I've been working on the hobby but not my own crusade ... trying to help a friend by painting up some of his unused models so that our 3rd friend who can't afford an army has something to use.

The Gradarius Crusade did pick up a couple of new neophytes though ... (painting faces is hard :censored: ).

Sorry for the potato quality photo ... I eventually want to work on a photo booth setup.

Just wanted to show my brothers on here that my crusade continues on

Got a shipment of base adapters to turn my 25mm bases to 32mm. Really like them a lot.

My bases have been just a placeholder for when I get around to tackling some casting/resin. I just figured some sand and rocks was better than plain black. This turned out to be a real advantage when using the base adapters since I simply glued them on, filled a little bit of the gap, and then glued some more sand on it.

Also I've started on 2 more neophytes ... ugh faces ... I'm pretty happy with my progress on the neophyte on the right. Geordi on the left has something weird going on with his mouth area, I'll have to work on that.

I think he's frothing. That's a good thing, you want that to happen in your crusade.

Hobby progress has been slow.  Multiple reasons (work, family, X Wing, and now 30k).  My local 40k group is friendly enough but the 30k guys were more actively engaging and because of that, large heaps of coal have been thrown on my desire to make a 30k army.

I decided on the Imperial Fists for obvious reasons.  For items that could be useful for my 40k Templar also I plan on painting them in a predominantly black scheme so that I can get more bang for my buck and value from my precious hobby time.

For the Black Templars I haven't done anything other than finish those 2 neophytes and also the honour guard champion I did for the Chaos at the Gates challenge.

Here is my first attempt at our founding chapter

Still experimenting here.  I used 3 shades of Vallejo Game Air yellow (even though to me you can't really tell :sad.: ).

Gonna experiment some more ...

One suggestion was to add a bit of brown to my darkest yellow that I spray from below.

Another suggestion was to use some agrax earthshade.

The last suggestion I got was to gloss coat it and do a burnt umber oil wash.

Crusade Progress! OMG!

Working on a predator/rhino/razorback (magnets)

First time using an airbrush to highlight (this is only my 2nd rhino chassis ever and 3rd vehicle ever)

Really nice inscriptions on your initiates! how did you do it so neatly?

Thanks ... I do a combination of brush squiggles and micron pen squiggles

Don't forget templar brethren in your 30k army!

Of course!

Looks alright by me.

Thanks!

Finished this predator ... don't know what else I'll be doing for the crusade in the near future because I'm currently trying to work on my Imperial Fists Legion.

Glad to see the interior has been painted.  The downside is that the interior should be full of the turret base, motors and generators, but GW haven't got around to those !

Nice clean paintwork - love this.

Very, very neat looking tank. The final effect is great (I really should get an airbrush, but I won't). The lights and glowing 'laser coils' of the lascannons turned out particularly good, I suppose.

Been away a long time but 8th edition has called me back to the crusade!

Recently finished a Razorback with lascannon and assault cannon options

Also finished a Land Speeder tempest that has been magnetized so that I can use it as a Land Speeder with Typhoon missiles and also magnetized mounts to put on other weapon options (once I get them painted up)

Anyway enjoy the pics

Played in another learning game with my group last night.  2 v 1.  1800 points each side.  900 points of Black Templar have allied with 900 points of Sisters of Battle versus 1800 points of Dark Angels (suspected of being traitors? lol)

This was my small group of Templars.  (My options are limited by what I have fully painted, my group tries to only play fully painted to encourage hobby)

Chaplain (counts as Grimaldus)

Emperor's Champion

Dreadnought with multimelta and DCCW

5 man Assault squad with 2 flamers

5 man Crusader with power fist, power axe, plasma gun

I'm really hoping GW clarifies in a FAQ whether we can pick just 1 die to re-roll or if we have to re-roll both.

I failed two 9" charges and we played by re-rolling both (which I also failed).

The dreadnought got to fire his MM once (he missed) before getting toasted by a devastator squad.

The Razorback with assault cannon but the hurt on some bikers and killed 2 of the devastator squad before getting smoked by a Dark Talon.

Grimaldus and his squad got proper stuck in with some DA and one of their Chaplains ... wish Grimaldus had the same ability as Asmodai.  Auto +1 attack is much better than exploding 6s.

The EC was putting a good smack down on the Dark Shroud (he couldn't really get stuck in with the other DA characters who were too fast).

The Razorback with lascannon took out a half damaged vindicator laser destroyer.

The Assault squad did a deep strike behind the devastators ... needed to make the charge to tie them up ... failed ... then got shot and smacked up by a DA squad, their rhino, and a chaplain.  Surprisingly they didn't die, I ran away tactically re-positioned in the next turn (forgot they could still shoot because of fly).  Positioned the remaining guys to be a distraction to the DA back there but never was able to slow down the devastators which was my plan with them.

Here's two shots of the game ... was too busy playing to take more lol.

BTW ... Celestine is SCARY

As for hobby progress ... did some work on a ZM board I'm doing for my FLGS, put in some work on a custom Helbrecht, finished pieces to make my predator switch into a razorback, and put in some work on my first LRC.

Amazing work on the hurricane bolter shields! Is the cross a stencil or did you tape it? Either way, really nice.

Edit: I would look at the 're-rolls' note in the core rule book. Everyone I've spoken to in my gaming group reads it as being able to roll one or two of the dice.

Thanks for the compliment on the cross. It's made from cut up tamiya masking tape.

As for the re-roll ... my small group didn't all agree so I went with the most conservative interpretation.

Maybe GW will release a FAQ with the codex release ... but I won't be surprised if they don't mention the re-roll issue at all lol

I have a question.

How do you make such nice word's? is it airbrush or some sticker?. And next one about purity seals. How do you make "words" on them.

And the final one.... . Those beautifull crosses on the rhino. are they painted free hand or some sort of template?

Which words?

Most of my "Templar" words that you can read are done by light pencil followed by either paint or micron pen.  The "Black Templar" in white on the land speeder is a decal.

The "words" on purity seals are a mix of squiggly paint lines or squiggly lines with micron pen.  It takes practice, I have been away from Templars for a while and found that when I started again my squiggly lines were not as good as before.

The crosses on the rhinos ... most are decals. The newest red ones on the land raider sponson shields are done by tape + airbrush.

Thanks for the compliments

This is the right picture ... started on the edge highlighting ... gluing the tracks on was kind of a pain.

Still thinking about decal placement ... hope to have this thing finished by next week.
