+++E Tenebrae Lux IV - Realm of Chaos Strategium+++

Recommended Posts

Excellent stuff guys - just excellent! The Chaos team seems to be going from strength to strength - but careful, your rivals are also building up their efforts! Keep going!

UPDATED TO THIS POINT!

Out of likes already this morning so you'll have to make do with a written one Carrick. Like.

I got in a similar place with the bloodthirster. End up going back over again and again. In the end I basically gave up with the black horns and just left it as it was. I can always go back later if I figure it out. Are the horn things bone? I always struggled with that with my Beastmen. I preferred the ones with ridges as you could just lightly over brush with a lighter colour and it was pretty much sorted. With the smooth ones I could never get happy (dream goal are the lovely perfect stripes/triangle things). I ended up just drybrushing the horn tips with a lighter colour.

Anyway, even at this point just try and enjoy it. I may be going against team chaos with this but make sure you get something you're happy with.

Edit: I plan on doing a daily photo update every evening. Started Khorne redding the bloodletters and painting the Maulerfiend base before work.

Thanks for the kind words. I agree about the horns, the ridged ones are easy to get done and perfect for drybrushing. My problem was going from a primed black to a bone white. In hindsight they would have looked better with several coats of thin white rather than a few thick ones. Or maybe a coat of a brighter white before I started in with the Ubashti Bone. Overall though I don't mind the thicker coats on the smooth horns because real horns are rarely symmetrical things of beauty. A wash of earthshade helps too. I just have to clean up the areas where the bone meets the black armor. Which leads me to my update...

I got an hour of painting in with only a few interruptions. What I have left to do is go back with black and fix mistakes, a Nuln oil wash on the chrome, green stuff my special touch to the dangling chains, and base. Speaking of bases, my overall scheme is tundra / snowy ruins to fit my home battlefield (still wip). I recently bought a jar of white pumice, that stuff is awesome! I can't wait to use it to make more dynamic poses for infantry. My goal is to get the rest done tomorrow night and let the pumice and green stuff set for a couple of hours and complete my first ETL.

I, lfhoule, do declare that my vow is done (finally...):

Don't dare try for another vow, so.... when do I get my cookies??happy.png

So off on my jollies for a few days, let's offer a bit more to the rot!

Vow 4:

I, Chaeron, rise to the challenge of E TENEBRAE LUX and vow to complete the following, drawn from Codex Chaos Space Marines:

5 Havocs with Plasma Guns, Champion with Plasma Pistol, Mark of Nurgle, Veterans of the Long War - 170pts

5 Havocs with Plasma Guns, Champion with Plasma Pistol, Mark of Nurgle, Veterans of the Long War - 170pts

Sorcerer with Mark of Nurgle - 75pts

Cypher - 190pts

...of total value 605pts on or before August 1st, 2015. Success will bring eternal glory to Nurgle and the Chaos forum: failure will doom me to bear the Badge of the Oathbreaker until the year-end.

NB: I've really, really wanted to paint the Volkites - given I have ten, one in each will double as a Champion with Plasma Pistol. Let me know if that's an issue Captain! If not, I'm sure I've got someone who could double. As ever, if anyone spots and issues, do please shout.

I would've vowed my last ten metal Plaguebearers to be painted in this vow too - although I've seemingly mislaid two of them, and I don't have time until Friday/Saturday to build and spray two plastic ones to replace them. I think I'd be cutting it too fine, even by my standards! I'll just have to deal with them at another point. I'll have a few spare plastic ones anyway with my planned conversions for future anyway...

This vow is now all packed in a lovely tin, ready to go on an adventure!

Chaeron!!!!! DUUUUUUUUUUUDE four days before the deadline and you're wowing some of the coolest footsloggers I've seen. I love those helmets. You better deliver, buddy! ;) Looking forward to seeing them painted. :)

@lfhoule: congrats on your finish and what a lovely bunch of models there. Also: I like your name. ;)

Hey, now where have I seen those heads before....

Have you used them? I loved them visually for ages, so happy to finally use them on something. Gives me ten space resin heads for future too ^_^

Cheers bud! I hope I won't disappoint. Hopefully finish these by Thursday night, and then something small to finish with for a full five vows.

@Chaeron - nice work on the finished Nurgle!

But does, anyone look at its prepainted state and think mmmmmm..... cake, lol?

Quick bit of progress: base on the metals, straps, innards and bone done:

Washing to be done now!

Great to see lots of those retro models getting love lfhoule, looking good!

Thanks, and while I'm not going to risk the completed points by trying a second vow, I'm seriously looking at participating in Call of Chaos, and you may be seeing more of the 3rd  Ed. 'nettes and seekers in the mix.

Is it possible that I can pull out of my vow? I've tried taking photos on my crappy camera phone (no proper camera as of yet) and its a blurry mess. Only 165pts, but I'm still sad I can't put up something... :'(

Crappy photos are perfectly acceptable for completion purposes as long as we can see that it is in fact painted. That being said, when you can, please show us better pics.

I will almost certainly get the spawn done today (except for maybe basing). I should get a good chunk of the bloodthirster done today if not everything done on it. Plus I should be able to assemble and prime vow 5. (assuming I can find him....)

FINISH LINE APPROACHING!!!!

Right, last nights photo update.

Bloodletter champion (at the front) needs some work on the head. Used the head from Wrathmongers and realised while basecoating he had a big hole in his head and no jaw.

Cheers. Bronze with fleshwash. Previously I've used a brass with black wash for a real dirty smokey look and wanted to do it differently. The colour is based on my late grandfathers brass weights from when he was green grocer.

On to the soul destroying job of doing the trim in steel. Worst bit is it doesn't look much different from the brass at first but I've got experience with the bikes to know just to persevere. One down, 7 to go.
