The panels of some Warptalons, methinks.

Warptalons would need something extra flashy to set them apart from the raptors. Would link them to the peacock lord/sorcerer I have, too :tu:

 

As for the Dark Talon, I’m working on the red on the wings and have the body ready for spraying green. And the base is coming together. Should have it all done by the end of the month.

WIP (just lenses and decals to do) of the techmarine pilot of my Dark Talon.

I’m doing the helmet and left shoulder/arm of specialists (lib, tech, chap) in their respective colour...but didn’t want to put the Mentor eagle head on his right shoulder facing backwards so decided to do his right shoulder as the ‘Mars’ one. Will add ‘MARS’ decal from Knight kit.

So glad I'm not the only one re: arm colour... I went to build my first Techmarine for a sponson bolter, but didn't want him to be RED opposed to the army black; so I remembered the brassards we Canucks tend to wear on our left arms and decided to highlight the helmet and single arm. The army blend/ spec highlight is making me quite happy.

I put a comms set with whip antenna on one side and the searchlight on the other side of the turret.

The front plate and doors will likely be replaced with the FWRaptors-set (once I’ve taken a press mound of them for future vehicles as the set is OOP).

The hatch the front scanner is on...

The Dark Talon has been held up by bad weather: the next step to do is add weathering powder - or ground up artist’s pastel actually, for ‘Mars Dust’ - which needs sealing with sprayed-on matt varnish. Which rain prevented.

Hopefully I can get that done tonight, then there are just lenses, the canopy to go on and that’s it!

 

In the mean time I’ve been working on the tactical squad.

 

And should have everything else ready for the ETL. Hopefully I can finish the Talon and Tacs before the ETL starts.

If revarnishing in good conditions doesn’t help then I’ll just repaint the bloody green by hand.

* One squad of scouts (combimelta, 4x bolt pistol and knife) - 74 pts

* One squad of scouts (storm bolter, heavy bolter, 3x bolter) - 67 pts

* One squad of scouts (storm bolter, 4x bolter) - 57 pts

* One squad of sternguard (combi plasma x2, 2x special issue bolter, 1x heavy flamer) - 131 pts

* One razorback (twin lascannon, hunter killer missile) - 126 pts

* One captain (power fist) - 89 pts

* One captain (relic blade, plasma pistol) - 102pts

...from Codex: Space Marines of total value 872 points on or before August 1st, 2018. Success will bring eternal glory to the Mentor Legion and failure will doom me to bear the Badge of the Oathbreaker until the year-end.

If I get all that done fast enough (weather and sprays willing) then I might turn my 1kSons thunderfire into a Mentor Legion one.

I’ll spray the TDA and scouts tomorrow (I pinned them on a ‘to be white’ stick and a few ‘to be green’ sticks). I’ll do the Razorback, captains and Sternguard in another spray session.

18 decals across the 5 assault TDA. After matting them I’ll be weathering the white.

RT-era veteran sergeant marking (originally a DA one but I cut out the chapter icon...a little roughly as it seems I left some red at the top of one point. Weathering will take care of that).

With this squad my 2nd of TDA in the army I gave the sergeant a II on his shoulder (and went back and gave the sergeant of the other a I). And script on his vambrace - a blessing on his hammer, no doubt.

Trying to add script and the odd honour and/or campaign decal to each as TDA back in the RT days was covered in markings and art to show how ancient and venerated it was.

I use these decals for tiny text on my Mentor Legion:

Then - while picking up another of the Japan-only Space Marine Heroes (got the auspex one :tu: ) I saw another couple of decal sheets by the same maker. One was this:

...with lots of useful ‘Caution’ and ’Warning’s and the like. You see the three larger blocks of text bottom-middle? I had to magnify them but could just make out the text...

TDA bases are decalled and weathered...

...and have legs attached...

...next is adding Mars dust to both.

After that I just need to airbrush the weapons and the squad is done.
