Hello!

So I was looking at the shiny new kits from GW and thinking I'm going to get a box and make Psykers and Astropaths and Techpriests and maybe a Commissar from them.

Anyone else thinking the same? Been thinking of how I would kit-bash / custom built the aforementioned units, now GW has presented me these! smile.png

The new AdMech stuff is very cool, but from a Guard point of view there's also a lot of conversion and counts as ideas they offer especially for Vets. I'm hoping we can see such endeavours in the barracks soon :tu:

I concur, lots of great opportunities for kitbashing.

I especially like WarriorFish's idea to use them as part of veteran conversions. I've always really disliked it when people use just regular Guard models to represent veterans and love seeing units of veterans that actually look like veterans. Bionics would do the part nicely, as well as esoteric admech weapons to represent battlefield scavenging.

I love those Skitarii Vanguard helmets especially, putting those helmets on Cadian bodies with some of the other gribblies like backpacks and such would make a fantastic steampunk/WWI looking regiment.

The first thing I thought about when I saw the Phosphor Pistol (I don't know the actual name...yet) was: dueling pistol. Maybe a few cuts with the knife and there it will sit, holstered on an officer. Ooo maybe even my Colonel msn-wink.gif?

Maybe fiddle with the Rad Carbines to make some Vostroyan conversions?  I love the idea of wood paneling for a PDF force or the like.  The helmets would also work to make custom Solar Auxilia if you wanted to dodge the FW models (which are suspect in my book).

One idea I had though am unlikely to do anytime soon:

Either way, a squad of those Rangers with haywire weapons airdropped from a Valk/Vendetta could land safely in cover (Move Through Cover) and do a number on an enemy vehicle...more reliably than veterans/scions with melta?

I'd also look at the arquebus thing, it's a 60" AP3 sniper rifle with armorbane. That's possibly penning AV14 at 60", that's almost as good as having a Vindicare assassin. Not to mention the base rules. You can take 3 special weapons, which means you have a hell of a punch against vehicles for an infantry squad. Then you have the galvanic rifles, so anything that gets close gets hammered with fire until it dies. If you chose to fire at an infantry unit you have a chance at precision shots, which you can allocate to a character, and reduce the enemy's leadership value, so you can maybe make them break and run.

I want some rangers, because they look the coolest.

And they are relentless, correct? Move and fire the arquebus all day long!

Mother of God... I didn't put that together until you said something. Gah... That's disgusting. I was so hung up on the being able to charge after rapid firing. Then I remembered the IG vet statline, and said, who am I charging?

I wonder if the Skitarii's torsos are a separate bit from the legs?  If so, you could mix and match them with Cadian/Catachan torsos/legs for a sweet custom tech-IG army.

The sprue pics are on the GW site. Looks like the legs are separate.

Sadly only one of each special weapon in the box, right?

On the other hand FW Volkite whatsits look just like the plasma culverin if you want a lot.

On the other hand (mechadendrite?) they're expensive points-wise!

I do have a couple of WHFB long rifles lying about unused....

I think I have three of those AdMech sniper rifles ready!

I just picked up a box of them today and they are very nice. I intend to use them as an allied contingent to my Guard. The only problem is figuring out what to include! I am loving the rangers and the Ironstriders so they will definitely make the cut. I'll have to wait for the book to see what else I want to include.

I just noticed the long-rifle user is not on a bike base as I thought but a new oval base.

A shame as I intended to use bike bases! sad.png

Are they the same length as a bike base? I would go for it anyway thumbsup.gif!

How tall are they, Wulfgar? Could we switch their legs for some Guardsmen legs?
