I would say sword, fits the model better i think. Yet i'm a axe fan, but this axe at least, looks to massive, attract the eye too much on it.

Otherwise, great start, looking forward to see more !

I agree about the sword, it does fit better.

But I love the axe as well so...... I magnetized them!

I vote axe, it looke suitably brutal, and more importantly, we all know that when it comes to melee weapons, SIZE MATTERS.

Size does matter, And its a big boy. Made it out of two red scorpion axes. Here's a better shot of it.

First Interview: Post Hive Victorinus Massacre 10 hrs

Date: 784.967 M39

Subject: Pvt. Jomas  DeZevelim

"We waited together for what the Dark Angels told us were cowards to come for us, out gunned and out numbered but we wouldn't run, the Angels gave us the courage." Private Jomas barely rasped into the vox recorder on the table. His voice would never recover from all the screaming he had done in the past few days.

Perhaps, thought Inquisitor VanOrden, I will see if this planet has the facilities to fix that for him. "Please continue private." Prompted the Inquisitor.

"There where only two platoons of us left, none of the officers made it out of the riots in the cites, and only a hand full of our non-coms....made... made it............. none of them made it." He paused took a deep breath and began sobbing as hard as when the inquisitor found him bound to a pilar in the governors mansion.

The story was coming out in fragments, VanOrden sat back in his chair to let the young private have a moment. He had seen many things in his eighty-six years with the Ordo Malleus, but the skinning pit he found this man bound in front of, with his eye lids cut off so he had to watch the horror unfold, was beyond the normal cultist activity he had encountered. He had his suspicions that it was related to the heretic trader shipments he had been intercepting.

"It seems I've provoked them to strike out for supplies." VanOrden muttered to himself.  It would not be long now, he thought, before he could track them back to their base and crush these heretic scum.

Jomas looked up at the Inquisitor, for the first time since VanOrden found him, crimson tears streaking his cheeks under his lidless eyes and coughed out a muffled "Sorry....Sir," before continuing, " They had us bottled up in there for what seemed like days before the Angels found us, their drop pod landed in the central courtyard, at first some of the men thought it was the end, thought that they were the ones attacking us. There were five of them..... They were just like in the stories.... Oh god-emperor they were.... they were..... they we..."

"They were...what?"

"Jomas, what were they?" He asked softly.

"They were not enough." Rasped private DeZevelim quietly, collapsing back into his chair he began to sob uncontrollably. The man was clearly at his limit.

This is getting me nowhere, thought the inquisitor to himself, maybe if he gets some rest he'll be more coherent. VanOrden reached out and flipped vox recorder off, "That will be all for today Jomas. My medical staff will see to you now, get some rest and we'll speak in the morning."

The inquisitor rose and headed towards the door, he was about to speak again when he heard the man draw a shuddering breath and between sobs he heard him say, " Their lord told me to remember a message, to tell to all the "children of the imperium"."

"Tell them that Cithonias Mallus, Praetor of the Fifth Cohort of the VIII Legion, son of a murdered father, brother of betrayed brothers has come for them all, and their deaths will not be swift."

The inquisitor paled slightly at the news but calmly said, " Get some rest son, I'll speak to you in the morning." The look in Jomas' eye would haunt his dreams this night.

That's it I give up on ever attempting fluff, how am I meant to compare to that? ! Man it's plain awesome

Thanks Man, I honestly came up with it at work and on the drive home.... and maybe a little whilst watching gladiator for about the 1,000th time last night. Don't give up on fluff, for me it is the fuel for my hobby skills, if each guy has his own story he is that much more alive to me and i get a better sense of how his model should look when he is done.

No takers? Well.....Sons Of Orar.

Well then on to the Update.

A little bit of back story on the First Lieutenant of my motly gang of murderers. Everybody say hi to.....Symond Raize

Emergence: 36 hrs after translation from the Warp

Date: 237.014.M39

Ship Board Date 23.022.M31

Cithonias turned from the date slate he had been reading and scowled, the permanent scowl of augmentic surgery, at the door to his chamber as it slid open, he recognized the marine standing at attention in the doorway and motioned for the man to enter, "Symond, come in." he said his gravely voice filling small briefing room.

The Night Lord entered the room and stood at ease before the praetor. "How many times must I tell you there is no need for such formality between us, remove your helmet and give me your briefing."
Symond Raize removed his helm revealing a pale square jawed face, with a razor shave mohawk and a small steel augment where his right ear should have been, and began to talk.

Cithonias studied the mans armor, the scratches, the carbon scoring, the trophy skull he had taken from the Dark Angel what seemed like only months ago, only half listening. Besides every thing he was saying was already on the data slate Mallus had on the table. The news was none the less of such significance that had he not read it already he would have been hanging on every word. It was almost inconceivable what they had discovered aboard the loyalist strike cruiser.

Eight thousand years..... they had been lost for so long and the galaxy it seemed had gone insane.
After our flight from Terra, the six battle barges under my command tried to make a short jump out of the system to re-group with the rest of the legion to make it to Tsagualsa, but we were lost to warp, along with two of my ships he thought bitterly.
Upon checking the star charts it seemed that we were at the far edges of the galactic north-east, far past the established borders of the Segmentum Obscurus, near a cluster of stars known as the Lectri's Maw System. Making for the nearest star the fleet happened upon it first victims, in a few thousand years he thought, a space marine strike cruiser "The Pride Of Thundara" of the Thunder Lions chapter. Chithonias almost laughed out loud thinking of the confusion his hails to the cruiser must have caused, asking if they were with Horus or if the fought for the Emperor. It would not have mattered how they answered I still would have ordered Symond to board and destroy them.

The boarding action was fiercely fought by the Lions but was over in a matter of hours they were no match for Lieutenant Raize or the eight assault boats I sent.

During the battle reports by the men of strange armor marks, unknown legion markings, and shrines to our grandfather all over the ship led Cithonias to have the ship searched top to bottom, all the data was hacked from the cogitators on board and every scrap of information was down loaded. The ships on board chronometer, that had been one of the most shocking revelations of all. By his and his men's perception their journey only lasted ten months but outside the warp, eight thousand years had passed.

Cithonias had ordered his fleet to weigh anchor around the destroyed barge and began pouring through the data from the barge when almost by accident a marine had happened upon another great discovery, in the personal quarters of the captain of the destroyed marine company, a copy of the Codex Astartes.

He glanced down at the tome on the desk next to the slate, reading through the codex Mallus disregrared most of the martial tactics espoused in the great liber, but decided then and there that in this was all he needed to start building a base of star systems to strike back at the imperium. He realized then that the man had stopped speaking, and looked at him directly.

"Lord what are your plans, the men need to know?" Symond asked.

"We are going to do the same thing we have endeavored towards every night since we were betrayed. We're going to destroy the Imperium." The venom in Mallus' voice could have eaten through iron. He rested a hand on the codex, the talons in his artificer gauntlet digging into the leather, and continued,
"My brother, this liber contains plans of governance and information that will help lead to their downfall, and it is so much the sweeter because our Uncle Roboute wrote it."

Symond grinned at that and said, "It is good to know that those uptight arses of the thirteenth are good for something."

They both chuckled darkly at that, and then Chithonias spoke again, "Assemble the men in the hanger and have the senior officers of the other ships meet us there in two hours Lieutenant, I will tell them the plan then."

Symond Raize saluted fist to chest, old in the style of old Terra, reattached his helm and left and Chithonias was alone with his thoughts.

Sternguard Claw Veteran Lieutenant: Symond Raize ; Veteran of the long war Terran born

C&C on him welcome. The back drop is not finished yet, will be soon though. This is the planed style of the army, like they have just engaged the enemy, dirty but not too beat up yet. ( I did not like how the chipped and scarred armor with lighting came out.)

In other news. I'm building a scenic base for my Praetor and have tall scaled up him by 2mm.

Hope you guys enjoy.....and remember the words of our praetor "Oderint dum metuant!"

Like the inclusion of fluff, and that Sons of Orar marine's really pops - the armour reminds me of the Dornian Heresy Ultramarines.

There's a seller on Ebay that sells resin kits based on Dornian Heresy Ultramarines (without permission from Aurelius Rex afaik). I suspect that might be the source of where that Son of Orar came from.

Very nice stuff, I really like the conversions that you have here. :tu:

Thanks man

Like the inclusion of fluff, and that Sons of Orar marine's really pops - the armour reminds me of the Dornian Heresy Ultramarines. Cool conversion of the Lord Executioner mini - it really works as a Night Lord!

Good eye, It is Dorian heresy, just a five man squad to break up the blue and brass painting.

I'm gonna try to free hand the chapter markings on them to practice for my night lords.

Emergence: 56 hrs after translation from the Warp

Date: 237.014.M39

Ship Board Date 23.022.M31

The stormbird's ramp came down on the hanger deck of the Ill Wind with a heavy clang, and ten skull faced, midnight clad souls moved as one down the ramp. Behind them in a slow almost solemn stride came a single marine in burnished mark III plate, the bronze faceplate of his helm reflected dimly in the pale light of the enormous space as he surveyed. As the warrior hit the bottom of the ramp he looked out over the assembled marines in the hanger of the surface thoughts from them whispered across his conscious, and he frowned behind his helm. So many lost at the battle of Terra, many familiar minds were missing, the thought left a sour taste in his mouth.

He activated his vox with an eye blink and uttered two words, "Find him."

"We will find the cur Lord Acerien."The claw leader said in acknowledgement, and the squad moved into the hanger.

He continued to look out over the hanger the thirty or so claws had gathered near the thunderhawks in the center of the hanger. Ten months stuck in the warp had done nothing to cool the Librarian's rage, A flash of silver war plate caught his attention for a moment.

So some of our brothers from the Iron Warriors had come to hear Cithonias's speech he mused, I hadn't believed they made it aboard before we jumped.... The thought was interrupted by a sudden call over the vox. "Lord he is near the starboard engine of the thunderhawk Red Claws, and he looks like he knows your coming."

"I would expect nothing less," Acerien said dryly, "I will be there presently, continue to watch him." He moved through the hanger towards the furthest thunderhawk from him. As he neared the assembled claws the background vox chatter of the squads dropped off to a deathly silence, they all moved back some nodded to him respectfully as he passed. He noticed absently that the frost was already starting to form on his gauntlet's fingertips no small wonder they kept their distance. The thunderhawk reared above him as he strode slowly towards a lone night lord, the rest of his brethren fanned out in a loose circle behind him, it reminded Acerien of the time he had stabbed a class mate in the scholam yard on Nostramo.

A pop hiss sounded and the lone marine pulled his helmet off and tossed to aside, it clattered on the deck. "I suppose you have come to try to kill me? I knew you would if you made it away from the Sol system." He said wearily shaking his head, the skulls on the trophy chains of his armor rattled softly at this movement, he looked up and grinned suddenly, pulling his legion gladius from his hip. "It doesn't really matter." He spat through the grin he wore. "I'm still here and so are my marines that is all that matters, and you know you can't beat me with a blade so let's just get your death over with."

The Librarian stopped just out of striking distance and began to speak, his voice booming out from the vox speakers in his grille. "Captain Valcoers," he said ignoring the challenge," you are a wretched thing. You speak of your men like you cared about saving anything but your own skin, do they know you left more than half of your company to die on Terra when you could have saved them? Do they know that you crippled my transports during the flight from the Blood Angles offering us as easier targets, just to ensure your own escape?" Pure hate bled from his voice. The entirety of the hanger had fallen silent now, the ring of Night Lords from the assembled fleet pressed closer, even the Iron Warriors were taking an interest in the proceedings, "I lost forty to fire from your attacks alone, your cowardly actions can not go unpunished. I have had ten months, then months to dream of all the ways I would kill you, all the ways I would make you suffer, torture you, flay you, bleed you dry." His right hand moved to rest on the skull pommel of his force sword. Valcoers' black eyes tracked the movement, he shifted his weight in response. Acerien's head tilted to side almost mockingly as he said "Do you have any idea what I finally decided on?" A deathly silence hung between them, for a long heart beat nothing moved then, "To illuminate you!" He bellowed.

A look of confusion creased his features and as the captain opened his mouth to reply, a sheet of blinding white lightning arced from the librarian's left hand faster than the eye could track, bathing the room in hash white light and all that came out was a wordless scream of agony. Valcoers dropped to his knees in a heavy crash of ceramite on steel, as Acerien continued to pump more energy into the astartes, his armor and skin blistering and blacking.

"You thought after your betrayal I meant to have an honor duel with you?" He howled the question at the collapsed marine.

Back arching the Captain's body spasmed as he tried to stand, to attack, to strike with his gladius, but it had fallen from his hands so he hurled himself bodily at the librarian, his hands hooked into claws. Acerien brought both hands up and unleashed a fresh wave of lighting so powerful it threw the marine back ten feet, pining him flat against the thunderhawk. Skin burned and ceramite melted and the astartes captain's black eyes boiled in their sockets during second volley. The screaming didn't stop till half way through the third onslaught of lighting the body toppling to the floor and a scorched silhouette marring the side of the landing craft, still he continued the torrent of lighting for over a minute, untill all that remained was a smoking husk of armor. There was a bang of bolter fire to his left and the librarian turned in time to see Valcoers' company champion crash to the deck a hole through the face of his mark VI helm.

"He was about to shoot you in the back," Voxed one of his claw. He chuckled in amused acknowledgement and turned to face the corpse the armor poping and creaking as it colled on the hanger bay floor. Greasy black smoke curled from the blackened war plate, and hung in air reeking of burnt astartes blood so thick that even through their helmets filters they could smell all cooked human fat. He reached out to trace the burnt outline of the former captain on the side of the thunderhawk. "Send his remains to the engine reactors to burn, I want no trace of him left in this Legion."

Chief Librarian Acerien "Thrice Damned"

So I decided to add a Tech Priest to the army I'm still not done with him yet (still in peices all over the model table). But i did play around all day making him some faithful servitors, and drones.

they still need various cables, chains, green stuffing and the trimming and sanding in spots. I made them out of the new mechanium models and bits box scrap.

  • 4 weeks later...

So after a few crazy weeks of work, I have found myself at an impass. I set out all the night lords I have assembled over 108 marines, three or four dreadnoughts, and a tank. I thought to myself "Hey you finally have a full company of space marines." then I thought "Damn man now your gonna have to hand paint all of those."

So all of that to say... I need to get an air brush and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on something in the 100-150$ range?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks
