Lesser Knight House Volt

Although House Volt is the most powerful and influential Knight House on Bulle, they are nevertheless a lesser house with a total compliment of Knights numbering less than thirty. The history of House Volt lies intricately entwined with the fortunes of the Adeptus Mechanicus, especially that of the forge world of Tolkhan to which the Houses of Bulle are pledged.

Displaying the traditional lightning bolts and griffon insignia from long before the House allied itself to the Adeptus Mechanicus, House Volt proudly stalks the battlefields of the Segmentum Tempestus in the name of their ancestors and, at least these days, the Omnissiah.

Home planet

Bulle, lying four lights years from Tolkhan, can comfortably count itself as a Mechanicus demesne. The influence of the Machine-God here is blatant for all to see and the Imperial Creed has little grasp over the hearts of the locals. In the past this has led to strife, especially during the Age of Apostasy but since the 38th millennium the number of practitioners of the Imperial Creed on Bulle has become all but a fraction of the populace, vocal though they may be.

The north of the main continent, a cold and inhospitable realm, is the land owned by House Cymond. With barely a dozen machines to its name, the sable and orange of Cymond stands proud in every township, defiant of Volt bravado. When the call to war comes, the scions of Cymond will gladly answer the call as long as it is made by the Mechanicus. Should House Volt ever call on them for support, it is unlikely that this rival House would walk any Knights to their aid.

The south, known as Kingsland, belongs to House Volt. Here the weather is much kinder, allowing the growth of wine-fruit. Servitor-picked and casked for a decade or more, the export of Volt wines and liquors swell their coffers. House Volt enjoys riches House Cymond cannot - a fact that Volt uses to taunt Cymond often. The bad blood between the Houses is on a knife-edge as of late. Should anything untoward happen, chances are the Houses would go to war - a war that House Cymond might not survive.

The isles to the west of Kingsland are home to the smallest House on Bulle – House Roulant. Five Knights belong to the red and yellow of Roulant, each and every one fiercely loyal to their own patriarch – Lord De Harivand. De Harivand has washed his hands of the spat between Cymond and Volt, instead speaking only to Mechanicus mediators and ambassadors. Roulant is pledged to the current fabricator-general of Tolkhan, one certain Umbre Kelphi-Nine.

Name of its Founder

Lord Hephastus Volt, arisen during the time of the Great Crusade, took control of the world of Bulle and it's compliment of stored Knight chassis, long since dormant after the previous incumbents fell to contagion, or so legend tells. Over the course of his two-hundred year life Lord Volt saw the Heresy come and go, the Scouring flash across the galaxy and even the relatively minor forge world of Tolkhan receive attention from the machine priesthood - elevating the footnote of the sector to a major holding in the wake of the destruction of the other Mechanicus holding Quartica.

Notable characters

Lord Kallahan-Volt

Known for his harsh nature and his utter devotion to furthering the cause of House Volt, Lord Kallahan-Volt has all but alienated his holding from the other two Houses on Bulle. Although Kallahan-Volt is less than adept at diplomacy, he and House Volt enjoys the favour of the Tolkhan priesthood.

Lord De Harivand

Head of the Knight House Roulant, De Harivand has come to the conclusion that the cloak and dagger games of Bulle are simply not worth pursuing. Favouring the Mechanicus and their eschewing of the flesh, he has accrued augmetics and bionic enhancements over his life, looking more like a tech-priest than a Knight pilot.

History

House Volt was established during the Great Crusade, and was largely left out of the great battles of the era. Excepting their involvement with the Fall of Quartica, House Volt can claim but a few wars in the name of the Emperor.

Over the course of the House's history the Knights have walked to war on uncountable occasions notably siding with the Mechanicus during the Age of Apostasy, much to the chagrin of the Ecclesiarcy.

Notable conflicts

The Fall of Quartica - The first major battle for the House was also the most significant for them during the entire Horus Heresy, bringing the world into ruin for siding with the rebel warmaster.

The Moirae Schism - Led by the last of the direct line of descendants of Lord Volt, the Moirae Schism saw a major shift in alignment in House Volt. From being an Imperial House to a Mechanicus House, the changes were far from bloody as rights were invoked and the threat of reprisal by Tolkhan kept pretenders to the throne from trying to take it for themselves, leaving one Cassander Kallahan-Volt and his sons as the rightful heirs from then until the present day.

Edit - I'm cutting it fine here. Hopefully I can edit in information before the deadline.

I like the heraldry.

Thanks. I pilfered it from an American unit. I would have preferred it if the heraldry wasn't a vector image though. Those bolts looked better white. confused.gif
