DanPesci
So this is a farily "quick" battle rep as just on my lunch at work, and the battle was last friday after a few beers, so some of the fine details espace me First game me and my mate had played in ages, he brought nurgle and i brought my space wolves. We were using the random objectives (tide of war???) for th efirst time too, which turned out to be very fun, an in the end led to me wining the game, as if it had been kill points or standard objective holding, id have lost by a big margin. Space Wolves Combined Arms - Ulrik - Rune Priest (ML2, Biomancy) - Grey Hunters x10 Plasma, Plasma, C.Plas, w/ Drop Pod (deathwind launchers) - Grey Hunters x10 Melta Melta C.Melta w/ Drop Pod (deathwind launchers) - Grey Hunters x10 Plasma, Plasma, C.Plas - Skyclaws x5 (2 melta gun) - Long Fangs x5 4x L.Cannon C.O.F - I.Priest, 4x CW - I.Priest, 4x CW - I.Priest, 4x CW - WGTDAx4, combi plasma's (2xPS, 2xPA) w/drop pod (deathwind launchers, locator beacon) Nurgle 1850 - Bike squad with lord and sorceror, mark of nurgle making them T6, lord had brand of skalthrax, blight grenades, claw and fist. Sorceror had whichever pyshic discipline it was to get invisibility, but didnt get it (hurrah!) - 2x Plague marine squads with plasma and rhinos - 2x Vindicator - Heldrake (plague dragon!!) - Traitor Imperial Knight Nurgle won the roll off and deployed first/took first turn =========== Turn 1 =========== I failed to seize the initiative, and the vindicator and knight moved up the board to bring my iron priests into range (who had deployed very agressively). The bike squad moved up behind this front line of armour/death. Sorceror casts a power granting him a shrouded bubble, affecting the whole bike squad, both vindicators and the knight Vindicators and knight shoot at my iron priests, but only manage to kill off a couple of cyberwolves. --- S.wolves I bring in the wolf guard pod (with ulrik and the rune priest in) and the plasma squad pod, dropping them both in behind his bike squad. 2 Iron priest move up the board to content an objective and, my skyclaws jump onto an objective in no mans land. Rune priest rolls only 4 warp charge and fails to get off endurance (first time ive actually managed to get endurance, and it doesnt work...woo!). In what is probably the worst round of shooting ive ever had...Wolf guard and the plasma squad open up on the bikes, but due to shrouded and the lords blight grenades (which id forgotten he had), and my grey hunters blocking the wolf guard due to some really bad pod scatter, 15 plasma gun shots and 14 boltgun rounds (with preferred enemy) cause only 2 wounds. Ulrik however shows them how its done by precision shotting the sorceror. The lascannon squad open up on a vindicator, hit with only 2 shots, and rol double 1 for armour pen. The only thing tat reliably works is my deathwind launchers, which instantly make their poitns back by killing 2 plague marines between them. However, despite my appalling shooting, i managed to score 3 victory points through getting lucky card draws! =========== Turn 2 =========== Helldrake fails to come in Bikes move up to secure the centre objective, vindicators edge up the board further, the knight turns round to deal with the drop pod squads. Sorceror fails to do anything in the psychic phase Both vindicators fire at the skyclaw unit, but only manage to kill 3 of them after some impressive going to ground saves! the knight and some plague marines kill 3 terminators, my rune priest, and a couple of grey hunters Knight charged my grey hunter squad, kills 8 of them. --- S.wolves I forget to roll for my 3rd pod (shouldnt have finished off the 8% stout before the second turn methinks) 2 Iron Priests move into charge range of the bike squad (who are sitting on an objective i get a card for)., whilst one moves back onto an objective (that i just got another card for!) The skyclaws stay put, as do the grey hunter unit i have in my deployment zone (they're on an objective....and want nothing to do with that knight). No psychic for me as my rune priest is already dead! Lascannon squad manage to take a couple of hull points off a vindicator. Ulrik and the remaining terminator shoot the back of the nearest vindicator, taking 1 hull point off. I forget to fire my deathwind launchers (stout really kicking in now) In the assault phase, 2 iron priests charge the lord/sorceror bike squad, killing off 4 bikers and the sorceror, and wounding the lord. They lose a couple of wolves and an iron priest takes a wound in reply. The knight continues trying to stomp the grey hunter drop pod unit. However the 2 remaining squaddies obviosuly brought their dancing shoes, as it fails to land a single wound on them. Ulrik charges the vindicator, and crumples it to bits with his corzius. score another couple of victory points for the skycalws objective, and for killing a psyker ====== Turn 3 ====== *disclaimer, this is where things get a little hazy Helldrake fails to come in again The remaining vindicator kills off my skyclaws, a plague marine squad opens up on ulrik and his remaining bodyguard from close range, killing both of them with boltgun fire (although really we all know ulrik was just feigning death what with his strategic genious and all). In combat, the knight finally kills the remaining 2 grey hunters, my iron priests kill off the last bikers and put another wound on the lord, but he kills one of my priests due to me forgetting about look out sir. --- S.Wolves Drop pod fails to come in. My lascannon squad manage to take the last hull point off the second vindicator, and my 3rd iron priest charges into the chaos lord, who (know he has noone to look out sir to) is promplty splattered under a blur of servo arms and thunder hammers. Papa nurgle would probably approve of the mess though. Despite a very short turn, i manage to net a further 4 victory points from having 3 units in my own deployment zone, and taking the objective the bikes were sitting on. ======= Turn 4 ======= The helldrake arrives, and but onyl manages to toast 1 long fang. One squad of plague marines advances up the board in a rhino. The knight advvances up the board, firing at my backfield grey hunters (only killing 3) and stubbering an iron priests. More cyberwolves fall. The knight charges my iron priest and crushes him. Plague marines charge one of my pods and bring it down with krak grenades. --- S.Wolves Drop pod arrives, and uses the locator beacon on the wolf guard pod to land right on the back table edge. They disembark, roll around 17 hits with their shooting, but kill only 1 plague marine (whoever stocked these pods today is either a heretic, or had also been on the stout and packed blanks by mistake). The deathwind launchers on the 2 remaining pods manage to get another kill though. My iron priest runs back onto an objective. Long fangs snap fire at the helldrake, but all miss My home-hugging grey hunters run back of their objective to try and put some distance between them and the knight. I score more points for having previously killed his warlord ====== Turn 5 ====== Roll to see if game ends this turn, it doesnt. Helldrake fries the remaining long fangs, the knight kills some more grey hunters with its melta cannon, and moves towards them. The plague marines try to shoot my melta squad, but have almost as bad shooting as i done the turn previously, and kill only a couple. The other plague marine squad turns around and drives back towards the grey hunters, but manage to cause no wounds due to intervening cover. --- S.wolves My melta grey hunters heroically fall backards (advance??) towards the opponents edge, to get some cover behind their pod. Between them and the two deathwind launchers i manage to kill another couple of plague marines. My last iron priest and his 1 dog charges the knight (id got the 'kill a super heavy' card this turn so thought..hey why not!!). Unfortunately the knight hits with 2 D weapon attacks so crushes them before i have a chance to do anything to it. My home-hugging grey hunters steel themselves for a glorious death at the hands of a helldrake and an imperial knight ===== Turn 6 ===== Roll to see i the game ends, which it does!!! (thank russ!!) Helldrake melts about 5 grey hunters, and the knight kills the rest. The plague marines fail to finish off my grey hunters in their deployment zone. --- S.w. My last 6 grey hunters dance a dance of joy as they claim linebreaker, melta gun a plague marine in the face for good luck, and watch as the deathwind launchers take another Pm down. My remaining forces - 5 grey hunters - 2 drop pods Nurgle remaining forces - Imperial knight (no damage) - Helldrake (no damage) - 2 squads of plague marines (a few wounds done to each) - 2 Rhinos (no damage) but - the all important final score Space Wolves - 15 Forces of Nurgle - 12 OOOFF!! Well it was a seriously fun battle which after my first turns failed shooting/pyschic i was sure i was going to lose. However a bit of lucky objective draws, whilst playing to the objectives rather than for kills, let me seize the day...... Really glad it only went to 6 turns, as otherwise i'd have most likely to lose to a complete wipe. A few firsts for me in this list that id like to give a bit of feedback on. First time using the random obectives - Really good fun, and by playing to the objective i managed to win a battle im 100% sure i would have lost if using the standard missions. First time using iron priests setup this way - Ive used TWC before, but never just IP/CW. The cyberwolves actually proved to be fairly resilient, and provided wounds for the priest to be able to do their business. Also their mobility meant i could jump back and forth between objectives with ease, netting a good few of my points. First time using deathwind launchers - simply awesome. Easily made their points back after killing 5-6 plague marines (despite me forgetting to fire them on turn 2!). First time running pods in 7th - Despite the horrendous first round of shooting, i think pods still win over rhinos which ive used the last few games. Being able to drop in that melta squad where i needed it cos of the locator beacon was also super useful...only thing id maybe change is just getting more pods in there!! FIrst time running lascannons as a full squad - Bit of a points sink i feel, sure they managed to eventually kill a vindicator, but cant help but feel they are underpowered for how much they cost (although may just be unlucky with their dice) First time using ulrik offensively - Last few games ive used him in the backfield sitting amongst lots of heavy weapons. Despite the first turn drop going so badly, id still try reuse this tactic, and even if the rest of his guys failed to perform, he still precision shotted the sorceror and took down a vindicator single handedly First time against a helldrake - Thank russ that it only came in turn 4, i have no anti air whatever, so there was little i could do about it, but it fries power armour like noones business! Anyway, that was a nice ramble, hope you enjoyed the read! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/306058-battle-rep-1850pts-vs-nurgle/ Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
Characters do not have Precision Shots anymore unless they specifically have that rule. Other than that, GJ on your heroic victory ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/306058-battle-rep-1850pts-vs-nurgle/#findComment-4006762 Share on other sites
DanPesci
Ah really! good to know (for next time anyway, although dont think it would have made a huge difference as the sorceror would still take a servo arm to the face next turn) still only a few games into 7th and catching up on a lot of the little changes like this one ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/306058-battle-rep-1850pts-vs-nurgle/#findComment-4006813 Share on other sites
WinteryToast22
Enjoyable read, and always happy to hear of victory for the sons of Russ Shame the Skyclaws did not do much other than objective camp, as I plan on using a squad of 7 with WP and RP very aggressively Interesting use of Ulrik, glad to see the old far can pack a punch outside of PE buffing Also curious, why lascannon heldrake and not try to damage the knight? Are they just too tough to kill? Look forward to reading some more batreps Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/306058-battle-rep-1850pts-vs-nurgle/#findComment-4006909 Share on other sites
Gemini
Very nicely played. It's always VERY difficult to remember 'Play the mission, Play the mission, Play the mission'... If I get the other guy playing to wipe me off the table I like my odds the better and better. I WISH I had a way that was more elegant that checking off every single thing on my army list to make sure I didn't miss firing units and reserve rolls... Well for a 'less than 100pt' unit the skclaws scored 2 victory points, and were part of a 'grab 3 objectives' accomplishment too..so they didnt do too bad at all! I like to keep them small and cheap and use them as a counter-attack/objective jumping unit....i find they just die to shooting anyway, and in combat they need high numbers to do much (back in 5th id run 10 with a priest in apocalypse games). I lascannoned the helldrake cos the knight had all 6 hull points left, was on front facing (13), with its inv shield pointed towards the long fangs......so little chance of doing much to it ey! Whereas if id have scored a lucky hit on the helldrake it would have maybe gone down (or at least jink and not be able to fry my longfangs the next turn!). Haha tell me about it, but thats what you get for playing on friday nights only...after a few stouts....i may not remember that i have drop pods to come in, but i reckon russ would approve :) With the 'almost tabled' Im not sure it was him planning to table me as much as me being willing to sacrifice guys to get VP...but with nothing to take down that knight and the helldrake it was points or nothing!!!
