Marshal Loss
Is +1Invuln and Slow and Purposeful worth Losing Run and Overwatch (and maybe something else I'm forgetting)? Slow and purposeful no more I believe I've seen tartaros rules in an imperial armour book but memory fails me where. As for the debate - tartaros for ec, cataphractii for iron warriors. Rule of cool ahoy! When he made that post they still had SnP, this thread got necro'd Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308854-tartaros-vs-cataphractii/page/2/#findComment-4551657 Share on other sites
jeremy1391
If you play imperial fists and are running storm shield terminators I would go with tartoros because they can sweep! Stick a unit of ten with Dorn in a spartan and wreck face! K3nn3rs
^Agreed - by chance does have anyone have the wording & reference of the old red book that allowed Tartaros to take storm shields? Slips
^Agreed - by chance does have anyone have the wording & reference of the old red book that allowed Tartaros to take storm shields? Its because Tartaros, before, was just Terminator Armour. Then they recently (this year) made it it's own unique suit in 30k by giving it a name and the ability to Sweep.  Ergo, previously, where there was no distinction between generic Terminator Armour and Tartaros, their use was interchangeable. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308854-tartaros-vs-cataphractii/page/2/#findComment-4553875 Share on other sites
Nusquam
Ahh so it's possibly just old rules copied and pasted. That makes more sense. Being RG I like Tartaros. Being able to sweep is great. Running in ZM was pretty great too. In larger games they'll always have a transport of some sort. Blindhamster
Tartaros should be the go to for imperial fists using storm shields Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308854-tartaros-vs-cataphractii/page/2/#findComment-4554899 Share on other sites

ShadowCore67
It depends on what you're using them for. If you plan on sending them into a massive plob of marines, use tartarous so they can sweep. If you want them to take on a more elite unit with AP2, cataphractii are better. Â And they both look pretty cool IMO :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308854-tartaros-vs-cataphractii/page/2/#findComment-4555010 Share on other sites
BLACK BLÅ’ FLY
You really can't go wrong with Cataprachtii armor... A 4++ is almost twice as good as a 5++ . Captain Idaho
Agreed. Sweeping is handy and all, but so is surviving ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308854-tartaros-vs-cataphractii/page/2/#findComment-4557693 Share on other sites
Nusquam
It's all about the right tools for the job. Tartaros for going after line troops, Cataphractii for elites and tough nuts like automata. Captain Idaho
See, in my mind there are better tools for most Legions than Tartaros Terminators against line Troops. Talking about assault I'd go with Invictarus Suzerain in my Ultramarines if I want dedicated heavy assault. Â I'm sure other Legions would feel the same. Gorgoff
Usability of Terminators in general depends highly on the Legion you play. Some have such great special ones that you don't need them at all, while others have awesome special rules for them. So in my book you can't just say 'Terminators are awesome. Buy one hundred' because that is not true at all. Â Maybe we should always meantion which Legion we rock and then come to the 'awesome' ideas how to field which type of Tactical Dreadnought Armour. Charlo
Maybe we should always meantion which Legion we rock and then come to the 'awesome' ideas how to field which type of Tactical Dreadnought Armour. Â Good idea. OP or mod could edit the front page to be a list of legions and then quote stuff under each that people say? Â Death Guard: Deathshroud are basically better legion terms in every way and very verstile in slots they take up. Grave Wardens are an incredible anchor unit and can wipe out anything not in void-hardened armour thanks to a million templates. Forcing disordered charges and all overwatching with heavy flamers is awesome, but they take up a Heavy Support slot... Normal Legion terms don't really have a place other than getting some combi's in. Captain Idaho
I'd suggest making a specific "Terminator use in a Legion" thread since this thread has been specifically about Tartaros and Cataphractii armour. Blindhamster
Except the rules don't allow :pI doubt you'd get told that at an event. I also doubt anyone would actually say 'no' except for those players that pride themselves on spoiling things. Tartaros armour is still a varient of terminator armour afterall. Terminus
The rules are pretty clear and may be intentional to prevent the perfect trifecta of 2+/3++ and sweeping. I'd let you play them as variant indomitus, so no sweeping. Talking about assault I'd go with Invictarus Suzerain in my Ultramarines if I want dedicated heavy assault. Â I'm sure other Legions would feel the same. Â The thing is that Tartaros are a choice. Might not be the best choice, but they are one. And if you're going to use them for something, what would they do well at? Tanking on their 2+ and being able to sweep. SO they would do well against troop blobs; Lot's of AP- attacks, the occasional AP2, and then finish the blob off with a sweep where a cataphractii would have let them walk. Â There's probably a better unit for that in every scenario, but I try to avoid writing a unit off as flat bad. Perry
If you are using them as a troop removal unit, Lightning claws would probably be a good choice, strike at same time as regular troops and shred with extra ap3 attacks  I got my Tartaros unit armed with, plasma blaster, 2 chainfists, 2 powerfist and one set of twin Lightning claws. It's more of a multi-purpose unit. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308854-tartaros-vs-cataphractii/page/2/#findComment-4560790 Share on other sites
Terminus
Honestly if you're playing against someone dropping tactical blobs, you're already in an advantageous position because they brought a weak list. Unless those blobs are Inductii, in which case they will be picking their teeth with the shredded remains of your Tartaros terminators in a round or two.
