Khornestar
Again I apologize if I sounded condescending or anything, as I truly did not mean to. Simply a misunderstanding, I just took it the wrong way. As for hounds, I agree with you that the GW sculpt is just fugly. I prefer barghest fiends from puppetswar.eu myself, though Fenrisian wolves would be my second choice. The 5++ isn't much, especially against small arms fire. That is a weakness which is partially negated by 2 wounds each. The benefit is that against AP3 or better shooting, or attacks that inflict instant death, they always get a save. UlsanGamer
I just received my order of barghest fiends. And I have to say... They are gorgeous. Nice size too. Really fit well on a 50mm base. Scribe
Yes, those are great models, built 10 of my 15 yesterday for a game. :] 1750, Daemonkin vs Imperial Fists. We both showed up expecting to play Eldar, who had shown up a bit earlier and started playing eachother. My list roughly Insensate Rage Slaughter Cult (Juggerlord, Armour (i'll be dropping) Axe, 2 x 8 CSM in Rhino, 5 Possessed, 2 Spawn, 1 Spawn) Gorepack (5 Bikers, 4 Bikers, 5 Hounds, 5 Hounds) 2 War Engines (Mauler w/Lasher x 2) I think thats it (its early....) and he had alot of Lascannons, ML, and Rhino's, Razors, Preds and 2 Dreads. HQs, 2 Librarians, Dev Centurions, etc. Oh and a Thunderfire that was a serious beast. Mission was The Relic, and he set up in one corner with all the area terrain and prepared to just shoot me off the relic for 6 turns. Turn 1 He went first after he infiltrated some sniper scouts, and I scouted my dogs toward them and the big terrain he was set up in the castle corner. He unleashed all his fire, and while I was getting cover, it was just barely enough. Both Maulers at 1 HP, both dogs down to 3, 1 Rhino Immobilized. I pushed towards the scouts on the left flank, and the wall of marines on my right with the dogs and maulers. Everyone else moved toward the Relic, while the BT flew toward the castle. Not much else happened as he was just too far away. Turn 2 He shoots up both of the Maulers. Its just too many Lascannons/ML to get through, not enough terrain. He whiffs on the BT though. :D I get a charge off to the Scouts, while my Lord joins 1 biker squad to get to the relic. The Hounds get in and start messing up marines on the other flank. BT flies forward again, ready to drop down next turn. Turn 3 BT gets grounded, but there's not a lot of stuff happening otherwise. One of my bikes makes a ton of cover saves negating a lot of his single fire Las. We messed up both the BT grounding, and potentially his ability to charge after being grounded. Regardless, I charge the BT on my turn into this Centurions/Librarian unit, and he makes a mess of things and is in the open for Turn 4. I'm up to 8 Tithe, so down comes a BT for a Biker Champ. I get on the relic with my Lord/Bikes. Turn 4 He tank shocks me off the relic, and now I'm in surrounding a Rhino, with no shooting at all, sitting on the relic. He has a unit of sternguard, gives them prescience, and with a rapid fire its all she wrote for the BT. My spawn in T3 killed his Vindicare (lol spawns...yes!) but they get smashed by a Dread. Plenty of stuff getting killed, I'm up to 7 Tithe so I summon a Prince off a Champion. I'm sitting around this tank with a bunch of units, so chuck Krak grenades at it, and it dies...in goes the Lord (+1 A Trait) and he cleans up the squad solo. Turn 5 and 6 Not much going on, as I've crippled a lot of his shooting, and now I'm blocking LOS with Rhinos, and my CSM/Lord/Summoned Prince keep picking up the relic while he shoots me off. Tally Him: First Blood, Warlord Me: Warlord, Linebreaker, The Relic. Victory for the Daemonkin, but I need to keep notes on whats going on as I'm sure Ive made some mistakes here or there. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305221-khorne-daemonkin-discussion-tactics-background/page/26/#findComment-4037199 Share on other sites
Midnightmare
Sounds a fun game, you list is very similar to what I have been building less the maulers/spawn ad I have been thinking soul grinders. I guess the general consensus with hounds is msu? I was thinking of running a bigger pack for my Juggerlord you see (no spawn) The tithes seem to rack up as the game goes on :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305221-khorne-daemonkin-discussion-tactics-background/page/26/#findComment-4037229 Share on other sites
Scribe
I like large units of dogs, but I'd seen a few recommendations for MSU that made sense, so there it is. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305221-khorne-daemonkin-discussion-tactics-background/page/26/#findComment-4037262 Share on other sites
Lucio
I've been using a pack of 8, with a squad of Chaos Spawn fulfilling a similar role to harress the enemy Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305221-khorne-daemonkin-discussion-tactics-background/page/26/#findComment-4037324 Share on other sites
Midnightmare
With smaller units I guess more targets and gains Blood Tithes faster when they die. They can still converge on the same unit for damage output. I am going to experiment with a few different configs; beauty of the Gore Pack is the amount of FA you get to use. How did you run you bikes? I have am going for melta all round, maybe if points allow an Axe but unlikely. Most of all - did you enjoy the codex? I can't wait to get stuck in (playing campaign at the moment with my Flesh Eaters) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305221-khorne-daemonkin-discussion-tactics-background/page/26/#findComment-4037340 Share on other sites
Scribe
Yeah I enjoy the book in all ways. Fluff, concept, list, upgrades, formations. Its an honest to goodness Khorne book, without the taint of those other gods or undivided wrecking it. ;) Are there a few tweaks to be made? Sure, but find me a 'perfect' product that isnt OP (Eldar hows it going) and I'll be shocked. :] I ran the bikes naked. Against what I faced I would have liked the melta guns, thats for sure. Scribe
Just two, it was a lot more tied up in transports/tanks/dreads, though to be honest I dont even know how much Centurions are in points. How are you liking their, erm, realistic male anatomy? It, uh, took me by surprise. I think Slaanesh might have gotten his/her claws into them during casting. I'm probably going to "neuter" them so they don't get any funny ideas during games, and because I run a warhammer group with young teens (their parents probably wouldn't approve. Haha). I already keep my old metal daemonettes hiding in a draw. Charlo
Reading this thread almost makes me want to start Daemonkin instead of Ad Mech... Almost :P Blood tithe is a wonderful system though. I doubt I'd ever have enough models to make a decent summoning force though. Still in the camp that think it's a shame that it's all drawn from an outdated Core CSM book but hey ho, seems rather effective still! I doubt I'd ever have enough models to make a decent summoning force though. Still in the camp that think it's a shame that it's all drawn from an outdated Core CSM book but hey ho, seems rather effective still! It is for sure effective and most importantly fun. Even when half your army gets shot to pieces, you can feel the fear and frustration as your opponent prioritizes targets and freaks out about everything being in his face on the second turn. I think the key is a balance of MSU while maintaining the ability to actually do damage with those units. Blood Tithe just makes your stuff a little better, but summoning Bloodletters isn't going to make up for losing 5 units. If you want to win tournaments, I think drop podding Skitarii with Space Marine allies will do the job. If you're a devotee of the Blood God I think you'd be very happy with KD, guaranteed to be soaked in someone's blood. I'm with you about the shameful copy + paste nonsense, but what can we do, other than harness that rage to reap more skulls? Trevak Dal
Looking through the codex, I can see that GeeDub added more of their oddly/poorly named elements. The Wrath Daemonkin Warband is known for eating the dead from both sides...while the Bloodgorged are known for their extreme persecution of any Chaos faction that doesn't worship Khorne (or worship Khorne to their liking). My warband "The Sanction" is basically the background of the Bloodgorged (With that bitchin' Punisher Style Khorne rune) with the Harvest's color scheme (I switched from "STC Khorne"/World Eaters/Skullsworn)I'm having a hard time painting my Daemon Prince though...the breastplate is the only "armor" on his chest, which was a "golly gee" moment for me, as he has boulder-like muscles rippling forth-it looks kinda weird. The Brass Apostle (Who will have Brass armor and red Skin), looks like he has boulders of muscles coming out the back of his Wonder Woman bustier... Charlo
Yeah, in terms of fun I don't think I've seen an army like it. Very sad I didn't get a similar system (or decurion) as the loyalist blood Marines :P Might have to wait to see what they do next time around with this book, but the idea is on the back burner for sure. Infinitely sad they didn't make Jugger riding Zerkers though, they basically have a model in fantasy even... They could've been something very special compared to the stupid 6+ Jugger Letters. Khar'vros the Crazed
I'm getting ready to make my lord and namesake...I was looking at the fantasy Khorne Skullreapers and thinking they'd make a great base for a lord. They could've been something very special compared to the stupid 6+ Jugger Letters. ....Blood Angels got 5th edition furious charge, have Khorne Beserkers that can take jump packs, have FNP, and can have power weapons (Death company-though they are now WS4), have ATSKNF, have excellent psyhic powers, pretty good drednoughts, Grav weapons, drop pods, Landraiders other than godhammer, Heavyflamers in Tac Squads, Combat Squads, ATSKNF, Blood Priests that can grant FNP in a bubble, a non forgeworld Flier that's easily purchasable from hobby shops that's an assault vehicle. Oh and your tanks are mostly fast and are Faction Imperium (with the exception of chapter tactics Space Sharks/Carcaradons, can battle brother ally with just about every other Imperial army including Knights). >_> Daemonkin undoes some of the failure that Phil Kelly wrought upon us, but it's got a long way to go. It's biggest strength is that we can actually get a bonus from our guys dying in droves/being forced to challenge and losing-which was happening anyways its just that we didn't get anything for it. Like I've said when it released, I'm shocked that the Blood Tithe table wasn't random. Not being able to take dedicated Landraiders or having assault rhinos sucks, but there it is.
