ACT I: Rebirth

"A shadow shall fall over the Universe, and Evil will grow in its path. And Death will come from the skies."

-Loknar Rouse, Death-Speaker of the XIVth Legion

Malagar Vex toyed with the pendant hanging over his warplate, as was his wont during times of inactivity. he did not understand the mission. There were no fortifications, no armies. there was nothing. Why has the Reaper sent us to this dead world? he wondered. there was no life here. not even bacterium traces as other planets had. it was a rock, nothing more.

He realised he was still toying with his amulet. A simple thing really, a bronze disk with the crossed scythes of Mortarion on it. He was the only Terran born of his legion that received this mark. All the others were dealt with on Istvaan. it was as Mortarion had planned. Cull the weak from the strong. Only Garro escaped, only Garro fled. that weakness was all the proof Malagar needed. Garro would be dealt with in time, the Reaper had sworn to that.

His thoughts were interrupted by the approach of Seth to his left. Seth, the Shadow, the Vigilator. he approached with the casual swagger only a killer of his calibre could.

"my Lord" he pointed to the sky.

Malagar's eyes narrowed. How Had he not noticed that comet. glowing green like the moss in the caverns of Sigma-7. Turning to his host, he noticed the tension at this omen. they were assembled on a barren rocky plain below a solitary mountain that looked more like a pile of offal than a solid rock formation.

thrusting his battle axe, Malignus, to the sky sky he bellowed a warcry. it was returned, thousand fold.

"Men of Barbarus" he began, "we are here at the command of the Reaper of Worlds, mortarion. we wi-"

The comet slammed into the mountain top with the force of a Battle Barge. the sound was deafening. Everyone was knocked from their feet. the dust cleared, a thousand plus warriors rose to their feet. tension was replaced by disbelief. what the hell had happend.

then Malagar saw it. the mountaintop had been blown asunder. in it's place was a massive creature, more hideous than anything he had seen in his life.

bulbous in appearance, it was a writhing mass of fat, sore and other foulness a pair of great horns crowned it's head above a single great eye. opening the maw that had to serve as it's mouth, it let loose a torrent of bile, entrails and filth. The insects came first. flies, locusts and other monstrosities pumelled their armour like bolt rounds, sending them reeling. Then the quagmire of filth hit. rushing like a flood of decay, splashing forth like bloated, diseased hands.

the slime over took them. Covering them. Consuming them.

inside the Miasma of disease, Malagars head was slpitting asunder. a million whispers spoke a million blasphemies. only one word was perceivable. Death.

He rose from the diseased lake that had replaced the plain of stone. He was different. Changed. He was corruption. He was death. He scanned his army with the glowing green orbs that were once his eyes.

His first word was barely a whisper. "Death" he rasped

"Death" he howled, hefting Malignus to the sky.

"DEATH TO ALL WHO OPPOSE US!"

Greetings, awesome Nerds!

so, I have not forgotten my 30k dreams. I just needed to be sure I had settled on a legion. the journey led me back to the Death Guard.

this force is inspire by a quick comment from Hyennidae (1000heathens), about a rapid strike, Death Guard assault force. so here it is.

I am going against the norm with this force. for the legion and for me. I had always envisioned myself wit a mighty siege force. or trench warfare. and while there will be some of that, the main focus will be lightning raids and fast assaults. the force is set somewhere between the Istvann atrocities and the siege of Terra. this is about the point where the "gifts" of Nurgle would begin to manifest, I reckon.

this is my version of the gifting. and the resultant fallout of the gift.

this will also be a slow project, as the only things HH related I have are five MKIII legionaires.

Death to the false Emperor.

Ave Mortarion,

bloodbath.

there are some little gems of inspiration hidden in here.......can anyone pick them out. you'll win the internet!

Hehe.. yes... they came to me the moment I saw the first mention of the XIVth Legion :D  Every comment after that was gravy ;)

I remember some of the thread comments regarding making an assault based Death Guard legion, going against the norm and typical mainstream fluff of footsloggers.  The idea to do an assault based force definitely has fun and unique written all over it.  If you can't afford all of the needed jump packs, try converting some 'oil' drums as single jet jump packs with some cabling for added gribblies.  If you magnetise the backpacks, you can easily adapt the force to foot based / transport oriented later on if needs be.

I shall look forward to this legion log, I forsee you receiving many likes and plenty of comments! GL

OK, i'll let the cat out of the bag. the beginning quote , thats the first little monologue from the animated movie; Heavy Metal. the real one, not the artistic abortion they tried to force feed us in the year 2000. even the chaplain (deathspeaker) quoted is named Loknar.......

oh and I urge you to watch the movie and pay attention to the last story in particular. it will all make sense.

my army will be less about the bloated entrail dripping death guard. this will be more of a "corruption within" thing with the "gifts" progressing  as the force goes on.

Death to the False Emperor

Ave Mortarion,

bloodbath

Brother, welcome back to the heresy. I too have found that the XIVth are a perfect fit for me, although I'm building a more traditional force for the time being shock infantry spearheaded by TDA troops. I have had the idea for a breacher assault squad combo that I want to explore as my force grows though, as well as outriders for fast attack. The corruption within was also how I planned to work my background to, it feels right for the Death Guard and their chaos benefactor.

I look forward to seeing this grow. For the reaper brother.

The XIVth will not last under the furious Assault of the Vth

Oh, muthacensored.gif it's on!

heh, I had considered the Vth for a while. but then I remember "the right hand of death" i know you haven't forgotten that. you'll be back to the plague.....search your heart, you know this to be true.

or, we'll just vomit our heresy into your very souls, and we will see if your carrion lord protects.

you know, sometimes you have a semi-clear vision in your head about a project. it's all good, right?

wrong......

sometimes you see a miniature that just screams "here I am, do something with me!" Then the ideas come flooding in like a pack of termigaunts. so here I am again. changing. always changing.

A miniature has called. beckoning me.  and the call is for the Unification Era.

Now I just need to order this model, and start plugging away at this madness that has taken my brain hostage.

anyone have any MKII stuff they wanna get rid of?

just kidding.

maybe

no, i'm not!

Aw yes, the call of the raptor. When I saw that web special centurion on Forgeworld's website with that awesome power fists, my first thought was........he must be painted grey with a yellow arm. I must do this. I must.

So naturally this led to the idea of a Unification era army. Which is what I'm going to do. Now I just need to get my broken hands on some(a lot) mkII ARMOR.

Shame to see you leave the Death Guard so quickly brother, but that is a nice scheme.

Oh it wont be a permanent leaving, but my brain is screaming Unification.

What about that imperial fist schemes, but a red arm instead of yellow, Dusk Raiders!

Imperial Fists superior. Dusk Raiders inferior.

yeah, I'm just not a fan of the dusk raider scheme for some reason that I can't out my finger on! maybe some cameo from other Unification Legions will be in it. I will be running a generic army list for the Uni guys. my way of representing an army that has not developed it's warfare foot print yet.

Yeah that's a good idea, no legion RoW or specific units. Or, just spitballing, use Pride of the Legion, and vets to have a late unification war strike team, the first inductees, finishing off the Terran war and looking to the stars!

that is EXACTLY what I was thinking. Then when I do my later IF legion. all my Terran veterans will wear the original Legio colors as a matter of pride.

The good thing about a pride of the legion force is that it's a small model force that can built quickly, which can then easily be adapted into a,larger force if you want. It's going to the initial basis of my XIVth Legion, only I going down the TDA route.

I know you see a Mark II force, but if your up for a littl converting you could add some extra armour plates to show the development of Mark III.
