Greetings brothers,

Just a small, textual update. I have built the remaining four infiltrators. I am going out of town this weekend, but they will be painted early next week :D

Furthermore, if there is any possibility of anyone having an extra set of the mechanicum car decals, please contact me. I have just been made aware of their existence and would like to add them to my mode of transport.

Greetings Brothers of the Cog Mechanicus,

The Biologis temple has completed it's first work, a unit of Sicarian Infiltrators. Fresh recruits are being processed into rangers and vanguard as this data is transmitted.

I enquire as to your opinions on the results of the Magos Biologis' Ministrations and eagerly await reply.

Yours in service,

The colour combination is ok. But to be honest,  from these pictures I cannot get a honest result of your fine work.

The white, however, looks like it could use some shades. Seraphim sepia is a good solution, if you high light with white again over it of course.

I often do shades on white by getting very light grey on my brush then dipping it very quickly in the water pot and painting it on like a wash. It can be tricky to control and might be better mixing with lahmian medium on a palate instead but lahmian medium wasn't around when i first tried this. That way i get pale grey shadows on my white rather than brown.

The First of the regular infantry walks. Skitarii Ranger Alpha Vettaric I/IV has been completed, with his compatriots in progress. Photos show him, the sicarians in a different light, and the full painted force-so-far.

The Ryza orange coats look nice an clean. Your getting nice shades and highlights on them.

I wish I could see some more depth in the white cloth, as you have done with the orange.

White is a hard colour to use, but training makes practice.

There are two ways I could recommend to get some shades.

You could either go for a "warm" shade or a "cold" shade.

Warm shade would include using seraphim sepia, followed by one or two layers of white (watered down a lot!).

A cold shade would be with a blueish shade, and then of course followed by white layers.

Looking at your white areas, it looks like you have used grey as an undercoat, thus a cold shade might be the option for you?

Actually, the process for my white is thus:

Black primer

rakarth flesh basecoat - more of a tan then grey, but could be considered grey i guess

whych flesh layer, watered down.

I'm using sepia on the orange, do you think i should go for contrast with blue or nuln oil?

On the white, never black/nuln oil. It is to strong.

But its true what you say. going with blue will create a strong contrast. Personally I would go with sepia to keep the colours in balance and harmony with each other.

Very important with white is that you have thin and even layers before you add the shade. With thick and uneven layers, this will be enhanced and give a sloppy appearance. 6

Perhaps earthshade? or would that just make it look dirty do you think?

More of an earth shade I would say yes.

But take a look at my Grey Knights picture log (in my signature). On those white Grey Knights I spray white, shaded with Seraphim sepia, then one or two watered down layers of white.

I see. to maintain continuity, i will experiment with such shading on the new squad - the first of my vanguard squads) which I will be beginning tonight or tomorrow.

  1. The arc rifle's power pack is supposed to be yellow. my reasoning was the arc rifle essentially fires concentrated electricity, hence yellow bolts. Plasma, traditionally in my armies, is blue, and all plasma cavaliers will have blue.

Looking good there. I do like the arc rifles colour. It will be different from most of us standard guys :D

But it looks like your getting some pooling of shade on the coats bottom. While the effect is nice, pay attention to it so it doesn't pool up to much.

Your bases have a good amount of cracks, thumbs up on that. Mine are a tad to much... I'll try to tone it down a bit.

Will keep an eye out.

Seen the new robots in Ryza colours yet? I'm thinking it's one of the best official schemes for them so far.

I have, but i think it needs to be a tone darker, and I dislike the lack of bronze.

Nice.

Though I would paint the gloves in a different colour form the rifle stock.

Also I would suggest agree earth shade over the whole weapon except for the blue areas. On the blue areas I would either base with white and use a blue shade, or shade what you have now with 'Darkenhoff night shade'.

The "gloves" are metal as i thought they represented bionics.

Will do on the washes.

Greetings fellow Magi,

I come to a crossroads. The new cult mechanicus figures are out and I am about ready to make an additional order for my mechanicus army.

my original plan was to buy a box of skitarii troops and a dunecrawler.

However, a new option has presented itself, namely a box of skitarii troops and a box of kataphrons.

either that, or kastellans instead of the kataphrons

I would solicit my fellow magi for their data-streams (thoughts) on this matter.
