Their main problem is they are in heavy support, and there is lots of competition for those slots. This book has made them better but it will take some time for people to figure out the best use for them.

My plan is a ceastus assault ram packed with 10 of them. Also taking the RoW where all terminators get deep strike might be interesting.

I liked them before and even more now. I'm trying to build my deathguard fluffy and fun. Don't really care about winning(tho wouldn't mind if I do haha).. Trying to build a nice balanced 2k list.

I mostly plan to footslog across the battlefield and rain phosphex death for cover

They're basically quadmortars in cataphractii with powerfists and insane orver that score and force disordered charges.

The only reason they are heavy IMO is because of the sheer OPness that they would be in a troops choice of pride.

I'm planning to run an all Terminator pro team with shattered Legions Iron Warriors :D

Only minor-ish downside is that they take up a heavy support slot.

This is the biggest problem with Grave Wardens. That and their weaponry doesn't really lend itself well to Heavy Support... I was hoping they'd be moved to Elites, alas that was not done.

I think they can work in the reaping, as you get the HSS in troops to make up for the lost heavy slots.

It's when you want artillery and then like a Sicaran Venator that everything suddenly comes crashing down.

Though you can get anti-tank etc elsewhere light a lightning or Grav Speeders in the FA slot.

Hey guys,

Can anyone give an example of a Reaping list at 2.5k? Everything I come up with just seems deficient in a key area, whether it be AP2 death star killing, anti-air or anti-tank. Ideally I'd love to include:

* Deathshroud

* Grave Wardens and Typhon. Typhon is probably my favorite HH model!

* Volkite Culverin HS Squad

* Tac blobs (15 men + Apothecary).

I know some of these aren't the most efficient units ever, but I think they fit the theme of the DG perfectly. Here's something I thought up this morning:

Death Guard The Reaping 2500 (2500pts)
Legiones Astartes: Crusade Army List (Age of Darkness)
  • HQ
    • Calas Typhon
      • Master of the Legion

        The Reaping

    • Legion Centurion

Artificer Armour, Deathshroud Power Scythe, Melta Bombs, Refractor Field

      • Consul

        Siege Breaker

  • Troops
    • Legion Heavy Support Squad

9x Legion Space Marines, Volkite Culverin

      • Legion Sergeant

        Artificer Armour, Rad Grenades

    • Legion Heavy Support Squad

9x Legion Space Marines, Missile Launchers

      • Legion Sergeant

        Artificer Armour, Rad Grenades

    • Legion Tactical Squad

14x Legion Tactical Space Marines, Legion Vexilla, Take an additional Chainsword or Combat Blade

      • Legion Tactical Sergeant

Artificer Armour, Deathshroud Power Scythe, Melta Bombs, Rad Grenades

    • Legion Tactical Squad

14x Legion Tactical Space Marines, Legion Vexilla, Take an additional Chainsword or Combat Blade

      • Legion Tactical Sergeant

Artificer Armour, Deathshroud Power Scythe, Melta Bombs, Rad Grenades

  • Heavy Support
    • Deredeo Pattern Dreadnought

      Aiolos Missile Launcher

    • Grave Warden Terminator Squad

      Chainfist, 4x Grave Warden Terminator

      • Legion Spartan Assault Tank

        Armoured Ceramite, Flare Shield

    • Legion Sicaran Battle Tank

      Lascannons

  • Legion
    • Legion Astartes

      Traitor, XIV: Death Guard

Things I wish this list had:

1. Deathshroud. Due to points constraints I feel it is either/or with Deathsroud and Grave Wardens, especially once you factor a delivery system and character in.

2. Quad Guns with Shatter and Phosphex.

3. Sicaran Venator

Any thoughts on how to improve it? I could save points by dropping the GW's for Deathshroud x4 + Typhon in a Phobos instead of the Spartan, which might allow me to include some Quad Guns.

OK take 2 has a few changes. It doesn't have the culverin HS squad but does have a Venator and phosphex Quad Guns:

      • Master of the Legion

        The Reaping

    • Legion Centurion

Artificer Armour, Deathshroud Power Scythe, Melta Bombs, Refractor Field

I've found at 2.5k the reaping has to make some real sacrifices to get everything on your wishlist - as it's the same as mine!

3k though, it really opens up. Those extra points let you get in some extra dudes and an extra terminator squad or couple of tanks or HSS :D

At that level though I feel the best option is Mortarion instead of Typhon but keep a Siege Breaker. He really ups the threat and mobility in the reaping, being our fastest thing on the land.

Sicaran Venator becomes even more important too for shutting down Typhon tanks and other big nasty LoW before they mop up your tasty infantry. Or you can go for a Lightning with your single FA slot. Or both!

Couple of quick questions - grateful for any thoughts:

Zone Mortalis - if I take Deathshroud as the Hq, what does that mean for Warlord or RoW? Indeed, can the latter be taken in ZM if I have a Praetor anyway?

Using Creeping Death; the save proffered is just treated as a cover save isn't it? I don't have the book to hand but I just wanted to query that!

Might share my list thinking later too - liking the tinkering exsanguis!

ZM: Deathshroud can be your HQ, you'd just choose one of them to be the warlord. They do not have master of the legion so you couldn't take a RoW with just them. Of course they can be taken in ZM with a Preator. They can be his retinue, another HQ choice or an elites choice. Even troops in pride of the legion!

Creeping Death: it is indeed a cover save. Flat 5+, so can be improved by stealth / shrouded from Vigilator or dread pods etc.

Thanks Charlo, appreciated!

Any thoughts on whether that's worth it in ZM, or if a RoW would be more beneficial in an enclosed space? I guess it's somewhat dependent on the list of course. I was just trying to fit in more Terminators in my 1500pt limit!

Pride of the Legion RoW.

Terminator Troops (generic and deathshroud) and Heavy Support (Grave Wardens).

Deathshroud hand flamers get +1S since they already have Shred thanks to chem munitions (as would the Grave Wardens Heavy Flamer). All other template weapons (Frag from the Warden Launchers, iirc) gain Shred.

This is my standard ZM force (minus Grave Wardens, replaced with Contemptors) as well as Primus Medicae added in Terminator units to provide FNP. Anything with Chem Flamers becomes that much more frightening in the Corridors of Death, and Terminators are frighteningly efficient. It certainly doesn't hurt that our Legion traits lend themselves well to ZM... Jump Pack Destroyers / Moritat work great as well due to our ability to re-roll Dangerous Terrain.

My current debate is whether to go for Terminator or Breacher heavy - I use the latter so infrequently, and I'm just wondering whether that added weight in numbers at close quarters would be more beneficial over Terminators (whether generic or of the Deathshroud).  But, that said - it's something like 35 to 43 models comparatively, which isn't a massive drop for the benefit of Terminators...

Breachers with Chem Flamers. Sarge with AA and Powerscythe.

Attach a Forgelord with Rad nades, scythe and servo arm.

Attach apothecary with powersword.

Watch as the enemy dissipates on your wall of checmial death and shields.

Why not a Delegatus with the Reaping in ZM? Its not so much an Alternate FoC as it is an Alternate Game Mode so I dont see the problem with using RoWs especially since we have a ZM Specific one now.

Would save you on the Forge Lords cost and you'd be able to give everything Rad Grenades.

Also then lets you take Chem Heavy Flamer HSS Squads as Troops.
