Hellrender
After looking at the FW night lord blue, i have been thinking on how to apply this to bigger surfaces. Do you think it would work? here is the tutorial for it: NIGHT LORDS COLOUR SCHEME1. The models were undercoated with GW Black Spray2. The models were dry brushed with Rub and Buff Pewter, bringing the black undercoat upto a silver colour.3. Tamaiya Clear Blue and Clear Red were mixed together to make a clear purple which was applied over the whole model in 3-4 very thin coats.4. Once the model had dried, the whole thing was airbrushed with a layer of Auto Air colour Transparent Blue.5. The Lightning strikes were painted on with Administratum Grey as a base coat. Then were the lightning strikes meet, it was highlighted with white.6. Once the model had dried, it was protected with a coating of GW Purity Seal. Step 2, could that be done with a simple 2 layer (dark and lighter) normal metal drybrush? Millicant
If you want to avoid the Rub n Buff (which is actually quite nice) I would advocate a regular airbrush coat of metallic paint - skip drybrushing altogether. Not for Night Lords but another metallic Legion color, I used a base color of Ironbreaker (GW) and a zenithal highlight of Chrome (Vallejo). Hellrender
I'm not against rub n buff, it's just that i'm not familiar with it. I have also no clue as to how such a technique works on large smooth surfaces, as in knight plates. Emperors Teeth
I have the same feeling about large surfaces and rub n buff. I don't doubt I could get it on but the quality of coating is in question. I'm switching up to Tamiya Gun Metal & maybe a highlight of Tamiya Flat Aluminum for anything larger than a Rapier. Millicant
It works quite well, but I can't vouch for very large surfaces. I could try it for you, if you like. I don't have a model to test but I could use the smooth surface of a box or something. That being said, it is probably easier for large surfaces to use an airbrush. Hellrender
I just really like the way the FW night lords look, but now i'm looking at how to use that on a Knight. Is it just a drybrush followed by thin layers of clear blue/red? I guess this can be done with both aibrush and normal brush? Balthamal
Might be worth emailing FW to see how useful their paint range is with a brush rather than an airbrush since that's pretty much the colour it's supposed to come out like. I've not seen any results yet though so it's debatable Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308577-forgeworld-night-lord-colours/#findComment-4069519 Share on other sites
