ForgeWorld Ultramarines Legion Paint Recipe

Recommended Posts

Brothers and sisters, I managed to get a response from FW regarding the below paint scheme:

The response itself:

Hi [NAME REDACTED],

I've attached the colour scheme for you to take a look at. Please be aware that most of the techniques used involved an airbrush and several of the colours aren't available from the main Games Workshop range.

Thanks

BLUE

Over a Chaos Black undercoat use a base coat of Magragge Blue either with an airbrush or by hand.

Shade with watered down Kantor Blue mix.

Highlight stage 1 – Macragge Blue.

Highlight/blend stage 2 – Caledor Sky/Macragge Blue in a 25/75 mix.

Highlight/blend stage 3 – Caledor Sky/Macragge Blue in a 50/50 mix.

Highlight/blend stage 4 – Caledor Sky/Macragge Blue in a 75/25 mix.

Use a light glaze of Guilleman Blue.

Finally edge highlight with Caledor Sky and then Teclis Blue.

GOLD

Use a basecoat of Balthazar Gold.

Highlight/blend stage 1 – Blend the Balthazar Gold to Hashut Copper.

Highlight/blend stage 2 – Blend to Auric Armour Gold.

Highlight/blend stage 3 – Blend to Valejo Air Range Gold and then edge highlight with this colour.

Wash with thinned Aggrax Earthshade and then shade with Drucchi Violet.

Highlight/blend stage 2 – Blend to Runefang Steel.

Nice recipe - I do like how FW is quite open with their painting techniques, though I admit I'm not a huge fan of their Ultra scheme. I prefer lighter Ultramarines - akin to the cyan/sky blue of the Ultramarines in the Space Marine videogame, but it's nice seeing how they do their very proficient schemes are produced. The Alpha Legion one in particular is quite "out there" in particular.

Yeah, FW seems a lot easier going on that front, they even dont mind the fact that they are technically promoting foreign brands of paints and such in place of their own or GW, but so long as you get what you want. For that they definitely have my respect! I also happen to be a big fan of their AL scheme!

They must have changed it from a few months back when i emailed them..wish i could find the email....had mostly non games workshop paints *cough* MINITAIRE *cough*

Well done for posting it up though Relict :-)

Haha. If you do stumble across the recipe please post it up!
