Wasn't there an Aliens game a while back, lots of hype, lots of nice screens and leaked footage? Turned out to be utter pigswill when it was released?

Yeah.

I'll believe it when it's released and the reviews are in. Until then, it's merely pretty pictures and no substance.

And before anyone jumps on me here, it isn't the only example I could give you. Even large companies like Creative Assembly will sell you a beta and then "fix" it with lots of patches.

So yeah.

You could always not be a huge pessimist, but that's your choice.

Personally I find these screens very exciting, so I am hopeful. I'm not an idiot though, I'm not going to rush out to pre-order.

That game suffered from being released straight from early beta stage. So unless the publisher is a huge knob like the other one, no.

We will not talk about the absolute piece of unfinished garbage that was Aliens: Colonial Marines that wasn't actually developed by 2kGames like they were contracted to but by a smaller, less reputable studio that they signed on on the side.

And, if their Previous games (Studio making Martyr) are any indication, they're at least going to put some effort into making the game.

..unlike some other studios that make Yearly, Multimillion Dollar Franchise games that are buggy, unplayable scrap on launch.

3rd image in the post on BOLS Showing off the Screenshot (Below for accessibility), the Third one shows a bit of the UI and the controls are Mouse & Keyboard. Judging by the studios past projects, its more likely than not going to be an ARPG (Diablo Style) vs Twin-Stick.

Be Forewarned the images are quite large.

I'm with Heinrich. I don't understand why Marvel can be one of the most profitable universes ever to hit the silver screen, but Warhammer is relegated to second rate developers. Games Workshop must be unable to pitch it's IP to outside developers.

I'd love to see the dynamic of human colonies meeting Space Marines, seeing how far removed from their humanity they once had and the humans wondering why it must be that way. Have a movie about a family who's son is chosen to leave them and become an Astartes, and what the process looks like. Also the "relationship" that the Founding Chapters have with the Traitor Legions, with large scale engagements focusing on key characters like Captains, Librarians, Chaos Lords and Sorcerers.

So much could be done with Warhammer 40k on the big screen that could make Marvel and DC look entirely insignificant in the scope of the enormity, harshness, and never ending meat grinder that is the 40k universe.

Why a console release? PC is far better for RPG type games because of the mod potential.

Mods are currently being blocked by Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo cause of something called quality controll which they lose when mods become available, that being said. The next Fallout game might change that as its been anounced they been working on a way to introduce mods to the consoles.

Never ever trust pre-Alpha footage of anything for any reason.

The screenshots shown here are just the demo level from GamesCom, so that IS how it looks. And at least that level had no noticeable bugs, probably an advantage when just modding the previous game.

Still pre-alpha, really only good for reminding us that the game exists. Anything and everything can be changed from a pre-alpha state.

Where's the fun in that?

Besides, if the game sucks I can be smug about it, and if it's amazing I get to be pleasantly surprised.

No what? No it won't be bad? No it won't be released until it's finished? No it won't suffer from creative and artistic genius like that which brought us the ME3 ending?

Heck, the list of developers that released unfinished games is long enough to be a warning.

I can't recall seeing a horizontal Iron Halo design before.  Neat.

The artistic style certainly seems in step with the source material.  Although one big problem with being too faithful to that is level design.  Gothic architecture can get very repetitive very quickly, and it gets dull walking through what looks like the same level over and over again.  Space Marine had a bit of trouble in that regard.  Diablo and its clones tend to have trouble there, too.

Still, one doesn't have to be too clever to overcome that problem.  It's more a question of time and money than anything.

Love the Helbrute footage at 18:00

I agree, that was an interestingly looking Helbrute. I think that the livery was black/dark green for the plate and silver/metal for the trim. I am curious which traitor legion they will feature.

I am curious about this game. I am not that much of a Diablo fan, though I have played it a lot, but anything 40k that is not a mobile game, intrigues me. I hope that the developers keep in mind the "classic" character options from Inquistior and the FFG RP games so I can play with a Tech-Priest or Psyker inquisitor, that would be fun.
