To ask is to be damned, exposed to what consumes thoughts and weaves mortal fates with threads of abnegation. Where she walks there is reckoning. Freedom and subjugation. Satiety and hunger. Not of Bohtar, but a wretched place, sanctioned, where men broke themselves to satisfy a cold metal hunger. It is said it was the birds that led them to her master's hovel. Freed and gifted a knife, she burned them all instead, painting ashes upon her face. The white crow found her shoulder and the birds cackled.

 

Follow the crows to find their queen. Seek her death and understand the true cosmic existence. For there is no reprieve for those touched by malice. Only an eternity, winding backwards and forwards, reliving the moment of damnation and atonement. Her hatred of gods and masters compels her. So she walks dead, forever among the living.

This is my first fully painted HQ and my longest single model painting project to date. The idea came to me in a fever dream, so I went all out. Despite learning a lot on the project with a number of mistakes, I'm happy overall.

Fantastic, the skin coloured face plate is rather unsettling and the feathers/fur collar give quite the exotic look, whilst still being firmly grounded in the Crows' aesthetic.

Thanks guys! It's been a while since I painted so I'm just ramping back up. I'll be at LVO with an army of dark compliance playing Zone Mortalis. Still have a bunch more to paint!

Thanks to some nice goon pointers I now have better pix of my suicidal bird men. Here are the latest 'volunteers' along with some better shots of stuff I painted last year (scroll up for the update, too many images). I initially thought the recon squads would look like garbage because the poses looked hunched over and weird, but as a group they look really really dynamic.

Cheers guys! I think that this is the first army that I love. It’s been a pleasure to work on and lets me go all out on conversions and making a character of my own. It’s very different from my IWs. I plan to re-visit my IV later this year. I’m looking to incorporate a little of the style that I learned on my crows. When I started my IV ‘clean chaos’ didn’t exist, but with heresy popular around the world there are lots of clean 30k armies. I think I might go in the direction of making my IW a little more fallen to malal. The hard part will be to do that without slapping on spikes, horns, and icons.

That's one heck of a lot of infantry on the progress pile, I'm very much looking forward to seeing them done; this is one of my favourite armies on the net.

My crew ran the HH Zone Mortalis event at LVO this last weekend. I showed up with 1000pts of Corpse Crow Boys expecting to get stomped hard because milita are pretty weak.

 

I did a lot better than I expected, going 7:2 with a few blow outs. It wasn't a super competitive event, and I should have lost a few of those games, but I was impressed at how milita performed overall. I ran my Zone Mortalis force as Abuhman Helots with Survivors of the Dark Age, taking a big squad of grenadiers, demo pack recon squad, flamer heavy weapon squad, plasma fusil tech support squad, a pair of commissars, and some medics. The thing that made the list playable was the AP upgrade warlord trait, which I could apply to either the plasma fusil or heavy flamer unit. Doing this at the start of the game gave me flexibility against what I was facing- AP2 fusils if I saw a lot of terminators or AP3 flamers if I saw a lot of marines.
