The XIII Legion, Ultramarines

Recommended Posts

hey guys,

So while i wait for my order, i was thinking of getting a headstart on Lamiads "stump" arm. Does anyone have any tips on how to do this? I was thinking of maybe puting some wires in the end of the arm, but other then that im not sure on how to achive a realistic looking effect.

I was going to keep this idea for my iron hands, but I could pass it onto you. There are some really nice bionic arms you could cut in shreds with guitar wire hanging out.

Then you have the marine hold what's the discard parts with his good arm and beat some traitors to death with it!

Im not sure lamiad ever had a bionic arm, i think after his real arm was cut off, he left it like that. Or do you mean use the bionic arm to represent a wounded arm?

Ah! I thought his arm was a bionic, never mind the mad ramblings.

No worries! But since you are the modelling king, any other suggestions on a wounded arm?

If you have any going spare, the little round pieces above the barrel of a boltgun could be carefully sliced off and glued onto the stump to represent the broken ends of the radius and ulna sticking out - or, for a cleaner cut, do that and paint the ends white to represent the bones, then use something like greenstuff to fill out a "disc" around them to represent the tissue.

For an upper-arm amputation, use the actual boltgun barrel for the humerus.

love it!

If you are doing him mid battle of Calth, yeah he will have a stump sticking out, which you can do with plasticard rods. Anytime after that, he would have the bionic in place.

in the story CALTH that was, lamiad chose not get a bionic arm.....he's a badass!

Now those iron hands on the other hand....

Now that is cute. It is so attached to the weakness of flesh that it passes up on a free upgrade. FREE UPGRADE!

he didn't want to have to oil his arm every other day! :D

Use a blob of blue tac or the yellow portion of Green Stuff to hold the pack in pack, dry fit the pads, push the pack forward until full contact is made with the armor. This will push the pads into a position where they can sit on the model with all the pieces in place. Be careful to check for awkward gaps and angles, such as the pad looking correct from the front but splayed out wards when you see the back.

Also, the nature of resin is going to require you to alter some parts. In this case you need to get everything positioned and then heat the arms with a hair dryer to bend them in a way that doesn't mess with the pad. Alternatively a little shaving on the eagle.

The Suzerains are tricky to build, one of the toughest infantry kits to assemble correctly. If you try to pose them very differently from the pictures on the site it gets trickier also.

Try to fit the pack in place and apply glue to places it makes contact. Once sprayed and painted it looks good.

I left off the beautiful eagle pads and replaced them with mk II or III pads, as I glued the backpacks before the shoulderpads and couldn't fit the overly ornate ones. Those models are also the reason I pay a friend to build all my FW stuff now. It drove me crazy.

Edited for readability. ..
