I will try to get some close ups tonight. The lenses are pretty basic. Based white and then painted with transparent blue from vallejo paints. I use the same technique for all lenses and plasma guns and it looks great while being very simple to do.

Looks great so far!

Have you looked into making/buying a lightbox?  A lot of your details are obscured by shadows... and if you use a flash to cancel that out you will wash out your details.

I built a cheap little floor/3 wall tray to photograph inside.  Built it out of posterboard, cost me like $3 for a sheet.

Yeah I will definitely have to do something. Although I rate its mostly down to me taking the pics late at night as I never tend to see daylight outside of work haha. Ive got a professional photo set at work but since the flash kits are so high, im sure they wont pick out the detail well either.

This is my setup - the trick is to get the lighting correct. I use 2 cheap clip on lights and an overhead lamp to reduce the shadows. The blocks of wood are just to stop the clip on lamps from falling over.

I think they look ok and have some effective weathering but we really need better photos :(

I can see the lights and weathering ok along with the transfers so the Chimera looks good, bit hard to see the detail on the infantry. Taking good pictures is greatly improved by having a decent camera of course but there is much you can do to improve them if you have the time :) Give it a go on getting us some closer shots on the troopers :tu:

Decently filthy "I been on this hellhole chasing shadows through the wastes for way too fraggin' long" paint scheme....I'm not thrilled with the shiny decals, you should either clearcoat (matte) the whole model, or use a small/fine brush to paint the color of the hull over the "clear" parts of the decal to kill the shine.  You also need to base your infantry, lol... I liked your work a lot less before I saw the bases for the heavy weapons teams...that provided context for the color palate.

Thanks mate. Yeah the clear coat is coming on this weekend when I have time. I use matt varnish for that, but the decal still shine a bit under bright light. As for the infantry they are all mostly based, just need a bit more work on them. Should be up maybe tomorrow.

Another take on a desert themed army and looking good thumbsup.gif

Unfortunately decal shine can be a bit of a pain and as already stated, the use of matt varnish and base colour gap filling are 2 ways to disguise it. You may also want to consider weathering over the decal to help them blend in. Paint chips and rust/mud effects will help to break up the decal area.

Thank you :)
As for whats next, I'm not sure.
My painting alternates between my guard, tyranids, grey knights, black templars and fantasy beastmen.
Next I believe I have some gaunts to finish before moving onto 5 grey knights and then 5 mk 3 marines.
