THE STORY

Rich in iridium deposits, the mining world of Merron is a valuable resource for the Imperium. When a company of Doom Eagles arrives to take over garrison duties from the Flesh Tearers, they find the locals completely traumatised by their contact with these savage warriors. As civil unrest spreads and rumours fly, the Doom Eagles are forced to investigate exactly what manner of evil is preying on the people of Merron.

READ IT BECAUSE

As well as providing insights into the nihilistic, death-obsessed Doom Eagles Space Marines, this story shows the terror that the Flesh Tearers inspire in not only their foes, but their allies. With bloodthirsty and savage friends like them, who needs enemies…?

Anyone interested in this... cover is a little misleading as this is a Doom Eagles short with the Flesh Tearers as background characters... (or so it seems from the blurb)

Can anyone tell me is this is worth getting for an "all-things-blood-angely" enthusiast?

Herald,

It's an old story, was in the Book of Blood. It is from the Doom Eagles PoV and their perceptions toward the Flesh Tearers. Left a spoiler type review below but on phone- unable to use the tags. Wouldn't say its a must read but ok

Doom Eagles arrive, find civilians terrified. People disappearing, bodies found exsanguinated. Doom Eagles talk about the rumours attached to BA and their descendants about eating flesh, Black Rage gets a mention. Slight sense of tension when both chapters meet up. A further disappearance leads to the DE searching of the sewers, find a cultist with a replica of red coloured power armour. The final comments of the tale are from the DE captain to the DE sergeant are that some of the corpses had different types of wounds to others, made by human hands and teeth, ambiguously hinting the FE did have a bite or two...

It's a nice little story: definitely something a bit different, and I enjoyed reading it (reread recently!). It features in at least one other collection, which was where I'd revisited it.
