on for the House. I like the circle imagery as it ties in with the empire of the Sphere, but I'm not sure about the color. The other choice from silver was red, but I do really like the subdued elegance of a silver unicorn.

Overall, extremely well done.

The crest, I have two opinions. One, knowing it was not part iof the original model, I am impressed. Two, it does look weird. Am I seeing two horns and a braid next to the neck?

I believe what you're seeing with the "second horn" is the unicorn's ear, and the "braid" is it's mane.

Orias Knight-Dancer

The ancient designs for Orias Family of Knight armors can trace their lineage to golden age of technology. Equipped with a hevestus Pattern Jump system and grav-plating, the Knight-Dancer was designed to be the most nimble of the Titan Family. Unfortunately, many problems with the jump systems delicate calibrations led to the armor falling into disrepair. More discouraging than it's technical problems however, were the Dancer's control and interface concerns.

What few records that still exist  all show similar design and control problems with the Dancer and Orias Chassis. Even with Mind Impulse Units crafted during the hight of Humanities golden age, the mental dexterity and reflexes required to maintain balance in this knight armor strained, during jumps and combat put most pilots past their breaking point.

During Old Night, the lack of capable pilots and household Sacristans inability to maintain the archeotech of the titan lead to the suit falling out of favor. Such was it's state of abandonment that by the time of the Great Crusade, only a handful of functioning Dancer class knights existed spread among the disparate knight houses.

One notable example, was the Knight House of Rackham.

In some ways, the Psychic household of Rackham seemed the perfect fit to remedy the myriad shortcomings of the ancient Dancer Class Knights. Their houses telepathic control interfaces were able to outperform conventional MIUs; which allowed their pilots a better grasp of the armor's nimble balance.

Additionally, one of the most significant problems of the Knight-Dancer was rendered inconsequential when one considers Rackham's curious methods of warfare.

In order to allow the Dancer limited jump and maneuvering capabilities, weight concerns and fear of over encumberment lead to stripping down the Knights armor and the limitation of their weapons payload.

House rackham however, specialized in the fighting of psychic warfare, utilizing the relatively light weight Psy-Cannons which required little in terms of ammunition; being fed directly from the psychic reserves of the armor's pilot.

It was a combination of these factors that Lead to House Rackham maintaining a number of these ancient knight suits by the time they were enlisted in Humanities Great Crusade.

Above is a really quick sketch I made planning out how I envision the Knight-Dancer to look. I will be modeling this using the Paladin as a rough canvas. In terms of height and stats, I imagine that the dancer would stand shorter than the Paladin type knights, with armor value of 12 all the way around and a decrease to 5 Hull points.

That's really more just a rough Idea to tide you over While I plan out the construction of this project. I honestly think most of the Dancers parts can be sourced from the Paladin kit with a hefty amount of cutting and converting.
