Founding

In the early years of M41 the Order of the Sacred Rose were travelling to join a crusade on the fringes of Segmentum Obscurus. However, en route to the muster point the order received a message from Cardinal Denasti of the world of Oltenesca, whose diocese had been riven by civil war instigated by a rebel preacher named Regel. Industry had all but ground to a halt across Oltenesca, with uprisings springing up in every major city on the world. Aid was requested to bolster the Oltenescan PDF, and so the Order sent a detachment of Sisters under command of Canoness Amelia Ralen. Upon their arrival, Canoness Amelia took her warriors directly to the heart of the rebellion, the embattled hive city of Vanasren. Taking charge of the besieging PDF forces, Amelia drove her army to the great chapel at the centre of Vanasren, bringing fire and blade to all who stood in their way. One squad managed to break through to the chapel ahead of the main force, and a vicious close range fire fight broke out, by the end of which stood a single Sister by the name of Marialle, her gun levelled at preacher Regel. Regel was distraught, horrified by the slaughter he had witnessed, proclaiming Marialle and her Sisters murderers and slaves to the whims of a corrupt tyrant. When she questioned him, he told her that Cardinal Denasti and the planetary governor were corrupt deviants, who treated the people as cattle and fodder for their sadistic whims. Doubt began to creep into Sister Marialle's mind but still she held her aim, demanding that Regel give himself up and come with her to face judgement. At that moment, a drop of blood fell on to Marialle's bolter. Confused, Marialle and Regel turned to the statue of the Emperor which they were stood before, and were stunned to see the statue weeping tears of blood. Marialle took this as a sign that Regel was right, and the Emperor wept for the destruction which had been wrought on the people of Oltenesca. She vowed that she would bring an end to the slaughter, and see Denasti and the Governor pay for the crimes carried out in His name. Regel blessed Marialle, anointing her with the blood from the statue, and together they set out to convince the order and the PDF of Regels words. It was said that Sister Marialle shone with the Emperors light, her words spoken with the voices of a thousand saints. Convinced of her words, the Order and the PDF forces rallied around her, travelling with her to the capital and executing the Cardinal and Governor as heretics and traitors of the Imperium.

An investigation by the Ordo Hereticus and Ecclesiarchy found evidence enough to support Regel's claims and elevated him to the position of Cardinal. His first act was to petition for the remaining sisters to found a convent on Oltenesca, partly to aid with the efforts of rebuilding as penance for their actions, but also to guard the miraculous weeping statue of the Emperor. The Ecclesiarchy agreed to his request, however Canoness Ralen, overcome with shame at the events which had transpired, declared herself unfit to lead and took the vows of the Penitent. The choice of her successor was clear. Sister Marialle was declared Canoness Superior of The Order of Her Sacred Anointment, named in honour of her blessing by the sacred blood of the weeping statue.
