+++E Tenebrae Lux IV - Blood Angels Strategium+++

Thanks Maru! I'm telling you an airbrush REALLY helps. Hand painting white is tough...I've messed up more than my fair share.  Getting it to the correct consistency is damn near impossible; it either is too thin and runs or is too thick and glops everywhere

Time remaining until the ETL IV closes:

Folks, it seems like an age, but now is not the time to be complacent. Everyone needs to dig deep and to start churning out the vows. It's all about the completions and keeping things ticking over now.

Remember, your entry is only complete when you feel it is. If you're waiting to do bases at a later date, then don't fret over doing them for the ETL. If you gaming group only requires three base colours for your entry to become playable, then only go that far if you're comfortable with it. Just don't overdo it and keep up the amazing work :)

I realize I am new to the forum and ETL, but don't the rules of the contest state we are to paint to the best of our ability?

People at my local have so little regard for painting that I could call them complete now... Half basecoated.

Right? like everyone looks like they play the same army....sprue plastic

Rules? No. However, from the Spirit of the ETL section:

An important thing to remember is that this is an opportunity to develop your skills, asking and giving advice and generally improve your painting regardless of your skill level. What I mean is DO NOT COMPROMISE your skill – it’s better to do a smaller vow painted to the best of your ability than double the points with a sub-par job (according always to your own personal standards of which you are the only judge). A good example of that is basing. The fact that doing bases is not compulsory in the ETL is for the benefit of those who do not yet posses the skill of doing proper basing and I don’t want them to feel excluded – not in any way! If however you do posses the skill and you will not consider the model complete unless you base it then it is expected that you do base it. I want people to look at their minis and proudly say: “look, I did this during the ETL” instead of “look what that stupid ETL made me do”…. We encourage quality over quantity if it comes down to that choice.

You can hopefully see what I'm getting at. If your local is that bad unmotivated, then paint your army with pride and know you've already won a victory when you use them! Hopefully, this will rub off on others :)

With my other points and to use myself as an example, my models only need to have three colours and be based in order for them to be useable for my group's annual Apocalypse. However, I will be shading them and doing the detail, but I will fall short on doing the highlights and varnishing. The reason for this is because my time is so limited (I'll be surprised if I can manage a third vow), that I'm trying to optimise my time as best I can.

I would never ask anyone to cheat, but I am suggesting methods to stop people becoming stressed and to optimise their time so that their points are not turned into penalty points at the end of the event should they not complete their vows.

Do the best you can. If you would not consider the model finished to your usual standards, don't say it's complete.

The Custos Fidei is only worth it if you're proud of your results.

Thanks cupcake (heh)! The bases are really really easy.  You just need some cork board ($5 at hobby lobby for a roll).  I tear mine into two shapes, glue and stack.  Then I base coat in red-brown, give a targeted wash of agrax earthshade on the edges and the very center, brush some dark earth pigment (secret weapon minis) on, then some violet pigment in the center where I want the shadow to be, glue the marines, then brush some pigment on the boots.  Took all of 30-40 minutes for the whole bunch.

Hey guys, apologies for the delay in cracking out a 2nd vow, (the usual warp related disturbances). Whilst not preparing the second vow I still managed some hobby and finished off these boys below, if only they weren't too far along to vow at the beginning (click the button -  if it works :S) After seeing all the awesome painted models figured I best get moving and put out the next vow, see below.

Anyway cheers for looking.

Peace.

Sorry for the additional post but if anyone has recommendations for further gear on the priest on bike or Cap on bike I could amend the post and model it on to the miniature and squeeze a few more points in. Preferably something useful too tho ;P

Peace
