What if they did a HH TV show

Throne i hope the HH never becomes a show....

I highly doubt it seeing as how they can barely keep the novel series going as it is...

To me no one could play Sanguinius, no one.... and anyone who would try would fail to meet the expectation in my head.

These characters are larger than life and can only be fully realised through imagination, not on TV

I am inclined to agree. I also dont think a live action show would be feasible, imo it would have to be fully CGI.

And again, it comes down to the fact that i dont think some joe blow design studio, who may have no prior knowledge of the universe, could get the essence of the HH. The makers would have to have a pre existing love for the universe imo.

I'd prefer a series that focused on the humans in 30K, with anything Transhuman being something that the camera rarely fixes upon. Let's face it, I want to see characters like Captain Lotara Sarrin. How she kept that ship together for as long as she did with those lunatics aboard is anyone's guess...

Having recently listened to Butcher's Nails, I'm inclined to agree. Marcus Valerius of the Therion Cohort. A gene-wright working under professor Grabiya in the Astartes project. One of the Sigillite's human operatives. These I'd want to see, hear, and read about, more than the Legios. These made the crusade, and would carry well to the screen. See BCK's (last?) entry in Turpe Et Dicere for excellent marine-less Age of Darkness fiction.

After reading the game of throne and the walking dead comic I thought they couldn't pull off a TV show, but the game of throne has meet all my expectation and exceeded them in place, Arya was perfectly cast, Ned stark was how I picture him. So with the right design studio and directors I can see the HH being an epic show that has a wealth of material. Full CGI wouldn't be needed as almost the entire cast would be the same shape, size except for the odd human and the Primarchs. The only thing I can see that would stop mass TV appeal is the lack of female and dare I say it nudity.

Anyway I think Mortarion could be portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal TV show). He can play dark and moody very well and he has the eyes for it when his face is covered.

For me it's the sheer scale of the heresy that would make it near impossible to pull off. And considering the general population would have no knowledge of anything happening, it would be very difficult to follow for many people.

Plus they would have to somehow include all of the audio dramas and short stories. I think there is just way to much to cover

It doesn't matter if they could pull it off, this is what I meant; it's just hypothetical.

And yet we have had one of these threads on this very subject every 6 - 12 months for the past 8 - 9 years ... the end result is always the same ...

I feel that 'hypothetical movie casting lists' hardly seem like a constructive thread topic, and add nothing to the forum but bickering

I know that me and Hyenas both wished the HH novels had played out this way. As soon as we started getting inside the heads of the primarchs is when that downhill landslide started.

I'm too tired to come up with a possible cast list right now, but Bill Nighy as Morty.

In that case, why not everyone come up with a Premise for a Show set in the 30k Universe? It can be about anything you deem worthy of attention - but not Xenos since Board Rules and all.

Jon Smyth is an archeologist serving with an expedition of the Emperor's Great Crusade when the galaxy is set ablaze by civil war. As brother turns upon brother and monsters of myth and legend are brought to life Jon struggles to find safe passage to his home, the human throne world of Terra. But with the Warmaster Horus bent on murdering his own father the Emperor will there be a home for Jon to return to.

He would make a good Dorn! That said, after watching Final Liberation's cutscenes along with the Ultramarine film, I think it'd be better if they made CGI films of the books. No worry of your 35-year old actor having to wait for fifteen years to do the next film that's supposed to be set just a year or two later because you don't want to make loads of poor quality films and rush them all at once.

I wouldn't mind as long as there'd be no awful acting choices (like the one suggested in the OP..sorry)

Anything 40k related I'd like to see

Daniel Day-Lewis

Michael Fassbender

Tom Hardy

Ed Harris

Eric Bana

Kevin McKidd

Mark Strong

etc

Actual good actors & thespians who take their craft incredibly seriously, who are capable of pulling off intense/brooding/charismatic roles

As opposed to womens favouries with boyish looks and a six pack- if a series or film were ever to be made, and it was apparent they'd gone for some sort of star power or sex appeal, I don't think I'd even watch

Infact, I also think Rory McCann, who plays Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane in Game of Thrones, would be a pretty awesome SM

I had some thoughts about this idea a while back and also had some thoughts of how it can be done (if at all!). Before I say anything, mind you that I am not as die hardcore "geek" of the universe. I like it for what it is in terms of gameplay and do want to read the novels, but I don't know all the characters in depth as many of ya'll do here, so please try not to judge my ideas and choices too hard, we're all friends here after all! msn-wink.gif

I would open the story at the point where the Emperor is about to promote Horus to the Warmaster and take it from there. Inbetween, we get introduced to the background and get a better understanding of who the Space Marines and Primarchs are, why they were there and did what they did. If the show is miraculously successful, it could be well extended to the point even after the Emperor's "passing" and to further explore the fates of remaining primarchs and their second in command characters. Also, I would carefully select some of the POV characters (in a similar way GoT is done) and do the stories based on that, and probably would avoid doing a primarch as a POV character if possible.

I heard some interesting idea on the proposed cast, so put some of them down as a sign that I agree with the choices and added a bit of my own stuff in there:

Horus - Mark Strong

Fulgrim - Harry Lloyd

Mortarion - Bill Nighy

Angron - Ralph Moeller

Khârn - Jason Momoa (proposed POV)

Kurze - Ciaran Hinds

Alpharius - Andrew Scott

Armyllus Dynat - Craig Parker (proposed POV)

Exodus - Anyone really, since I thought he should be wearing a helmet at all times. Just thought of having some cool sniper scenes with him in it.

Magnus - Arnold Vosloo

Leman Russ - Til Schweiger

Ferrus - Michael Shannon

Vulkan - Peter Mensah

Roboute - Kevin Mckidd

Perturabo - Karl Urban

Dorn - Stephen Lang

Loken - Liam Mcintyre (proposed POV)

Abaddon - Manu Bennett (proposed POV)

Erebus - Udo Kier

Lorgar - Mark Mikkelsen

Alexis Polux - Ray Stevenson (proposed POV)

Lion El Johnson - Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Challenges and problems:

Lack of female characters - need to come up with a decent female main character and a plot around her that can be tied to the events somehow.

Possible lack of character relationships - while it may have a lot of cool action scenes, it feels to me that this story would need a lot of well written dialogues, showing more relationships between the characters. Something that can give us decent food for thought. It needs to also take a walk away from the whole military perspective of the plot and show us more humanity as well. Maybe introduce some civilian characters on Terra and how they can potentially develop and play important part of the story, or even a minor one - still might be worth it to fill up some space.

Verdict: as much as I would love to see this being adapted for a good TV series, I feel like it is more likely to fail. It is an extremely hard project to do and for it to succeed it needs to be able to satisfy the majority of the audiences (mainstream), as the die-hard fans alone wont be enough to support it. Also, it will be too hard for it to please both the hardcore fans and the mainstream public, as die-hard fans will always be complaining and comparing it to the originals and etc, while mainstream public will get bored of it and find it rather empty if it was to be done fully treu to the lore. It's a tough one and if succeeds - it could be the next GoT sort of thing (or somewhere there at least!), while if fails.. well, just fails and never sees the resolution like many other cancelled TV shows (which I personally enjoyed by the way!).

So let me know what ya'll think of those ideas!

Neil degrasse Tyson as the emperor

Lol that would be way too ironic. Though Bill Nye would make a good Malcador :P

I think Charles Dance would've made a good Dorn ;.(

Neil is the only man capable of creating the imperial truth!

And bill.... I guess he sort of is Neil's sidekick

Here's an episode you could do pinched some bits quite obviously from angel exterminatus and titanicus: so we focus on an old man in his toyshop, this guy he makes model clockwork titans, basically the world he is on gets the snot kicked out of it by the IW but the guy keeps going even amongst all the chaos etc then perturabo wanders into his shop as you do, picks up a model warhound titan, has a chat with the old guy about craftsmanship, just for some poignant bit then he leaves and the world gets flattened. Shoot forward a little in time to a warhound being built on a desk surrounded by pertys drawings and in the background you hear the words "look closer"
